Wow this video was a tough b*tch to make.. Took a very long time and a lot of hard work.. I’m glad I got it finished on time! Also, my voice was a bit weak when I recorded so I may sound even weirder and creepier than usual, as if that was possible! Anyway, thanks for watching and helping to make this little corner of ours of TH-cam so awesome!
Gotham Rogues Hey Rogues! I just want to say I'm a huge fan of your videos. Your one of my favorite youtubers and I hope one day you have millions of subscribers! If you ever want an idea for a video you should review the Batman villain Dr. Hurt. Okay keep up the great work! 👍👍👍
Some of my favorite Batman comics (in no particular order): 1. Knightfall 2. No Man's Land 3. The Cult 4. Ten Nights of the Beast 5. The Ratcatcher 6. Detective Comics #27 7. Year One 8. Going Sane 9. Fear for Sale 10. A Death in the Family.

20. Prey 19. The Joker's 5 way revenge 18. The man who laughs 17. Zero year 16. Dark Knight returns (It's so low on my list because although I love the story, I hate the art) 15. Ressurection of Ra's Al Ghul 14. Birth of The Demon 13. Black mirror/Skeleton cases 12. I am Suicide/I am Bane (it's fresh in my mind and I really enjoyed it) 11. Under the hood 10. Arkham Asylum: A serious house on serious Earth 9. Court of Owls 8. Knightfall 7. No man's land 6. Tower of Babel (I think this counts, as it was kind of a Batman story) 5. Hush 4. Batman R.I.P. 3. Killing Joke 2. Death of the family 1. Endgame But like you said at the end, I might change my mind tomorrow. Too many great stories and I had a tough time narrowing my favourites down.
I'm glad to see at least one list like this that isn't completely made up of predictable choices. Even if some of these issues wouldn't necessarily break my personal Top 20, I'm still supportive of any list that encourages people to check out good solo issues or two-parters from each era of Batman's 80-year run instead of just handing them _DKR_ and _Court of Owls_ and calling it a day.
I'm new to reading Batman comics, so these are the ones I've read so far. (In the order of when I read them.) 1. The Killing Joke. 2. Year One. 3. The Long Halloween. 4. Dark Victory. 5. A Death In The Family. 6. The Dark Knight Returns. 7. Knightfall. (still reading.)
Recommended reading 10. The first appearance of Joker Batman #1 1940 9. Batman # 296 ( A great Scarecrow story) 8. DC Superhero Spectacular #1 Batman Versus Kobra. Beautifully drawn by Jim Aparo. 7.The Demon of Gothos Manor Beautiful and Haunting art by Irv. Norvick. 6.The original Man Bat Trilogy Neal Adams at his finest! 5.Brave and the Bold # 93 A classic Batman and House of Mystery Story! Beautiful Neal Adams art! 4. Batman Night of the Reaper Brilliant writing by Denny O'Neill and brilliant art by Neal Adams. 3.The untold story of Batman. A great three part miniseries with incredible Jim Aparo art. 2.The original Ra's Al Ghul saga. Incredible art by Neal Adams. His illustrations of Talia were stunning! 1. The Secret of The Waiting Graves. An incredible gothic horror story. Neal Adams version of the Batman reincarnated The Dark Knight from a figure of parody to an avenging figure of the night.
I'm loving these videos! Keep it up. I like that you started branching off into other heroes' rogues as well. I'd also like to see something about Morrison's R.I.P. run.
my 5 are: 1.war on crime 2.strange apporitions 3.knightfall 4.devil's advocate 5.alan grant and norm breyfogle's run on detective comics/batman/shadow of the bat
Solid list....I'd throw in Batman 253 myself, where he and The Shadow teamed up in a one shot. I really like the channel, I regret it took me this long to find it!
