- Hey this is an update on the DJI ban I know a lot of you guys are concerned what is going on with this. I’ve had lots of phone calls, text messages and DM’s. This is my opinion on what this actually means for DJI.

When people always hate on cheap Chinese junk (and the hate is justified), this is like the opposite. The American drone is like the cheap Chinese junk equivalent to DJI drones.
That’s what happens when American companies sell out to China. Greed 🤦♂️
its like expensive American junk vs slightly less expensive chinese quality drones.
No question. It does still have to pass the senate and have that bill reconciled. We need to make noise.
If skydio drones are as good as DJI, I will buy them even if they are twice as expensive.
@@WetPets-gl2tsunfortunately they are half the quality at twice the price
Dang. Good traction in this video man! 🎉
Any and every drone operator should boycott skydio!
Easy to do when their products suck
@@thompsondroneworx facts, I heard 1st responders went to DJI because they tried getting a skydio drone and it took months to get it
@@TheStarflare I’m not sure on that. I was a suas pilot in the civil air patrol for 3 years. We only used skydio. The S2+ and the X2D. That X2D is awful for what the cost is. It’s ridiculous.
I can build something better than that skydio crap in my garage, dont even need to boycott.
Skydio doesn’t sell to the general public new drones.
From what I've heard, the bill is so badly worded that you CAN actually end up with drones you have already bought being grounded. Sure that probably isn't intended, but it is definitely possible. If it's something that's possible, assholes are going to try and push it through.
It might just be Profits-Over-Problems, in that if you pay up & buy all the litigation to show your drone-use has taxable-profits then you can continue using.
That’s exactly what’s going to happen they would basically make the apps unusable making the drones paper weight. This guy is misinformed
Yea I mean I sincerely hope he’s right but what others have talked about is actually being able to revoke previous FCC filings which up to this point has been unheard of. Them banning DJI as a whole and the importation of their products, which in turn would make it an expensive nightmare or impossible to get your drones serviced since they get shipped to china during that process. The drones I will be pissed about for sure but if they revoke the filings on their non drone related products I will be even more pissed about all this BS
@@Trd2020 He's not wrong. Yes, it is possible that the existing FCC licenses could be revoked even though they've never done that before, but they didn't even do that when they actually caught a mobility manufacturer spying. This is all about benefiting skydio's inferior products, and they are more interested in preventing future DJI sales, not sales that have already happened.
Thank you for making the video Mike! We are concerned about our livelihood, and we don't trust the bunch in DC to do the right thing, so it gives us a lot of anxiety. We have finally found something that will make money in rural America and they have to monkey with it. We also want to know how we can help the effort to push back.
Keep up the good work, your channel is one of the best!
Thank for the info. just bought my Avata 2!
This has been coming for 7 years, folks needed to do due diligence on this
Find a better product? There isn't one, every other company is sub par or dont sell the product all together.
Thank you for making this. It makes so much more sense now. I'll be hitting you guys up for drones and a trailer as soon as I get a Business plan and loans squared away.
When you said, 'Shut your face,' that made me laugh! So true.👍
You're spot on. This whole thing is nonsense. The NDAA's shouldn't be so easy to abuse. Then again I guess you could say that for every single bill that's ever introduced. Look I'm all for made in the USA products, but like you said, the truth is that there isn't a drone made in the USA for consumers that's worth buying. What I have a hard time understanding is from a security standpoint, DJI devices are not able to fly in no fly zones without FAA authorization already. So for the most part no DJI product is ever flying over a military base unless it's the military flying it. On the flip side, the Chinese government can go to Google Maps and find whatever we think they're looking for. I personally think this is all about banning your competition, which is why Skydio threw money at it instead using it for R&D on the Skydio3. I tried to fight it for the longest time by using Autel and Skydio drones, but excluding automated tracking where Skydio is king, nothing else comes close to anything DJI makes.
As far as security goes it could be related to what DJI have been doing in Ukraine th-cam.com/video/hCkbhvRdN24/w-d-xo.html ...
