I don't relate to neurodivergent privilege. Don't speak for me.

  • My name is Xanthe Wyse.
I have multiple psychiatric diagnoses. I have difficulty with my speech & communication (always have). I have cognitive impairments from a mental injury. Primary diagnoses are bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). I no longer identify as 'autistic' (even though a psychiatrist said I am definitely on the autism spectrum and insisted I should call myself 'neurodivergent').
I don't relate to opt-in social-political labels such as 'neurodivergent' and 'actually autistic'. More often than not with no actual impairments. It's now trendy for influencers to encourage people to identify as watered-down versions of medical diagnoses. With popular influencers seeking to alter medical definitions to just non-impairing personality traits.
There is so much generalising by very privileged influencers with high-paid careers etc. Then, people willing to attack with ad hominens etc for not conforming to the same views.
The label 'neurodivergent' is such a large soup, that it supposedly includes peope with polar opposite preferences. Group identity politics do not help me at all. Can be harmful (bullying, misinformation etc).
Also, I am a colour junkie, which I express in my art. Colour is a happy space for me. The walls of a psychiatric unit I spent an extended time in were dull and drab.
