I'm currently fighting with HP about this and have threatened to take them to the Fair Trading authorities in Australia for misrepresenting the components that the machine ships with, its XMP capability, and upgradeability. I'll let you know how it goes.
@@HardwareSense I don't have Insta, but I'll give you the short story here. I have forced HP to supply me with 2 x 8gb RAM sticks (their HyperX part) to compensate me for the money I spent on parts (genuine Kinsgston HyperX that looks identical) that should have worked fine based on the specifications of the machine as advertised. They told me today that I'll receive them within the week. They have also promised to escalate my request for a bios update that properly enables XMP and support for non-HP issued RAM, though I'm not holding out much hope that they'll actually do this. If they don't do this within a reasonable timeframe, however, I will consider further steps.
Don't forget you cannot control the Case fan speeds either. The Omen software only controls the GPU fans and even MSI afterburner and fan control will not find your case fans since the Omen MB does not have RPM sensors on the fans.
@HardwareSense so now Hp has acquired hyper x fury, surely this should work now...www.kitguru.net/channel/generaltech/matthew-wilson/hp-acquiring-hyperx-from-kingston-in-425-million-deal/
Ryzen Master fixed this issue with me (32G upgrade @ 3200mHz) for anyone with AMD models. Another video taught me that u can't get ur speeds with Intel based models.
Thanks for the video and your posts across the HP forums HWSense! I was able to tighten timings on the stock hyper X ram that shipped with the 30L to 16-18-18-37 @ 1.35V 3200Mhz through Intel XTU. Ram Latency was the biggest disappointment with this prebuilt, but there is a fix! Ram latency 256 is down from 65ns to 54ns. Running stable!
How were you able to do it? Memory doesn't show up in Intel XTU for me, and I can't find a safe link to download the previous versions that people say they have used.
I used the procedure in this video by JDWTV; th-cam.com/video/5d0xWNXHFlI/w-d-xo.html After completing the procedure twice (which was weird, but it worked) it rolled back to the version of Xtu that allowed access to the memory timings window. There I manually added the timings and crossed my fingers. Good luck. Edit: in the comments of that video there is some discussion about it.
@@maximousf1756 Memory does show up in Omen Gaming Hub for me, the issue is that it says that 3200MHz is running there due to XMP, when it is in fact JEDEC with horrible latency. XMP doesn't seem to be enabled on the machine as far as I can tell. I just spent a whole week fighting with HP about this, and they seem to have listened - I'll let you know what the final outcome is. It took me threatening to take them to the Fair Trading authority here in Australia with a detailed case for false advertising and potentially anti-competitive behaviour.
@@YetMoreCupsOfTea oh yes, I am with you 100% on the ethics of the situation. It should have shipped with a motherboard BIOS configuration that gave us access to proper XMP, it didn’t. I grappled with this problem for some time after purchasing the 30L with 32Gb of ram in February 2021. The conclusion I came to was an acceptable resolution that enabled me to apply a 16-18-18-37 @ 1.35V 3200 Mhz memory profile through a rolled back version of Intel XTU. This profile IS a XMP profile on the identical memory shipped by HyperX with serial numbers that do not start with “HP”. This can be done. I recommend downloading CPUz and inspecting the memory tab. There you will see a series of memory profiles for the “HP” S.N. hyper x ram. one of which is the JEDEC profile you are currently stuck with. There are others, even an XMP profile that you cannot access through Omen Command Center. did you have a chance to look at the JDWTV video and my comments there? Edit: I wanted to add that; once you have Intel xtu rolled back and working, don’t touch omen command center. Intel xtu effectively replaces it at that point and if you continue to use it there may be conflict. Apply any overclocking and undervolting via Intel xtu. Good luck.
To clarify, my problem was the very poor memory timings of the RAM that shipped with the PC, I have not tried replacing it with new ram. I don't know if you'd be able to use the rolled back Intel XTU to set the memory speed of other RAM kits to 3200Mhz. What I did was change the memory timings on the stock ram from 22-22-22-52 @ 3200Mhz to 16-18-18-37 @3200Mhz. In benchmarks this led to a marked improvement (decrease) in RAM Latency.

No, you should be absolutely fine, as long as you initially configure it with the amount you want. The issue is only if you want to use your own memory later or buy an aftermarket memory to replace the stock one.
@@Eric-vn9sm Correct, you can, but you will either default on the stock memory speeds, or have to do the manual adjustment that I have in the video and description.