just saying I'm only doing 10 because I'm REALLY tired. 10-The long Halloween (bit of a cliche to put this here, but I just love the concept of a villain in the rogues gallery representing a month or holiday, ivy was March with st Patrick's day, joker was Christmas, Scarecrow for Halloween, etc, plus being an artist myself, I won a certificate from my high school for my profile of poison ivy influences by the art in this book) 9-Batman R.I.P. (By one of my favourite authors and an inspiration to me grant Morrison ((I'm also from glasgow)) not the best art but Morrison writes with perfect understanding of batman and his world) 8-Death of the family (a brilliantly written batman and joker story with fantastic artwork) 7-Going sane (I agree with you rogues, this is a bit of a masterpiece. An incredibly intriguing story which poses questions ive asked myself sometimes about the two's relationship) 6-*going to cheat a little and put a whole selection of stories* Batman black and white stories. (okay not all of these are great, some of them are pretty bad in fact, but the few ones I read over and over again are: -Two of a kind by Bruce timm -A black and white world by Neil gaiman -Case study by Paul dini and -perpetual mourning by Ted mckneever all fantastic stories and alot of other short stories you should check out) 5-Eye of the beholder (perfect two face story in my opinion) 4-Mad love (another cliche but the writing of Paul dini and art by my drawing idol Bruce timm reminds me of my childhood) 3-Endgame (also more of a batman and joker together story but the way this is written with some tongue in cheek dialogue and an origin story for mister J which I can accept, it's a personal fav and the way I think the batman should end) 2-The killing joke (possibly number one but it's more of a joker AND batman story, but Alan Moore being my favourite author of all time, I had to include this) 1-Whatever happened to the caped crusader? (pure masterpiece)
My fav. 20: 1. The Joker’s Five-Way Revenge (Batman #251) 2. Strange Apparitions (Detective Comics #469-479) 3. Daughter of the Demon (Batman #232) 4. The Dark Knight Returns (miniseries) 5. Batman: Year One (Batman #404-407) 6. There is No Hope in Crime Alley (Detective Comics #457) 7. The Long Halloween/Dark Victory 8. Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth (graphic novel) 9. Mad Love (The Batman Adventures: Mad Love #1) 10. The Killing Joke (one-shot) 11. Night of the Reaper (Batman #237) 12. A Vow From the Grave (Detective Comics #410) 13. Night of the Stalker (Detective Comics #439) 14. The Batman Nobody Knows (Batman #250) 15. Dreadful Birthday, Dear Joker (Batman #321) 16. Shaman (Legends of the Dark Knight #1-5) 17. The Joker/The Joker Returns (Batman #1) 18. A Lonely Place of Dying (Batman #440-442, The New Titans #60-61) 19. Robin the Boy Wonder (Detective Comics #38) 20. Slayride (Detective Comics #826) comixntoonz.blogspot.com/2019/05/80-years-of-batman.html
My all time favorite is 'Venom' by Denny O'Neill. It doesn't feature any costumed rogues, just a twisted pharmacist and a General. It's a great Batman-centric story dealing with his drug addiction and realizing his human limitations. My favorite aspect of it is how Batman cares more about the pharmacist's daughter and the General's son than their parents do.
I just teared up watching this video ;_; ! It's my boys first birthday!!!! But in all seriousness, what a milestone hey. From 0 subs and views on the very first day you started to where you are now! Your subs/fans could not be proud of you. 1 year is a mere pitstop in your journey to success on TH-cam and I hope to see you continuously posting your amazing content. I hope that I can be here from the (near) beginning till whenever you reach 100k, then one 1 mil and so on. Congratulations brother and a remarkable choice of stories too if I do say so myself!!! Waiting on that face reveal ;)
"Eye of the Beholder" is my favorite post-Crisis reimagining of anything, mainly because it established Harvey Dent as having mental problems before he was disfigured. My top 10 (at the moment): 1. The Laughing Fish/Sign of the Joker 2. Case of the Honest Thief 3. Messiah of the Midnight Sun 4. Batman Year One 5. Tomb of the White Bat 6. The Batman Nobody Knows 7. Daughter of the Demon 8. Boxing 9. Deathmask 10.The Gorilla Crime Boss of Gotham City
I'm proud for this channel. I've taken a break to say Happy 1 year anniversary, Rogues. I got excited when I saw this in my notifications and I plan on watching it tonight. Will give my feedback then. Thanks for all of your hard work and entertainment.
Three great Batman stories from The Brave And The Bold: #79 Track of the Hook! Batman meets Deadman and joins the quest for his killer. ( The Deadman series introduced the League of Assassin's, which would lead to the introduction of Ra's Al Ghul!) #108. The Night Batman Sold His Soul. Is the mysterious man Batman and Sgt. Rock hunting for Hitler as Rock claims , or Satan as he claims to be to Batman? #195. Night of Blood . Batman teams up with Andrew Bennett of the House of Mystery's I, Vampire series!
Oh boy... this was tough. 1. The Killing Joke 2. Knightfall (including Knightquest and Knightend) 3. Year One 4. The Long Halloween 5. Arkham Asylum 6. The Dark Knight Returns 7. Endgame 8. The Man Who Laughs 9. Earth One 10. Detective Comics 27-37 11. Dark Victory 12. Zero Year 13. Gotham By Gaslight 14. Vampire Trilogy (Batman vs Dracula, Bloodstorm, Red Rain) Ones I still need to figure out the ranking of are Gothic, The Laughing Fish, Prey, Death of the Family, Ego, Dark Knight Dark City, and so many others. P.S., since you said you wish Bolland drew more Batman comics, he wrote and drew a story for Batman Black and White which has since been included in new versions of the Killing Joke, now with colour!
