- Hey guys here is the requested storage upgrade video and some more useful information on the HP Omen 30L, its super easy to add an SSD or HDD drive, all you would need is a Philips screwdriver, 4 hdd screws and 5-10 minutes of your time. Thats it!
Also check out the BIOS overview at the end, yes there is no XMP profiles!!!

as of July of 2022 the XMP profiles are know unlocked through the Omen comand center. You can overclock your cpu through there as well.

Thank you for uploading these videos, it's extremely helpful. I'm really considering this PC with the RTX 3070 config. due to the fact that the 30 series cards are so difficult to find on their own...you think it would be a good idea to go with 32Gb of Ram or is that overkill?

I ve the same pc, but in my case a first SSD is mounted on the first(upper) slot with the OS installed, plus a standard HDD for data storage. Now I wanted to add another and bigger SSD for gaming but the second slot(on the botton ) which is empty only has the pc cable (larger plug) and not the hdd (the smaller one). is it the same for you? would it be possible to mount anyway a second SSD?

@@cruten87 The FE version is 28.5 cm, the clearance is 29cm, so it will fit if you remove the GPU bracket.
HardwareSense thanks. It’s disappointing that only the FE and Evga versions fall within the 29cm range. Just makes it a bit more tricky to get hold of one but at least I now know I can order one now.

I was hoping to find a video on how to install a mechanical drive in these bays. My last case had grommets on the bottom with normal screws, I can’t figure out how these dinky little mounting plug things are supposed to work.

Is there a way to turn off the white RGB light that blinks while sleeping? It happens to be at my eye level and in my face when I go to bed.
I don't think so, but I never put my computer to sleep, so not really an issue for me.
I want to add a 2nd ssd in the slot below but there no power cable, just the data cable. Any advice?

Thanks for your video! I just ordered a 30L with RTX3080 and i7. I spec'd it with a 1TB SSD and a 1TB HD. Does the motherboard have an open NVME M.2 port to add a second SSD like the Samsung 970 EVO Plus? Can't find the answer anywhere so would really appreciate if you can tell me!

My Omen 30l has the 256 M.2 ssd and 1tb HDD, can I add a second sata ssd in the notch below the one you used to install the ssd? In short, can I add the SSD while keeping the hard drive that's there?

Thanks for this! Just got my new 30L up and running. Is there just one slot for an extra SATA 3 drive? Annoyed about the memory situation also but ordered enough. Also, will I be able to upgrade the gpu to a 3080 with the 750 watt psu?
There are 2 slots for extra storage and yes the 750W PSU is plenty for RTX3080, HP are selling newer 30L's with the same and 3080.
what screws do i need
The ram issue is pretty upsetting because I really wanted to get the full potential of my PC. Overall this makes me want to get new parts as a whole, the case is so small, not enough air flow. The CPU fan is always hot, never a moment where its cool, especially running on low end games like LoL, csgo, valorant, and etc. Dont even get me started on rendering videos, the CPU fan was extremely loud, thought i heard a plane fly by. Installing 32 gigs of ram was basically just adding nothing since its still stuck at 2400 mhz, overall I regret buying this machine from HP. But hey, at least i got a 3070!
Isn't there an option in the command center to enable 3200 mhz?

It's the standard storage screws that case makers are providing.

It depends how many games and how big the games are, for me is enough, as I don't play more than 2-3 games at the time, if I finish a game, I just delete it. I will have another Omen 30L video coming very soon with RTX3070

Do you have the Intel version or AMD?

@@Czarmaza I think the AMD version has only one Nvme drive spot, but you can add 2 Sata SSDs
@@HardwareSense unless they've revised the build, the AMD version has two NVMe spots. Thing is, one of them is currently occupied by the Wifi/Bluetooth controller. So if you want to use it for an SSD, you have to remove the WiFi/Bluetooth controller. Which, y'know, all good, but my experience with the front USB ports is that if I have my wireless mouse/keyboard adapter plugged into one of them, plugging anything into the other USB adapter causes the mouse to spaz out. TMYK.

