Quake done Quick - Quake done Quickest 2

- 'Quake done Quickest 2' (QdQst2) is a segmented run that completes Quake on Nightmare difficulty as fast as possible, disregarding kills and secrets on all maps. The run is a major overhaul of the Quake done Quickest run from 2011 ( • Quake done Quick - Qua... . The run time is 10:20, which is an improvement of 69 seconds. Each level was recorded in one segment - played over and over again for hours, days, weeks, even months - and then pieced together to create this run. The project was setup in early 2022 and segments were grinded over a span of 2 years by many different runners. With the insane level of execution and optimization of modern-day Quake speedrunning the next generation of runners managed to go even quicker than "Quickest".
It's been an awesome experience, and we're very happy to finally release QdQst2 exactly 13 years after the release of QdQst! Hope you enjoy!

You spedrun to that joke lmao
Yeh ... That's a tragedy.
Nice Video :)
Even I can't explain how awesome this is ❤
Please i know its a lot of work but your vids are so fucking great do a qse video for it giving us some insides about the background
@@snarther1 we are actually made commentary video already, so soon it will be out
Can't wait for your analysis of what just happened
Watching some of the levels here even at full tilt I can spot some of the tricks the runners are using to shave off big chunks of level because I've watched your excellent level run breakdowns :)
But please, consider clarifying how starting level stats are "checked and adjusted".
I'm sure I'm missing something, but we have e.g. E1M5 ending with 3 HP and E1M6 starting with 50 and a rocket jump.
...and this is after E1M4 ending with 5 HP and E1M5 starting with 50.
I understand some kits are walked upon without taking all the benefit, e.g. in E1M5's the gold key room, but I can't find enough missing HP.
I'd even advocate the creation of a compilation using modified demos so HP and ammo are not just checked, but adjusted by script to make runs consistent through whole episodes.
This could be an additional video, just for comfort, but I think it would be much more clear for us, plebian watchers.
EDIT : looks like Quake gives you minimum of 50 HP on every level start O_o Even on Nightmare ???
Well, I've been playing it for over 20 years and am still playing it regularly (OK, now with copper... but thats very recent !), and was just never aware of this... maybe I played too much doom ?
Anyway, I'm not the only one ignoring this, am I ?
"an improvement of 69 seconds" nice! Very, VERY nice!!
Quake speedrunning has truly gone to an insane level of optimization.
In 1997 I got the first QdQ demos from a PC Gamer magazine CD-ROM. That was my introduction to SDA and to speedrunning. Can't believe that more than a quarter century has passed since then. I've seen this run grow more insane with every iteration.
Thank you all for the amazing work on this run.
seeing the same veteran names on the runner list is oddly inspiring
HUH HUH HUH HUH HUH
I think the "Lightning Gun Bug" was meant to be discovered only to make a e2m6 run quite watchable (it used to be awfuly boring). What an INCREDIBLE job these guys made. I had to watch e4m7 twice just to understand what went on in there, wow. It makes me smile to see what is being done today... I remember, for example, the first time I saw e3m1 done in :23 by Markus (in Easy skill), and now the Nightmare Run is :21 😳... and just about every map is just mind-blowingly fast... I was about to name a few that I sepecially liked, but I would have listed over 80% of the runs really. 🤣 That's how good this is.
lets go. gg's guys thank you for amazing work on this masterpiece
Congratulations! Incredible how far Quake speedrunning has become.
I think this quake was done quite quick
Quake done quick was done quick
@sytiravajous Quake done Quicker was done quite quietly quick.
uhhh wtf? Insane. I remember QdQr 16:35 as first speedrun video i saw (I think I saw it in 1998) it was amazing (made like a movie) and I still love it. After long time it was 11:29. After years I thought is is end even if there were new videos of some levels. And now this. You are almost on half time of first QdQ !
I have been watching Quake speedruns since the very beginning, when the first speedruns were published. To this day it's my all-time favorite game to watch speedruns of. No glitches, no out-of-bounds, no save-load-flooding, no going to the game's menu to change settings or whatever, just pure sheer skill and that's it. No gimmicks, no breaking the game, just pure awesome skills.
Quake is almost unique in this respect (with only Doom being very close to it).
Hmm, talk about the FPS switch trick, this poor episode 2 vore, or trigger skips like in E3M2 ?
But yeah, thats true, how glitch-free this game is is pretty impressive for its time. (and game itself was/is freaking great too, of course)
I hope we'll have a sub-10 someday but finding 21 seconds to save looks quite complex in such an environment xD
No magic tricks
Do they just record the runs as is, or are the key/mouse inputs in the recording edited somehow (like TAS)?
@@MusicByproduct
Using tools is absolutely forbidden in normal speedrunning (including segmented speedruns).
All I can hear while watching this is the chill guitar music that plays in QuakeSpeedrunsExplained's videos
@Meadras th-cam.com/video/n7r8Y3T6quA/w-d-xo.html
E2M3 in 14 seconds is insane! :o My congratulations to all participants!
Cant wait!
already exited on the Quake Speedruns Explained video on this one :)
This run changed my life
That e4m7 was beautiful. Great work all around.
amazing runs , some of the endings to maps and tricks are mind blowing ! ggs
All the enemies were probably going "Who TF is that guy??"
*was
What a lucky day for me to search for this, just 3 days after upload! Still looks fucking great. Can't wait for the explanation video from the team.
im always amazed by these quake speedruns. the skill ceiling of that game/engine is insanely high, and these guys have reached it
we need a quake done quickest 2 with commentary from all the players on quake done quick explained. connor!
Bah! You killed the Shambler next to Shub! He's just chillin, cheering you on that you made it to the end of the game, and you execute him! 😲
amazing segmented run!
Good Work, very enjoyable to watch!