1. Year One 2. Earth One Vol. 1 3. The Killing Joke 4. No Man's Land 5. The Man Who Laughs 6. One Night In Gotham City (Technically a Superman tale, but Batman is pretty much the main focus) 7. Knightfall 8. The Laughing Fish/Sign Of The Joker 9. The Black Mirror 10. Batman R.I.P. 11. The Court Of Owls 12. The Long Halloween 13. Dark Night, Dark City 14. Mad Love 15. The Cult 16. Dark Victory 17. A Death In The Family 18. Venom 19. Arkham Asylum: A Serious House On Serious Earths 20. Love Bird
I don't know how I would go about ranking them, but up there I would have to put Batman and Robin Reborn, Batman Rip, Batman the Black Mirror, Court of Owls, The Cult, Long Halloween and Arkham Asylum, a Serious House on Serious Earth, (not in any particular order). Anything written by Grant Morrison or Scott Snyder I usually end up enjoying anyways. Great Video. Keep up the awesome work.
As others have said, I'm glad that you don't just go with the most popular choices and actually have some more obscure stories. As great as the most celebrated Batman stories are, there are far too many great ones that people tend to overlook and aren't even aware of. Anyway, after reading as much Batman as possible from various eras, my top 20 would have to be: 20.) Ten Nights of the Beast (1987) 19.) New Gotham (2000) 18.) Heart of Hush (2009) 17.) A Lonely Place of Dying (1989) 16.) Endgame (2015) 15.) The Man Who Laughs (2005) 14.) Prey (1991) 13.) Birth of the Demon (1992) 12.) Eye of the Beholder (1990) 11.) The Court of Owls (2011) 10.) Night of the Stalker (1974) 09.) A Death in the Family (1988) 08.) Year One (1987)/Zero Year (2014)* 07.) Son of the Demon (1987) 06.) Death of the Family (2013) 05.) No Man's Land (1999) 04.) Knightfall (1993-94) 03.) The Killing Joke (1988) 02.) The Dark Knight Returns (1986) 01.) The Long Halloween/Dark Victory (1997-2000)** *I couldn't decide which origin I liked more, so I put them both together. **Both go together perfectly as one big story.
What a great way to celebrate your one year anniversary! I have enjoyed watching all of your videos, especially your videos on underrated rogues and top 5 villain lists. I can't wait to see what other surprises you got up your sleeve.
20. Batman vs predator 19. Batman venom 18. Death in the family 17. The last arkham 16. Devils advocate 15. Gotham by gaslight 14. Fever 13. My own worst enemy 12. Prey 11. Year one 10. The dark knight returns 9. Death has the last laugh 8. The long halloween 7. Knightfall 6. Eye of the beholder 5. Penguin triumphant 4. Dark knight dark city 3. No mans land 2. Cult 1. Serious house on serious earth.
Happy Anniversary gotham rogues i have been a subscriber for 8 monthes and have faloved and loved your channel ever since you can see from all the coments i have made.
My number one favorite Batman story is Batman issue 40 aka "Fatal Wish". In it, Batman tries to stop a sniper from killing anymore people than he has, but when the killer wishes that everyone was dead, it triggers a painful memory from Batman's past and causes Bruce to lose focus. As a result, the sniper dies by a policeman's bullet It really shows how unable Batman is to elt go of the past and is a reminder that if you can't let go of the past, then you cannot solve the problems of the present. And also, the cover is awesome.
I don't know how I missed this video when it came out, because I'm pretty sure I've been subscribed since then. This was a great list and I'm so glad you're still going strong. Thanks for three years of great videos.
-Grant Morrison's run -Tom King's run (yes, I said it. What you gonna do?) -No Man's Land -TDKR (I mean, it's TDKR) -Most of the Legends of the Dark Knight run (it has some duds...but the majority of that run is surprisingly solid all the way around) -Strange Apparitions (this was the first crop of old school comics, along with Lee's Spidey, that got me to appreciate older comics) -The OG Batman and the Outsiders run by Mike Barr -The second run Doug Moench had on the character with art by Kelly Jones (most fans consider this minor Batman... it just WORKS for me) -The various "Adventures" titles that spun off BTAS - The Batman Black and White series -The OG Finger/Kane stuff from the 40s. I struggle with Golden Age stuff generally...but those first few years of Batman still hold up. They're simple, straight forward, and surprisingly grim little superhero/crime comics. - Peter J. Tomasi's Batman and Robin -The Long Halloween -Year One -Scott Snyder's run -Grant/Breyfogle run
Hey Gotham Rogues to fully complete the trio of 70s comics well one of them is from the early 80s but here we go since you've done Killer Croc,Man-Bat, The last one should be Swamp Thing I mean suprisingly he was extremely popular in the 70's hell he even got his own movie I would love for you to review him I've been a fan of him since I was a kid growing up in Louisiana and he's even got a race car based on him really cool stuff, Have a good day!