Skydio isn't adequately targeting several parts of the US drone market but I expect that if DJI gets kicked out they'll quickly start expanding into those markets. If they fail to deliver after lobbying the government to go a certain way then they're actively harming the USA's domestic capabilities.
@@ShadoFXPerino Nobody connected to the bill has ever given any actual facts as to what the "security" reasons are, because there are none.
Skydio has very publicly abandoned the consure marked, and was never a player in the cinema market, and they are completely unequipped to move into either. This was about eliminating their competitor in the enterprise market, and they don't give a shit about the impact they're having in the markets they don't play in. And they are completely unequipped to "expand into those markets" both technically and financially.
So how much support is dji going to give us since they can't sell us new products?
Yet I can guarantee you everyone lobbying for this ban is carrying a Chinese made phone with camera and mic with no issues, lol.
Haha 🤣
American logic.. We somehow cry about Chinese influence and spies.. but who the hell else is making all the circuit boards we use in all our military equipment?
So, how do they enforce this? I have the DJI Mini which is below the weight limit and does not have to be registered or licensed. How do they enforce it? Do they deactivate it with software updates? How are they planning to enforce this stupidity?
The FCC Reserves the right to revoke licensees for drone models CURRENTLY issued under this bill. That doesn't mean it will happen but you need to know all the facts.
Yeah, this guy is sugar coating it. This is really bad for DJI owners. Luckily there are other Chinese ag drones that are quality ag drones and not getting banned. Brands like XAG and TopXGun come to mind!
Might want to read the whole bill, the “ban” portion is specific to any fed .gov department from using a contractor who uses any Chinese drone.
Also worth noting DJI spends more on lobbyists than the 1.6m skydio has drooped on getting this bill past.
If I buy a DJI drone now, and the ban goes through, and I have to register my drone when i get my part 107, won't they just deny the drone registration?
Could take up to three years to go into effect
Awesome explanation thanks for the update !
You all need to stand together over there , hobbeists ,people who need these drones for work which include federal and civil organisations .And also you need to look at whos behind this bill and shout them out. Obviosly they will be getting a big back hander from some or all American drone producers !!!
GOOD LUCK from England !!
This is as I understand it as well. But my question is, is it new dji models as a whole or just new frequencys because ocusync 4 is pretty darn good so if they can keep releasing new models under the current frequency then no problem for me. Also they could go to a radio frequency that doesn't require fcc approval such as cellular service (idk if that does or not). But also the Currant models from dji are years ahead of the other companies so and really don't need any kind of upgrade any time soon.
I heard there was an air 4 coming out. I hope the ban doesn't affect it, because I was really looking forward on purchasing it.
I'm with you when it comes to American made drones. They're not there yet and won't be, even if the ban goes through. They can remove it from the bill, that's what I'm hoping for. Nothing wrong with being hopeful.
We'll just going to have to sit and wait to see what is going to happen.
Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
Nowhere in the bill does it state for "new" drones only. IF the bill passes, whether previous DJI FCC authorizations are revoked is completely at the discretion of the FCC. Everyone (and I do mean everyone) is making a HUGE assumption that previous FCC authorization will not be revoked because the FCC did not revoke any authorization when other manufacturers were added to the "covered list". Huawei seems to be the go to example given by many. In November of 2022, it was determined that the FCC has the power and authority to revoke previous FCC authorizations when an entity is added to the "covered list". IMO, IF the bill passes (and that is a BIG IF), it is a complete coin toss as to whether DJI's previous FCC authorizations are revoked or not. I am not an eternal optimist. Particularly when considering the current state of our government and its alphabet soup of agencies. After all, Congress is proposing DJI be added to the "covered list" without a single shred of evidence that DJI truly is a threat to national security.
Yo Mike, truly appreciate ur videos. Btw do you think gasoline powered drones with heavy lifting capability is another option for agriculture or deer recovery. Since one of my family friend is running such company based in China
I have a Mavic 2 pro that felt into water and I never fixed it due to the high cost of repairs. Should I go and fix it now? If the ban on new drones will keep up are those going to be worth more?
I have an Air2S that I use for business. My question is whether or not DJI will continue to support our current drones with new software updates?