I got 16bg ram in mine, I ordered 2 more sims for 139 bucks for 2 16gb. I now have 4 matching LED sims for 32gb total.
I also got the 3070 (best I could get) at the time in my OMEN. I hope to go 3090 when I can find one. Not sure if power supply will need to be upped and or cooling?
For 3090 you might need a new PSU

Man for the life of me I can't get one of those FE cards, keep striking out on Best Buy website, hopefully in December if there are quantities, trust me I want that card badly and want to show you guys everything!
So the cables for data, power and tray are already in the case? Most manufacturers require you to buy them seperately. Just looking to clarify as I want to buy a Omen 30L and add a second ssd like this in my system for games and secondary storage but as a SSD not traditional HDD.

I put a regular hard drive in mine from my old computer that has content on it and it does not recognize the drive. Got any trouble shooting methods?
I suggest hooking it up as external drive, transfer your content and don't use it.
I see only power cables in my Omen 25L. There is no data cable to add SSD or HDD. Back to store I guess.
Data cables are super cheap, just buy a few
@harwaresense am I glad I found you. Im about to buy the Samsung 970 Pro 1 TB SSD and use their migration software to clone my C: Drive just to replace their 256G6. After watching your RAM video I'm slightly worried I wont be able to change it from the BIOS. Do you know if it's possible to remove their original booting drive and replace it with one of your own?
If you clone it is should be fine, I was reading somewhere that the second Nvme drive slot is confirmed for Raid 0, but there is some options for that in the Bios so it might be able to reconfigure it

I have to ask what is the other socket for? The one under the one you used? You used two different cables for that one ssd so I'm asuming the other one is not for a third ssd as there is only one cable left.
There set of 2 cables prerouted, for two extra Sata 3 storage drives, SSDs or HDDs

Could you please tell me what the maximum dimensions a graphics card can be to fit in the HP Omen 30L model? I want to upgrade to the RTX 3080, but I am not 100% sure it would fit... I do know that my Moria3 Motherboard is compatible and I have already upgraded to the appropriate power supply (being a 750W).

@@tippyxl6073 Yes the Z490 chipset is fine with it, all cards are backwards compatible anyway.
Does anyone know what PSU is compatible with the omen 30l as I want to upgrade to a 750w cant seem to find any info on this topic
The only thing you need to keep in mind is size of the PSU, I will post the measurements later today in the description.
The current 750W PSU has 15,5cm length, 14cm width and 9,5cm height, I think the case can take even the longest PSUs, probably up to 20cm.

Hey I have a question. the OMEN 25L GT13-0010nj come with a WD_BLACK 1 TB PCIe NVMe TLC SSD. It says that on the motherboard there are One M.2 socket 1, key A
and Two M.2 socket 3, key M. I don't really know what the difference between the sockets are nor doI know what they stand for, does that mean there is a place for another ssd? Specifically the same that the pc already comes with? Or can I add only a hdd? Is there somewhere I can learn how to install an additional ssd in this exact model it it's possible?
Look at the motherboard and see if there is another slot similar to the one already populated by the current 1tb Nvme drive.
This may be a dumb question. But can you explain to me how to get into the Omen Setup Utility? I just got the computer and can’t find the program.
Just open the Start menu and search Omen Command Center
I got my new SSD and tried to install it but the SATA Data cable on the 30L is too short. Did someone else have this problem?

Not on a OEM makers, they can put as many or as little as they want

You can buy it directly from HP, but will have to ask them for the part number.
@@HardwareSense Yeah im in EU, and I tried to check on their website, but they don't have coolers nor RAM's. Though I should buy RAM's HyperX from Kingstone's site as well. You have any links by any chance? And great vid's man, much appreciated. Especially with ryzen master
@@samii-i-i You can buy the ram from anywhere where is cheap and close to you, not sure how well Amazon is represented where you live, but is normally a good source. If you have the AMD base 30L it will be easier for you to grab any ram that you want and use Ryzen Master for sure, with Intel is trickier, also parts.hp.com is the official site of HP but again I am not sure if you can access and buy in the EU. A good replacement for the stock AIO is Corsair H60.

Probably not, HP are not going to give us a proper XMP.
Been thinking of getting this desktop and the configuration page says you can add 2nd, 3rd, and 4th storage options, but you mention you can add up to 2 SSDs. Was it changed recently?

