Dave's voice sounds incredible. The live version from the Devotional Tour sounds just a incredible as this. One of Depeche's greatest albums. I listen to this entire album on vinyl all the time.

1993 Memories! This was the only cassette tape I had with me during Airborne school before I shipped off to Berlin. Listened to it until it fell apart. Awesome!

DM are my favourite band. I've always loved the ways they evolved with each album. This track is the centrepiece of this magnificent album in my opinion. The three albums Music for the Masses, Violator and SOFAD were DM at their peak. Such a shame so many people still think of DM as a new romantic early 80s pop group. They are one of the best British bands of all time. 😁👍
This is the best version. It starts out as one song then explodes into something all together different. Damn, it's just so great! Get in a car, put this on, find a nice long stretch of highway and drive.!

They had this thing about sending out a so called CD of the month unless you requested not to receive it. Well it turned out this Depeche Mode album was one of the CD's of the month back in 93. It was set to me before I could cancel it. At the time I knew little about DP and wasn't interested in receiving it. The month past and I had forgotten to cancel the CD. The thing laid in my room for months unopened in its cellophane wrapper. I only got around to it because I was bored as f*uk one day and figured what the heck let's give it a listen. Well needless to say I've been a big Depeche Mode fan ever since. Keep up the good work.

I'm not sure where you got that as the main expressed meaning of the track, but am glad it resonated with you in a close and special way with your life. However, the band together and separately, as well as the video, have repeatedly talked about it being about BDSM from the submissive's point of view being of their dominant/owner.(Martin, the writer from this era whose songs mainly focus on sex and BDSM, is a much-personally-open submissive both in the bedroom and in relationships, both romantic and personally-close)

This song, as is par for the course when it comes to DM, was genius. After Violator, DM became so rich and famous that they took a few months off. (13 month World Tour, I know right? God forbid.) Dave Gahan returned to record this albumn all grunge and rumour has it, he was basically strung out on heroine. I truly doubt I'll be sued for liable. First, this is historically documented and second, just listen to this albumn. Martin Gore wrote the album.. while trying to get his best mate back on track. I'd never pretend for a moment I'd be able to Walk in Dave Gahan's shoes... for instance. 😜

The entire album has a dark vibe. Thats what makes it so great. This album and tour almost killed them.
