Check your oil cooler they always leak. It will run down the top of the bell housing if its bad enough. Jeeps make me alot of money 🤑👩🏻🔧 love the content.
No wonder your making money off of them. Jeeps are complete junk. I saw a video of one, I can’t remember what model, that had plastic throttle body, plastic intake, plastic valve covers, and a plastic oil pan. There’s way too much plastic in those engines.
It’s not difficult to replace but it’s a daunting task. If you see oil dripping between the inspection holes of the trans it’s 90% the oil cooler or someone left oil in the valley of the v6 when you accelerate it will slosh back and look very similar to a bad rear main seal

Yes ive just done this job on my grand caravan. Easy enough except for trying to get all the oil out the valley after removing the housing. That took me longer than actually replacing the part
Two things not mentioned in this video, make sure you replace the o-ring on the oil filter cap, and don’t check your dipstick the first time you take it out, pull it out, wipe it clean, put the dipstick back in then pull it back out for an accurate reading
13mm fits but technically it is supposed to b 1/2in. American vehicle, American sizes. 13mm tends to strip those plugs. Whenever I do these I swap the plug for a 16mm head with the same thread/gasket so they don't strip.
Really? I honestly assumed it was supposed to be SAE because of how often those garbage plugs strip with a 13. Poorly designed like the rest of the vehicle I suppose 🤣

Always be sure to not over tighten the oil filter housing cap when reinstalling it. The plastic housing is usually brittle from heating and cooling cycles and crack very easily leaving you with a oil leak and a days worth of work to replace the oil cooler 😂
A good investment would be a torque wrench think the oil filter housing might be 25Nm or wherever in Imperial it may say on the housing 🤔 You can also torque the sump plug correctly too 😉
Only thing i’d add, if your doing it on a different vehicle with the filter mounted on the bottom, Make sure you pour oil into it and on the lip before install.
Lol pay attention to the socket he used to tighten the drain bolt... its not the 1/2 he used to take it off.... he probably switched to the right size because it was rounding off when he tightened it....
Yea honestly you save so much more money when you do it yourself plus you don’t have to worry about someone rounding out your drain bolt or stripping the threads😭
I would recommend getting a torque wrench and look up the torque specs for the drain plug. I work in an oil change shop and I can’t tell you how many people do their own oil change and then overtorque the drain plug and blow the threads out. For your keep it should be 20 or 25 ft pounds but that’s just my recommendation.
I use to work at a oil shop and I recommend not to go to one these days since their expensive and they at times will scam you and on the other hand the people working downstairs may use power tools for your drain plug so please try not to take your vehicle there too often
I usually drive my car really hard until the head gasket blows up. Now the only thing to do is replace it, replace the oil filter and put oil. Really useful!
Just make sure to always replace the O-ring on those types of oil filters and lube it before installing it to prevent O-ring failure, also always start the engine after putting the oil in and then turn off the engine let it sit for about a minute and then check the oil level. Otherwise great video. Also don’t forget to replace the crush washer on the drain plug if your car has one to prevent leaks, this car doesn’t it uses a rubber seal but still always replace the crush washer when needed. One last important tip always run the correct oil for your engine to prevent long term damage.
It depends on the engine. The first two cars I owned were Malibus. First one was a V6 with the filter in the metal housing. Second was an Ecotec engine with the filter just like in the video. Really blew my mind when I went to get a new filter and when I looked at it, it wasn't in a can!
Crustier 3.6 liter pay attention to oil leaks around the transmission that oil filter and oil cooler housing are just plastic over time they crack and cause a huge oil leak the requires a fair amount of work to fix. Also never forget to lube that o ring in the filter housing you can just use old oil or new works too if your bougie like that.
I recommend taking a trip down to your local autoparts and pick up a honda pilot or odyssey oil drain plug/bolt Same thread pitch but you can use a 17mm instead of 13mm i was a lube tech 4 years
with cartridge style oil filters you ALWAYS unscrew the filter housing before the sump plug so it lets the oil drain down into the oilpan or youll be left with half a quart of dirty oil if you dont believe me leave the sump plug off and crack the filter loose 👍
After the oil change, run the engine for five minutes. Then check for leaks. Then check the oil level again-that’s after about five to ten minutes without the engine running.
Cutting down an empty 1-quart oil bottle also makes a good funnel and it will hold the quart you're pouring if you want to let it thoroughly drip empty.
No criticism, just curious because i've never had a vehicle with an inverted filter. Will it take a portion of the oil to fill it like a standard filter?
Check your oil AFTER you start the engine, the level will drop after you gain oil pressure and fill up the filter housing, etc. you will likely need to top it off
Quick tip you always wanna takeoff your oil cap first because if you can’t get it off the drain all the oil out you’re screwed has it happened once or twice not good
Try pressing the Unlock Button twice then lock then unlock again. The Jeep will do a light show for you, but remember that you’ll have to do this simultaneously. This only works with Dodge, Jeep, and RAM vehicles Plz try it and make a vid about it… I subscribed already
It’s actually a 13mm but a 1/2 works until it strips it out. Side note if you ever have a dodge/Chrysler and it’s not a 13 it’s most likely a 16mm or maybe even a 15mm because they use the same thread pattern as ford (and some Chevy)oil pans.

Hey so Ik this is late but I work in a Valvoline oil shop I just wanted to say don't go by your oil light there are set for anywhere between 3000 and 12000 miles with a full full synthetic you get 6000 miles your oil is just really dark and should mabey think about flushing out your engine with a oil cleaner
6 quarts is all you need for your Jeep and it's a 13mm drain plug. Get an 18ft-lb torque wrench and torque both the drain plug and your oil filter down with it. Be sure to change the gasket (the rubber band on the bottom of the cup) too and lube it with your hand with fresh oil.
Not bad, Try and get a HAYNES manual for every vehicle you own. They publish every vehicle in a detailed shop manual and provide all the OEM part numbers too. Very handy probably the best advice I could give to any young vehicle owner that will give you everything for like 40 bucks. Oh and always replace the crush washer on your drain bolt.
Good video but you need to start the vehicle and recheck the oil level again cuz it takes some oil to fill up the new oil filter or oil filter housing.

We have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma that has the oil filter on top of the engine. That makes maintenance a hell of a lot easier. It’s nice not having to climb under your truck to change the filter. It should be like that on every car.

That’s true but you wanna start the engine before so it pressurizes the filter and gives you an accurate reading.
Also lubricate the new o-ring with some oil before installing. Also replace the washer on the drain plug

Make sure you follow torque specs. 18-19 foot pounds for the filter, 20 for the oil pan drain plug.

Forgot to unscrew oil cap first. That oil cap vacuum prevents proper draining.
Drain plug is a 13mm, not a 1/2, and yes, overtime it makes a difference

no cars after 99 have standard bolts or nuts its all metric now and never use 12 point sockets bad things happen only use them on 12 point bolts

hey man, making the oil filter wet in the engine oil before fitting it in is recommended.
It’s a 13mm not half inch, make sure you also change gasket on filter cup and don’t over tight or else you’ll crack the housing

That's that Mercedes/ BMW oil filter housing type. Careful about torquing on it. It can crack.
Always remember to change the rubber piece on the oil filter and lube is too
2 things 1) don't forget to replace the oring on the filter lid. And 2) don't use a bud lite can, your jeep will run funny afterwards

I'd loosen the oil filter first then drain. By the time it's done draining the filter won't make such a mess
