Here is a quick and simple demonstration video on how to change the weak or dead battery in your Mazda CX 5. This process will be the same for any models that use this exact fob. You're going to want to remove the side that doesn't have the Mazda symbol by sliding the hatch and using your thumbs away from the latch. Then use the mechanical key to push the portion with the Mazda symbol outward. At this point, you have access to the battery hatch door. Open that, and replace the 2032 battery. Reverse the process to reassemble. Hope you found the video helpful!

My owners manual says 2025, thats nuts because they are too skinny and only will work every once in awhile. then on the actual fob it says 2032..... So 2032 is the bomb!! Thanks
Yikes - 2032 and 2025 are generally interchangeable but you're absolutely right that the 2025 will sometimes be too thin
yea, learned the hard way. Changed it out with a 2025, got to a restaraunt and no fob! Took a little thinking to figure it out after the second time I replaced it with another brand new 2025 and it did the same thing! Figured out if I squeezed it it would work. EPIPHANY MOMENT!! @@KeyFobRob

I still can't get the back part to pop off where the battery is! So frustrating - Honda is wayyyy easier to change the battery,.

What a great video, can't say the same for mazda technology, everything is ridiculous on this make of a car. When I was Walking in mall with fob in pants pocket it opened up the hatch accidentally. What a piece of crap. Don't break the little bugger trying to get in it. Remote starter only works if you have great internet.
Sounds like user error, since you need to be right by the vehicle for the trunk to open so walking around the mall and hitting the button won’t open the trunk.
It happened more than once. I just opened it again 50 feet from vehicle and inside my house. I open and close .
What about the keys without the release tab?
I would search a specific year for your key fob battery replacement then. That might help. Good luck
The shopping centre battery replacement guy wanted to charge me $27 to replace battery. I bought the battery for $8 and replaced myself.

This new keyfob is a step backwards from the last model. So ridiculous i can't even believe they changed a great design for this pos design. With the previous one you could slide the button and pull out the emergency key. Now you have to pop off a fragile plastic panel. Come on mazda I've owned 5 of your vehicles now since 2008. Put the old keyfob back. This is a Biden build back better version. Ugh

The initial battery ran out so quickly and even the replacement ones. Ive already replaced the battery 3 times since i bought one in August 2022.