It's crazy that this game is still being improved upon. Amazing demo!
Amazing runs. Think I've seen some of these happen. Here's to another 13 years of Quake.
So many amazing tricks! Well done to all the runners!
If there's one thing I learned from this video, it's HUH HUH HUH CLANG CLANG CLANG HUH CLANG CLANG HUH
Absolutely incredible! Great job everyone involved!
had to watch e2m6 3 times, the shooting is aimbot-level. It feels like a lifetime since I was getting in trouble for running ethernet cables outside the windows of my university halls for playing Quake on LAN with friends. It's made my day to see this! Thank you!
That one second gain on e2m3 was something else.
Muty killed the entire run honestly. He wanted to just match Peter's time, but figured out a faster way by executing multiple nade jumps to get a 14.
Every jump is calculated, every bullet is counted. Looks amazing, just like classic "half-life 20:41"!
A superb achievement. GG to all runners - QUAKE lives!!
awesome stuff. the infighting and kill count increase after some levels kills me 😆 they're so angry they're getting dunked on that they just start killing eachother
I have witnessed something legendary. GG!
i was dreaming about quake done quick just yesterday, goddamn
Muty is my favorite still! Good job to everyone though! Glad a legendary video got updated!
Game levels where alot more complex and alot of thinking went into the design of the levels. Great game and dedication to the developers
Holy shit my boy the QUICKEST. E1M4 grenade launcher jump from out the water was fucking PRO, dude.
No words can describe...
Absolutely legends
congrats! to all the contributers on the project
So many impressive runs!
This is ofcourse amazing, but what really blows my mind is the nearly 30 year old game engine and how smooth and fast it is.
It's bare bones, that's why. no need for bells and whistles.
E1M3: "Ha HA! I threw that shit before I walked in the room!"
Awesome job, everyone involved
just when you thought it couldnt get any better
Pure art. 🎉 Please do Quake 2 run.
Part of me is sitting back laughing at the absolute madness, part of me is questioning my life choices. I love my daughters, but was it really worth it, abandoning Quake, the true love of my life?
Work of art!
At RIJ this winter, a HL1,HL2 runner (he was so crazy) told me that QDQ was the inspiration for the name GameDoneQuick.
I never dreamed that QDQ2 would come out the next day!
Very cool
You absolute legends.
Incredible stuff!
amazing run, gg guys
Show this to your wife next time she calls you fast. WP!
Almost feels like I'm watching a TF2 jump map run at this point.
great job 👏
This is the history in making.
PS. Muty dominated this one!
This would have been Kurt Cobain's favourite speedrun.
The dodging on e2m6 was insane
Respect!
Insane
YERRRRRRRE
HUH!!
Amazing.
I didn't even know that pool was jumpable. 😮
1:09 - no way!
tremendous
I hope we get a Something About Quake out of this.
Let's fucking go
Quake done Quickesterest
They done did speedrun quake again
Epic
Idk how muty keeps catching up. No offense to him of course but he has some of the worst movement I've ever seen on this game.
Imagine being so good that you have an ironic meme about how bad you are
He is Drunken Master of Quake
and yet he is the fastest at some of the worst levels
Man you should my movement in this game then.
Wait wat, this just got released? OwO
amazing demos, nevertheless, i yearn for connors dulcet tones over the footage to explain why its actually 10x more amazing than i think it is
incredible..
ZOOMIN N BOOMIN
goat status
good job everyone
It was fast!😮
Holy shit guys. What the hell.
very nice
Bravo, Gentlemen.
I'm way behind on current strats. E3M2 start with no explosive or zombie boost... How??? 🙂
Hey Richard. We have done an in-depth commentary video which will soon be released on Connor's QSE channel. The e3m2 trigger skip will be explained in that one.
@@jozsefszalontai82 Hey there, Joe. Good to hear from you. 🙂 That's cool, I'm looking forward to seeing that. Always entertaining.
GG
Quake done quicker-er
have you seen the latest quake done quick video? it won't take too much of your time, 15 minutes tops!
the lg push into water in e3m5 was a nice touch!
60 FPS is not enough for this video
Witnessed.
edit: 10:48 whaaaaaaaat!
🐿
omg they put The Original from tf2 into this game!!!
And I thought i know Quake well...
Amazing stuff, you guys are incredible! But how does it work in general? If it's map by map do people get assigned a map and then they do their best run and then the next guy gets to go or does everyone grind e1m1 for example and after awhile you just go from there?
We usually wait for each other to have the starting stats, but we also have demo-editing tools to synchronize starting stats (hp, armor, ammo, etc) if a demo on a previous map is done later in time.
I liked the parts when they ran fast.
3:23 - why did the gate open, I saw only 1 shot, did npc shoot another button?
1:09 - these 2 grenades back-to-back are insane
One of the buttons opens the door, the other one extends the bridge. The runner only needed to open the door since they had enough speed to jump over the gap without having to extend the bridge.
100% hue
0% ueee grrr
HUH HUH HUH
Question:
In the older QuakeDoneQuickest they fly straight to the end tele on e4m2 by vibrating quickly side-to-side. They get over the wall. I think it looks faster than what they did here, even though what they did here was done very smoothly.
So the question is why haven't I ever seen that trick in any other quake runs?
That run was done using a scripting trickery permitted for once, but nowadays scripts that can do tricks consistently are not allowed in today's runs anymore. Explosion boosts on e1m1 aeons ago were also done with similar methods of scripting.
@@LeaveittotheMattster Ahhh, thanks for explaining. I'm surprised scripts were ever allowed in official runs, glad it is allowed no longer.
7:30 Why the key didn't hide?
Jumped over a trigger
@@vovomtb More like crossed over it, the FPS get lowered to a point where the player is never actually into the trigger