I ain’t gonna make a whole list because I’m about to go to bed, but Detective Comics #574: My Beginning and My Probable End is a fantastic issue ANY Batman fan should read, like seriously, my best advice I could give anyone is read that story, and then immediately read Batman Year One, they kinda go hand and hand, and then go read Zero Year if they want to.
For Me: 10. The Cult 9. Gotham By Gaslight 8. Noel 7. Cycle of Violence 6. Joker: Devil's Advocate 5. Arkham Asylum 4. The Long Halloween 3. Year One 2. The Killing Joke 1. The Dark Knight Returns
My top 20 would be: - No mans land - Cataclysm - Knight quest - sword of Azrael - Birth of the Demon - Knights End - Contagium - venom - Batman & son - The return of Bruce Wayne - The Black Glove - R.I.P - Year One - Knightfall - Endgame - Death of the family (new 52) - Court of Owls - Batman incorporated - Hush - The Dark Knight Returns

You're one of the greatest Superhero guys on youtube IMO. Hoping for many more years of your vids man! Can't wait to see what you come up with next. Glad to see you like Red Rain, it's one of my favorite Batman comics as well. Would you ever consider doing a video discussing your thoughts on Batman Beyond?

It was a great list I enjoyed watching it very much. I was so happy to see Dark Knight, Dark City mentioned. I knew that Eye of the Beholder was going to be on here lol I have it in a Batman Forever promo collection of some of the best Riddler and Two-Face stories. It was my favorite story In the whole book. Geez. like you said, making a list of best Batman stories is a BITCH. I would have to go through my collection to rank the ones that I have as a top 10. But Idk if I could rate them based on all of the bat stories I've ever read. I think maybe I'll try, if I get time, to just list the top 10 of my collection maybe not even in any particular order, but just to get dialogue going on about the topic.
I really like your video's, and I have nothing bad to say about any of them, except the like of nightfall!!!! It's the one thing that at the time made me stop collecting batman comics, but your stuff rocks
Venom. Gothic. Shaman The Lazarus Affair Year One. To Kill a Legend The Vampiri arc of the 80s Englehart Rogers run. Batman 600 Batman 302. Attack of the Wirehead Killers Knightsend arc
Also love hush, court of owls, zero hour, endgame, year one and master race. Batman so bad ass chuck norris checks under his bed for batman before lights out.
9:07 The bit when Joker kidnaps babies and is planning to kill them really disturbs me. It's one of the sickest, most evil things he's ever done. And even Joker knows he's gone too far because he frowns after killing Sarah Gordon instead of smiling or laughing as he usually would.
I'm just trying to read more batman stories so I'll do a top 5 in no order 1. Court of owls 2. Fear of faith 3. Batman rip 4. The long Halloween 5. Death of the family
My top twelve favorite vintage Batman stories in no order are 1. Batman #134 2. Batman #201 3. Batman #206 4. Batman #247 5. Brave and the Bold #83 6. Brave and the Bold #93 7. Brave and the Bold #106 8. Brave and the Bold #120 9. Detective Comics #389 10. Swamp Thing #7 11. Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #89 12. Worlds Finest #169
I really don't know what my Top 20 would be...and RIGHT NOW, I'm a little too lazy to try and make it. You have a lot of great choices, a few of which I haven't really read. Mine would be very different, however, I'm certain. Here's a quick list of some story arcs/novels/comics that you did not include on your list, which would have been somewhere on mine. 1. Batman: Nine Lives (If you haven't read this Elseworlds story, you should. I honestly do believe you'll enjoy it...well, except for the way they work Riddler into things. That's really the only problem I HAVE with this comic, honestly.) 2. The Long Halloween (I know you don't like Jeph Loeb that much, and I can totally understand why, but I really do love this story. It would probably be up there in my top five.) 3. Gotham By Gaslight (Another Elseworlds story, with Batman in a Victorian/Edwardian era setting.) 4. A Death in the Family (classic) 5. The Laughing Fish/Sign of the Joker (classic) 6. Batman: Madness (again, it's my favorite Mad Hatter story; the other two stories included in the "Haunted Knight" anthology were okay, but this one takes the cake for me) 7. Under the Red Hood (I saw the movie before I read the story arc; I like them both quite a lot) 8. Night of the Owls (I'm glad to see the Court of Owls are steadily making their way into other media, via "Gotham" and "Batman vs. Robin.") 9. Night of the Shadow (I almost forgot this one. I don't want to go too into detail here, but suffice it to say it's a somewhat similar story to that of the TAS episode "Beware the Gray Ghost!" and involves Batman encountering a character who was a major inspiration in his real-life creation, way back when Bob Kane thought him up...and it connects this character to Bruce Wayne in a manner that does not break the fourth wall. There's a recent comic series that's ongoing involving similar ideas; once it finishes, I may consider it a contender, too.) That's almost half a list there, albeit in no particular order. XD
It's one of two, yes. They recently released a six-part miniseries (the fifth issue just came out this week; the sixth is next month) that's also a crossover between Batman and The Shadow. Honestly, it just may be one of my new Top 20, even better than Night of the Shadow. It has a lot of what made Night of the Shadow great, thematically, but is able to take more time, and do a little more with its story, given the six-part structure. (If there's any major downside for me - SPOILER ALERT - it's that the only major Bat-Rogue is the Joker...which I guess makes sense, especially since Mr. J. is bloody everywhere...but considering in issue three we tease Batman being captured by A WHOLE SLEW OF VILLAINS, it's sort of disappointing that they are dealt with so easily and quickly in issue four.)
