- “The Hills: New Beginnings” is back for season 2 and this year it’s all about moving forward. Access Hollywood chatted with Heidi Pratt, Spencer Pratt, Audrina Patridge, and Justin Bobby about the upcoming season, and they revealed how it was like having Kristin Cavallari briefly return to the series. “She’s electric,” Spencer said. The cast also weighed in on why they don’t think Lauren Conrad will ever make a cameo in the show. Plus, Heidi talks about her stance on the #FreeBritney movement.

Lauren Conrad was the reason the hills was a cultural phenomenon at its time. That’s why this new show will never be as relevant as the original was because it’s missing it’s true star.

Lauren was an A-hole in many ways when she was on the show. She actively railed against Heidi's relationship with Spencer which was selfish and wrong. Love em or hate em, Heidi and Spencer are a true love couple that is standing the test of time. Lauren is a classic 'Karen' not necessarily in a racial way, but in a very entitled way.

They need to put some respect on Lauren Conrad's name. No one would've known who they were without The Hills. Lauren is the smart one!!! She made her money and got out right on time. She took her money and turned it into 40 million. She created a great life for herself and family. If I were her, I would leave it in the past. Production treated her horribly. She had said they locked her in the basement and wouldn't let her leave the day they filmed Heidi and Spencer's wedding.
Omg! Are you serious? So that whole interaction at the wedding and her attendance was more forced than we thought. I remember watching back then and her body language and face looked like she didn’t want to be there.
@@strawberriesncandii There are a few articles written about it. They locked her in a room with 2 security guards. I think production is one of the main reasons why Lauren left the show. It wasn't her life anymore. Audrina had brought up issues with production as well. I think production had taken her car keys and she had to call her lawyers.
@@strawberriesncandii I knew someone who did internship for MTV around 2007 and they said Production would ask Lauren about her plans. Then they would go and tell Heidi and spencer to create a scene. When Lauren and Heidi got into the “you know what you did” argument, production set it up. They also told Heidi and spencer about Lauren and jason going out to dinner at ketchup.
Production tried to force Lauren to kiss the Paris dude. They wanted her to date, that’s why they came up with the whole Brody thing, she only did it to shut up production because they would force her to kiss random guys.
I feel like the older I get the more like Justin Bobby I become and the more I appreciate his realness and not giving an f attitude. Teenage me never would've guessed that outcome. 😂
Lauren took advantage of her notoriety from the show to build her brand & business then gracefully exited when the time was right. Thinking back on it now she controlled how she was portrayed on the show as much as she could & ultimately it paid off for her in the end & now she doesn’t need the show for nostalgia purposes or otherwise. She really outsmarted them all.
You know what I don’t think Lauren “outsmarted” anyone because there was never a competition between them all to build their brand or become the most successful. Lauren has made wise decisions, is driven, and is extremely talented and not everyone has that.
This is so true. Spencer always claimed to be so strategic, acting like he was the only forward thinking one, bragging about how he was going to use the hills to build an empire. Surprise, surprise; turns out he was just an arrogant a$$ who has spent his life exploiting the fact that he was on a show years ago, and trying to stay relevant. Lauren, whitney, and Kristin are the only ones who actually built something sustainable out of being on that show.
Spencer and Heidi could've leveraged their fame and money like Lauren did to build her brand, but instead they spent their millions and partied hard. The only thing they have to show for that time is Heidi's album, and it did not do well, despite them spending 2 million dollars to make it. Now, Spencer is trying to make up for lost time and building his crystal business. I've watched him from the start, several years ago, packaging his own crystal orders to ship, sourcing the crystals himself, but now his business is so big that there isn't the personal touch or small business feel to it anymore. It's just all about making as much money as they can, for which I cannot blame them.

I remember when all of them went on a media tour, and did a bunch of interviews, essentially saying how fake the show was, how the majority of the storylines were contrived, how a lot of the drama was made up just to boost ratings, etc - it was basically a scripted show made to look like a “reality show”. The majority of the cast complained about the show once it ended, and basically said they wanted to move on to bigger and better things and start their own businesses. And I remember the infamous ending to the finale, when the final scene shows Brody standing on the street, the camera pans away, and it’s revealed that he’s actually standing on the Hollywood backlot, and that the trees, the Hollywood sign, etc - are all fake. To me, in my opinion, they all essentially came back for the paycheck. I think this pandemic really dried up a lot of people’s income - from celebrities to an average joe - and this pandemic revealed that many celebrities don’t really have a substantial amount of money, like how they portray. The majority of the cast mates on The Hills don’t have a lot going for themselves. With Lauren, she’s incredibly business savvy. She has so many streams of income, and various products and businesses, and I’m sure she’s very smart in investing her money. She doesn’t need the extra paycheck, and I admire her for not wanting to deal with the toxicity of the show. The season finale aired in 2010. Fast forward 11 years later, and they’re all basically at square one. Not many of them progressed or elevated since the show originally ended, especially when it came to their “brand”. It’s bizarre.

Which is fine, but at least just be transparent and say we all said it was fake but we are here to do a real reality show, or something to that effect where there is no coercing of producers, and show their real lives. Because honestly the story lines with the new beginnings show is just as cringe as the original. Also, my biggest problem with the new beginnings is they BARELY show Whitney, because she’s so unproblematic and keeps to her family. I would much rather watch her than Heidi Spencer and Stephanie drama or the on and off again Justin and Audrina crap. It’s just so old and not interesting lol

Both Kristin and Lauren are at place's in their careers where they don't need to do the show anymore. The difference is after Laguna Beach, Kristin created a character that was separate from who she actually was. That allowed her to have fun and take the situation for what it was. Lauren never did that. She was on the show as her actual self and the show effected her real life heavily. Kristin seems to have a sense of self separation from reality TV that Lauren didn't. In that sense, I definitely get why Lauren would be adamantly against returning.