What can I do? Thank you very much for your time!
There should be only one simple option in the XTU for memory on the left side, when you select it you will see the XMP enable and disable option on the right side
@@HardwareSense I guess I must be doing something wrong, because I'm uncapable to see the enable option. Just "Default" and "Custom" options. Thank you for your kind answer!
I understand this is an older video and also the whole point of buying a pre-built is to have it fully customizable and ready to go at your fingertips, but couldn't you bypass this by changing the motherboard and just having an msi or asus BIOS instead of HP?
If you would have went with a Ryzen CPU you can use the ryzen master driver to adjust anything in your bios through their software. Intel requires you to do it through the bios itself

@@HardwareSense I have a 30L with 2 non RGB 8GB, Wanting to add 2 more 8gb RGB sticks. @@666Demonshaker No, you can't control them separately, if you install anything aftermarket, you will have to use Intel XTU, otherwise both will default to 2400mhz

My Omen however refuses to accept it. The pc gets stuck in a loop and it just reboots over and over and over again with no possibility to even enter Bios and a black screen. I've tried Slots 1&3 (same as original), then 2&4... then 1 stick at a time and nothing. It just does not work at all. The RGB does not turn on either on the new sticks when it reboots. When putting the old Ram back it just boots like normal again. Do you think it is possible to fix this?
The problem is HP is always very specific ram and finding a proper replacement is always a challenge. So what I did in the past is to try to get some HP ram from similar PCs off ebay or order different from Amazon and whichever one didn't work, I returned it.

They have also promised to escalate my request for a bios update that properly enables XMP and support for non-HP issued RAM, though I'm not holding out much hope that they'll actually do this. If they don't do this within a reasonable timeframe, however, I will consider further steps.
@@YetMoreCupsOfTea Yeah they not going to give us XMP, at least not in this generation
Don't forget you cannot control the Case fan speeds either. The Omen software only controls the GPU fans and even MSI afterburner and fan control will not find your case fans since the Omen MB does not have RPM sensors on the fans.
You can’t do it with the intel but with a amd use the Ryzen master

@@lachi3117 "how" what?
Any tips on the steps you take in the software to make this work? Thanks so much!
Completely agree I have a great HP prebuilt but why no xmp even a slider to keep it simple
Exactly!
I used the procedure in this video by JDWTV; th-cam.com/video/5d0xWNXHFlI/w-d-xo.html
After completing the procedure twice (which was weird, but it worked) it rolled back to the version of Xtu that allowed access to the memory timings window.
I've been looking at this on and off for a while, this greatly helps thank you!

@@666Demonshaker No, you can't control them separately, if you install anything aftermarket, you will have to use Intel XTU, otherwise both will default to 2400mhz
They have a new f20 bios update that now has aftermarket XMP ram compatabitly
Is the case ATX compatible? Buying a secondhand one of these for a great price and instead of dealing with the ram situation looks more reasonable to replace the motherboard and buy Corsair ram.
It's mini ATX
i really am having trouble understanding if i can upgrade to 32gb .. i have the 30L with the moria 3 motherboard. i have the 3700x version of the 30l
You can, but if you want to be able to control the RGB or easily enable higher frequencies, the memory has to be purchased from HP. Otherwise, you will have to use Ryzen Master on your own, to enable the XMP profile of the memory.
@@HardwareSense appreciate the response. Mother board replacements are always a option on these pics too right? Just gotta be careful with the size I'm guessing because of case?
@@Michaeljb Oh yes of course, that would be an easy change, just grab the same size board and it's a completely different computer
Hey Ivan! Good video, just gave it thumbs up!
I have an Omen 45L with 16GB DDR4 3733Ghz HyperX Ram and wanted to upgrade to 32 so after reading reviews on Amazon I purchased Kingston Fury Beast CL19 DDR4 3733Ghz Ram which should be the exact same and at least 5 reviews stated that this Ram worked perfectly fine with their Omen 45L.
Don't listen to computer manufacturers building you systems with 8,12, 16 Gigs of ram. And then pound you with video card speed or processor speed always have a good amount of ram start at 64. 5 years ago, I was looking for a build with 32 Gig of ram they say 16 Gig was more than enough to handle any task. 4 yrs. later the computer was lagging then it cannot handle multitasking. Necesito ayuda.

If I'm gaming at 4k, it looks like memory speed barely makes any difference, what would be good ram to put in it? 16gb more of hyperX? just get the closest HyperX that it comes with as far as brand and speed?
If you don't care about the memory speed, any ram should be good for you, 3200mhz will default to 2400mhz and 3600mhz will default to 2666mhz.

How could I improve the cooling in this? I purchased it last week and I don’t want heating to be a issue in the future
I don't think that overheating would be an issue, it really depend on what is your ambient temperature and level of stress on the machine. Mine is completely silent during gaming.

Yes you can upgrade the storage and the CPU without any problem. As for swapping the Nvme drive, you probably would be better to just do a fresh windows install and go with that, cloning will take longer and for a new fresh computer is not even worth it. Windows will pick up all the necessary drivers after that, all you need is to download HP OCC from the windows store and you should be fine. Just make sure to get a 30L with the max amount of memory that you can get or need, as upgrading it is a problem.