Here's my list No.1 Prey (My first batman comic) No.2 Knightfall No.3 The Man Who Laughs No.4 Creatures of Clay No.5 The Dark Knight Returns No.6 The Long Halloween No.7 Madness means the Man-Bat No.8 Gothic No.9 Son of the Demon No.10 Scottish Connection Honorable mentions [AKA I haven't read them yet] Joker's Boner, The Man-Bat Trilogy, Batman 1989 comic adaptation (I intend on buying the latter) [Edit] I know this channel is dead and this video is old but I still wanted to post my list
Love all your video's. You may not know much about me, but I'm a major comic book collector too with a specialty in DC. Perhaps we could do a collab video sometime?
New here! Love the 20. I just started getting into comics and kve been considering the batman golden age omnis. Wanted to see if maybe that would be a good start, i know its his first stories so maybe it should be a great place to start but maybe not.
My top ten batman stories are 1 the long halloween 2 red rain 3 gotham by gaslight 4 hush 5 killing joke 6 dark knight returns 7 year one 8 demon's head 9 ten nights of the beast/the reaper(a tie) 10 batman v predator
Gotham Rouges what issue is that in any Batman of the picture of the thumbnail of this video and please tell me that Marshall Rogers drawing? Which looks amazing and wanted as my wallpaper on my laptop
Thanks! It's from DC Special Series #15, the story is called 'Death Strikes at midnight and three', by Denny O'Neil and indeed Marshall Rogers. It's mainly written in prose actually. It's been reprinted in the Marshall Rogers hardcover collection and the 'Greatest Batman stories ever told' tpb from around 2003-2005. It's actually my favorite image of Batman, that's why I used it in the thumbnail ;) Glad you liked it too!

9. Court of Owls
8. Knightfall
7. No man's land
6. Tower of Babel (I think this counts, as it was kind of a Batman story)
5. Hush
4. Batman R.I.P.
3. Killing Joke
2. Death of the family
1. Endgame
But like you said at the end, I might change my mind tomorrow. Too many great stories and I had a tough time narrowing my favourites down.
Cool to see Prey and Birth of the Demon on your list! And it's funny I also hate the art of TDKR but like the story.
Thanks. I really feel Prey is an underrated classic.
comixntoonz.blogspot.com/2019/05/80-years-of-batman.html
A list like this is so refreshing compared to the usual ones consisting of hush, long halloween, tdkr, court of owls etc
(In the order of when I read them.)
1. The Killing Joke.
2. Year One.
3. The Long Halloween.
4. Dark Victory.
5. A Death In The Family.
6. The Dark Knight Returns.
7. Knightfall. (still reading.)
The Ratcatcher would've fit perfectly in the show "Gotham". He could've built up Killer Croc too if Gotham has the rights.

Batman #1 1940
9. Batman # 296 ( A great Scarecrow story)
8. DC Superhero Spectacular #1

Beautiful and Haunting art by Irv. Norvick.
6.The original Man Bat Trilogy
Neal Adams at his finest!
5.Brave and the Bold # 93 A classic Batman and House of Mystery Story! Beautiful Neal Adams art!
4. Batman Night of the Reaper
Brilliant writing by Denny O'Neill and brilliant art by Neal Adams.
Love you rogue don't stop making videos 🦇🦇🦇
Man. I need to go to work in 5 minutes...... Nahhh Gotham Rogues is more important. 😁
Haha ;)
I'm loving these videos! Keep it up.
I like that you started branching off into other heroes' rogues as well.