No, if you need a huge storage, just get an external drive, but for main drive and game installation you need Nvme or SSD

@@HardwareSense Oh damn. The 30L I own is the 1660super/500Wpsu one. One last question, is it possible to perform a psu upgrade? Probably would want around 750W (would get one that's reputable of course, probably 80plus gold or platnum). If so I would love to learn how to do it, theres just no info online for it

Hey i have a question. I'm planning on buying an HP omen with only an ssd installed and i'm planning on installing an HDD myself later. My question is, if i don't buy a version that has an HDD preinstalled, will it have a sata cable and a power cable for the HDD like in your video ?
Yes if you buy the 30L and probably the 25L those cables are pre-installed

Hey HardwareSense, do you know if I could add a PCIe USB 3.0 expansion card to this motherboard. It's one of the only things keeping me at bay on this purchase, that and also wondering if i get only 16gb of ram would i get 4 ram slots? I heard from an associate that you need to get 64gb of ram AT PURCHASE to have the MOBO with 4 ram slots, which really sucks....
I'm looking at the 30l that ships with the 3080 and intel 10700k
Unfortunately there is only one PCIe 16x slot nothing else to add extra cards or adapters. As for the ram slots, all Intel based 30L ones are coming with 4 memory slots.

My plan is to buy the 3080FE as soon as I see it in stock, unfortunately so far only the bots are able to buy them, hopefully soon there will be a lot more quantities and with 3070 coming out, maybe people will finally come to their senses and stop buying all the stock like it's gold or something. I have been in computers for almost 30 years and have never seen anything like that before! But as soon as lay my hands on one I will make a ton of videos.

If you replace the original one without cloning, yes.

@@Glitchonmars It's a secondary drive, has nothing to do with with your main one. If you are replacing the main one you will need to clone it or do a fresh install

@@isuk apparently its on the backside of the backpanel. so you have to unscrew the whole 'box' to reach it

Yes of course, you can change all of them, but some fans might throw an error at boot up if their RPMs are very different then the stock fans.

what would be a good SSD card for gaming?
Anything that fits your budget and needs, I am normally buying the cheapest that I can find for 512gb size, normally Inland Pro or Expert series from Microcenter, less than $50.

Yes you can, but I was told that it requires some Bios settings, I am going to have another video on this upgrade and we will see, stay tuned.

The memory is the biggest issue on this computer. I wish HP would leave their corporate ways out and let’s customize more. I know there is ways around it aka Ryzen Master in my case but me being not that much computer literate while wanting the best performance out of my purchase doesn’t help lol.

Yeah, seriously. They'd get more people that way too, if we could REALLY upgrade as much as we want. They always include pretty bad mobo's as well. Sill happy with my 30L, though.
I'm new to pc gaming so I'm alil bit confused why is it bad that the ram defaults to 2600 instead of 3200, is that bad for games or does it really make a difference?
@@Chriselchingon23 Faster memory equals more frames, faster overall performance, especially for AMD and newer Ryzen CPUs, the performance is very depend on the memory frequency.

Had my HP omen 30L for three weeks now. Honestly I was pretty happy with it until I got bsod after a windows 10 update. Now I’m stuck on the recovery screen that’s saying error code: 0xc00000e. I’ve tried reinstalling windows 10 thru a usb successfully but as soon as I restart the computer it would always go back to the recovery screen with the same error code. Has anyone experienced this?

was able to fix mine. Apparently i just had to update my graphic card drivers manually and now its working ok.

It can't be cheaper than adding your own memory.
It isn't, but that's the only to have the RGB and speeds in control without third party software and possible HP warranty issues.

I legit can’t find it on pc part picker to compare specs but anyway basically I got a Samsung 500gb nvme 980 pro plus I wanna say whatever the newest one is and I wanted to use it. I did figure out how to get windows on the new ssd thank god but still thanks.

@@Derek2k Yeah installing faster Nvme can help, that's pretty much it. Also use Ryzen Master to enable PBO.
Aren't external drives mechanical?? If you are willing to use a mechanical external drive, why not just put one in the pc?
Because the external one you have the option to disconnect it and not use it all the time, just when you need to backup or upload anything, less chances of failure. Inside the case will be constantly running, drawing power, creating heat and noise.