I'd also like to see something about Morrison's R.I.P. run.
my 5 are:
1.war on crime
2.strange apporitions
3.knightfall
4.devil's advocate
5.alan grant and norm breyfogle's run on detective comics/batman/shadow of the bat
Solid list....I'd throw in Batman 253 myself, where he and The Shadow teamed up in a one shot. I really like the channel, I regret it took me this long to find it!
I'm happy to have been here since the beginning
Coffee Films Me too. I remember when Rogues had 2-3 subs.
Wow that's impressive Dylan ;)
Coffee Films me too
just saying I'm only doing 10 because I'm REALLY tired.
10-The long Halloween (bit of a cliche to put this here, but I just love the concept of a villain in the rogues gallery representing a month or holiday, ivy was March with st Patrick's day, joker was Christmas, Scarecrow for Halloween, etc, plus being an artist myself, I won a certificate from my high school for my profile of poison ivy influences by the art in this book)
9-Batman R.I.P. (By one of my favourite authors and an inspiration to me grant Morrison ((I'm also from glasgow)) not the best art but Morrison writes with perfect understanding of batman and his world)
8-Death of the family (a brilliantly written batman and joker story with fantastic artwork)
7-Going sane (I agree with you rogues, this is a bit of a masterpiece. An incredibly intriguing story which poses questions ive asked myself sometimes about the two's relationship)
6-*going to cheat a little and put a whole selection of stories* Batman black and white stories. (okay not all of these are great, some of them are pretty bad in fact, but the few ones I read over and over again are:
-Two of a kind by Bruce timm
-A black and white world by Neil gaiman
-Case study by Paul dini
and
-perpetual mourning by Ted mckneever
all fantastic stories and alot of other short stories you should check out)
5-Eye of the beholder (perfect two face story in my opinion)
4-Mad love (another cliche but the writing of Paul dini and art by my drawing idol Bruce timm reminds me of my childhood)
3-Endgame (also more of a batman and joker together story but the way this is written with some tongue in cheek dialogue and an origin story for mister J which I can accept, it's a personal fav and the way I think the batman should end)
2-The killing joke (possibly number one but it's more of a joker AND batman story, but Alan Moore being my favourite author of all time, I had to include this)
1-Whatever happened to the caped crusader? (pure masterpiece)
Cool list! Nice to see someone else include Eye of The Beholder as well ;)
My fav. 20:
1. The Joker’s Five-Way Revenge (Batman #251)
2. Strange Apparitions (Detective Comics #469-479)
3. Daughter of the Demon (Batman #232)
4. The Dark Knight Returns (miniseries)
5. Batman: Year One (Batman #404-407)
6. There is No Hope in Crime Alley (Detective Comics #457)
7. The Long Halloween/Dark Victory
8. Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth (graphic novel)
9. Mad Love (The Batman Adventures: Mad Love #1)
10. The Killing Joke (one-shot)
11. Night of the Reaper (Batman #237)
12. A Vow From the Grave (Detective Comics #410)
13. Night of the Stalker (Detective Comics #439)
14. The Batman Nobody Knows (Batman #250)
15. Dreadful Birthday, Dear Joker (Batman #321)
16. Shaman (Legends of the Dark Knight #1-5)
17. The Joker/The Joker Returns (Batman #1)
18. A Lonely Place of Dying (Batman #440-442, The New Titans #60-61)

20. Slayride (Detective Comics #826)

What else do you recommend besides the most famous ones
Venom is indeed one of the best if not the best Batman story I've ever read.
Or maybe a Top 10 Batman Designs. I know that you mainly do Villains and not Heroes but I think it would an interesting Change Of Pace.
Love your Channel! It's a great history of the comics. I remember reading or having them when I was a kid. So THANKS for the Channel 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I also really like bat mite glad to meet another fan
Thank you very much my old ninja friend!!
I did a face reveal long ago actually, the video is called Rogue Thoughts.. ;)
OOH i really have missed a lot XD!!! brb gonna go take a peak at this sexy guy
"Eye of the Beholder" is my favorite post-Crisis reimagining of anything, mainly because it established Harvey Dent as having mental problems before he was disfigured.
My top 10 (at the moment):
1. The Laughing Fish/Sign of the Joker
2. Case of the Honest Thief
3. Messiah of the Midnight Sun
4. Batman Year One
5. Tomb of the White Bat
6. The Batman Nobody Knows
7. Daughter of the Demon
8. Boxing
9. Deathmask
10.The Gorilla Crime Boss of Gotham City
Great list! Some really obscure picks there
I'm proud for this channel. I've taken a break to say Happy 1 year anniversary, Rogues. I got excited when I saw this in my notifications and I plan on watching it tonight. Will give my feedback then. Thanks for all of your hard work and entertainment.
Thank you Mister, hope you like it! And looking forward to your list ;)
Three great Batman stories from The Brave And The Bold: #79 Track of the Hook! Batman meets Deadman and joins the quest for his killer. ( The Deadman series introduced the League of Assassin's, which would lead to the introduction of Ra's Al Ghul!)
Batman #400 is what got me into comics. It's such a great issue and prominently features most of his villains at the time.
Oh boy... this was tough.
1. The Killing Joke
2. Knightfall (including Knightquest and Knightend)
3. Year One
4. The Long Halloween
5. Arkham Asylum
6. The Dark Knight Returns
7. Endgame
8. The Man Who Laughs
9. Earth One
10. Detective Comics 27-37
11. Dark Victory
12. Zero Year
13. Gotham By Gaslight
14. Vampire Trilogy (Batman vs Dracula, Bloodstorm, Red Rain)
Ones I still need to figure out the ranking of are Gothic, The Laughing Fish, Prey, Death of the Family, Ego, Dark Knight Dark City, and so many others.
P.S., since you said you wish Bolland drew more Batman comics, he wrote and drew a story for Batman Black and White which has since been included in new versions of the Killing Joke, now with colour!
Finally a list that includes my all time favourite Batman stories “Blind Justice!”! So underrated, such fantastic story! Great list!
1. Year One
2. Earth One Vol. 1
3. The Killing Joke
4. No Man's Land

For me
5. Year One
4. Requiem of a Killer
3. Challenge of Calendar Man
2. Going Sane
1. The Long Halloween
Congrats man, and awesome work on this vid. Just found your channel a few weeks ago and I'm addicted to your vids. Great content and research
Thank you very much!
As others have said, I'm glad that you don't just go with the most popular choices and actually have some more obscure stories. As great as the most celebrated Batman stories are, there are far too many great ones that people tend to overlook and aren't even aware of. Anyway, after reading as much Batman as possible from various eras, my top 20 would have to be:
20.) Ten Nights of the Beast (1987)
19.) New Gotham (2000)
18.) Heart of Hush (2009)
17.) A Lonely Place of Dying (1989)
16.) Endgame (2015)
15.) The Man Who Laughs (2005)
14.) Prey (1991)
13.) Birth of the Demon (1992)
12.) Eye of the Beholder (1990)
11.) The Court of Owls (2011)
10.) Night of the Stalker (1974)
09.) A Death in the Family (1988)
08.) Year One (1987)/Zero Year (2014)*
07.) Son of the Demon (1987)
06.) Death of the Family (2013)
05.) No Man's Land (1999)
04.) Knightfall (1993-94)
03.) The Killing Joke (1988)
02.) The Dark Knight Returns (1986)
01.) The Long Halloween/Dark Victory (1997-2000)**
*I couldn't decide which origin I liked more, so I put them both together.
**Both go together perfectly as one big story.
What a great way to celebrate your one year anniversary! I have enjoyed watching all of your videos, especially your videos on underrated rogues and top 5 villain lists. I can't wait to see what other surprises you got up your sleeve.
Thanks Tao, and for sticking around for such a long time ;)

"Blind Justice" may be the most underrated Batman story of all time.
Really surprised "The Dark Knight Returns" didn't make your list!
Happy Anniversary gotham rogues i have been a subscriber for 8 monthes and have faloved and loved your channel ever since you can see from all the coments i have made.
Thanks! And yes I know ;)
My number one favorite Batman story is Batman issue 40 aka "Fatal Wish".
Fantastic list, and more importantly happy anniversary! Here's looking forward to another great year for the show!
Thank you Steven!
Love your videos been subscribed since day 1
Awesome and thank you!
I don't know how I missed this video when it came out, because I'm pretty sure I've been subscribed since then. This was a great list and I'm so glad you're still going strong. Thanks for three years of great videos.
Interesting list. Batman: Gothic will always remain my favorite Batman story.
Congratulations Man !
-Grant Morrison's run
-Tom King's run (yes, I said it. What you gonna do?)
-No Man's Land
-TDKR (I mean, it's TDKR)
-Most of the Legends of the Dark Knight run (it has some duds...but the majority of that run is surprisingly solid all the way around)
-Strange Apparitions (this was the first crop of old school comics, along with Lee's Spidey, that got me to appreciate older comics)
-The OG Batman and the Outsiders run by Mike Barr
-The second run Doug Moench had on the character with art by Kelly Jones (most fans consider this minor Batman... it just WORKS for me)
-The various "Adventures" titles that spun off BTAS
- The Batman Black and White series
-The OG Finger/Kane stuff from the 40s. I struggle with Golden Age stuff generally...but those first few years of Batman still hold up. They're simple, straight forward, and surprisingly grim little superhero/crime comics.
- Peter J. Tomasi's Batman and Robin
-The Long Halloween
-Year One
-Scott Snyder's run
-Grant/Breyfogle run
Knightfall, Killing Joke, Dark Knight Dark City, A Gotham Tale, Laughing Fish. Just off the top of my head.

Congratulations! keep making this videos, i enjoy it a lot. Grettings from Colombia

Here is an idea for Underrated Rouges: The K.G.Beast!
Thanks glad you liked it! Yeah it is really tough.. I almost opted to not do the video and do something else instead..
The Joker's Five-Way Revenge from Batman 251. Written by Denny O'Neil and illustrated by Neal Adams.
I intentionally keep my favorite Batman story a secret, it’s super obscure and like no one knows it.
I really like your video's, and I have nothing bad to say about any of them, except the like of nightfall!!!! It's the one thing that at the time made me stop collecting batman comics, but your stuff rocks
Venom.
Gothic.
Shaman
The Lazarus Affair
Year One.
To Kill a Legend
The Vampiri arc of the 80s
Englehart Rogers run.
Batman 600
Batman 302. Attack of the Wirehead Killers
Knightsend arc
My top 3 batman reads all time #1 long halloween and dark victory #2 death of the family #3 the dark knight saga.
Also love hush, court of owls, zero hour, endgame, year one and master race. Batman so bad ass chuck norris checks under his bed for batman before lights out.
I'm a huge fan of the channel keep up the good work
Thanks!
My favorite Batman story is Whatever Happened To The Caped Crusader? which appeared in Batman 686 and Detective Comics 853.
People have mixed opinions of the animated Brave and Bold series, but, making Bat-Mite an entitled fanboy was a natural evolution of the character.
i think its a year one one shot, "Baggage" . sweet story. No rogues per say but very cool.
I remember a TAS story similar to that Penguin Episode.
Happy anniversary
9:07 The bit when Joker kidnaps babies and is planning to kill them really disturbs me. It's one of the sickest, most evil things he's ever done. And even Joker knows he's gone too far because he frowns after killing Sarah Gordon instead of smiling or laughing as he usually would.
i loved the art of bullet for bullock dont know why
I love Knightfall and No Mans Land. Long Halloween and Hush also.
Dr hurt is not really forgotten he is actually underrated
I'm just trying to read more batman stories so I'll do a top 5 in no order
1. Court of owls
2. Fear of faith
3. Batman rip
4. The long Halloween
5. Death of the family
Also what are your thoughts on OTHER Dark Heroes aside from Batman like HellBoy or The Specter? Sorry for so many questions Boss Bub.
My top twelve favorite vintage Batman stories in no order are
1. Batman #134
2. Batman #201
3. Batman #206
4. Batman #247
5. Brave and the Bold #83
6. Brave and the Bold #93
7. Brave and the Bold #106
8. Brave and the Bold #120
9. Detective Comics #389
10. Swamp Thing #7
11. Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #89
12. Worlds Finest #169
Knightfall is my favorite series
I really don't know what my Top 20 would be...and RIGHT NOW, I'm a little too lazy to try and make it. You have a lot of great choices, a few of which I haven't really read. Mine would be very different, however, I'm certain. Here's a quick list of some story arcs/novels/comics that you did not include on your list, which would have been somewhere on mine.
1. Batman: Nine Lives (If you haven't read this Elseworlds story, you should. I honestly do believe you'll enjoy it...well, except for the way they work Riddler into things. That's really the only problem I HAVE with this comic, honestly.)
2. The Long Halloween (I know you don't like Jeph Loeb that much, and I can totally understand why, but I really do love this story. It would probably be up there in my top five.)
3. Gotham By Gaslight (Another Elseworlds story, with Batman in a Victorian/Edwardian era setting.)
4. A Death in the Family (classic)
5. The Laughing Fish/Sign of the Joker (classic)
6. Batman: Madness (again, it's my favorite Mad Hatter story; the other two stories included in the "Haunted Knight" anthology were okay, but this one takes the cake for me)
7. Under the Red Hood (I saw the movie before I read the story arc; I like them both quite a lot)
8. Night of the Owls (I'm glad to see the Court of Owls are steadily making their way into other media, via "Gotham" and "Batman vs. Robin.")
9. There's a recent comic series that's ongoing involving similar ideas; once it finishes, I may consider it a contender, too.)
That's almost half a list there, albeit in no particular order. XD
Awesome list! Night of the Shadow, is that the story from the 70s where Batman meets the Shadow? Haven't read it in over a decade..

Love all your video's.
You may not know much about me, but I'm a major comic book collector too with a specialty in DC. Perhaps we could do a collab video sometime?

BTW that a great list of Batman Stories and keep up the good work!