I fly fpv drones. DJI makes the video transmitter and goggles. I use it because the hardware is unmatched and it provides the best experience. Even American police want to use these because they're the best. I'd buy American first but we don't even have a product.
I'm a bit tired of the US authorities trying to dictate what is right & wrong in this world
The Chinese government is to blame
@@Mr_Zimm Bullshit. Skydio is to blame.
The edition of this proposal doesn’t help or pertain to the military its sneaky as all hell. Great video dude!
Appreciate it. Very frustrating to see how companies can push money into politics that hurt Americans
Thanks for the video Mike. I’m sure I speak for many when I say it’s nice to see an update on the topic from someone that has more of an informed opinion (even it’s “I don’t know.”) than the clickbait and doom videos. Props on your success (pun intended)!
Yea and it will also stop parts and everything else you need from entering the states.
I own and fly two photography dji drones regularly, not in the traditional enterprise realm though. Here is a perspective: the powers that be have allowed the consumer and enterprise markets to mature; the later will now be taken over by 'approved' entities, the former is going to be history as the airspace is opened to...guess what...enterprise. I would suggest recognizing reality and going enterprise or just fly until you can't any more.
I think DJI has that premium feel you get on MacBook pros. Great drones
I do search and rescue. Let me just put it this way. I wouldn’t want my life to rely on a person using an American drone to find me.
What American drone then?
@@pcmggroup sorry that should have said “wouldn’t”, I just edited it. I just attend a class with folks that had American drones. Not one was able to complete a mission. They had lost of signal, poor video, crashed a lot. Honestly, It was embarrassing
DJI signal processing is legitimately incredible. It's to the point where it just almost doesn't even make sense. I don't even really fly drones.. I drive air units around on the ground. They say 5.8G doesn't penetrate anything at all really, but using DJI would have anyone scratching their heads.
I was looking forward to getting the upcoming Air 3s/air 4 but looks like that may not happen.
Approval happens LONG before product launch. Anything coming over the next few months is all good.
American drone company needs to step-up their game if they want me to buy American. With more affordable prices, of course.
Where did you get your shirt?!
A legal bribe 😂
Cheers much, for finally clearing this up, without the scaremongering 😊❤
Where I can find you guys for some course, education because I want to switch from hobbyists full work time
Shut your face!!! Love it, I share your frustration with explaining to people who just dont know. It's not their fault though, they just don't know
End of the day, if it goes through, it will be 5-10 years before they catch up...
The game of one upmanship is getting way out of hand. The Senate will make a more restrictive ban before this is over.
Anzu Robotics is Texas(a US company) partnered with DJI. Check out their new drone. Will be the answer if this law cuts fcc rights to all existing DJI drones
Keep it under a 100' and keep flying
For now. This is just the start. Follow the money to Stefanik for your answer as to why this is happening. She's hoping her 'anti-China' attitude will take her far in a possible future Trump administration. It's all about the politics.
There are options for American built drones...Build it yourself, but the software is a different story. Though it is a ban on future purchases, will stop software updates, will stop oem parts, and warranties. It can prevent sales of cameras and such as well. But DJI China can divide the company and make a US based company.
This is Elise Stefanik's gift to Trump so that he'll pick her for VP. Like her Orange Jesus, she's rotted from the inside out.
How would the American drone makers sell their crap 💩 if we don’t buy them? I love my drone and would love to hire you to help me get licensed and get another DJI drone.
Thank you. I know you guys that use T50's and stuff really need DJI. Me and my friends fly DJI mini 2's and 3's. We vid landscapes and take pics of trees and lakes. I think it would be crazy if they didn't let us do that under 400' in Colorado. 😮
Thank you Mike!
Jonathan is 100% correct. Nowhere in HR 2864 does it say that only FUTURE DJI drones will be affected. Read HR 2864 for yourself
It makes no sense to ban only new ones when old drone will continue sharing data with Chinese servers and DJI will continue sharing info with their government, if that’s the reason the congress is giving us. The lady who submit this law to congress is attached to an American drone company, this might be all about business because American drones can’t compete with Chinese “consumers” drones.
so.. you they are worried maybe because of flight log of your flying toy is maybe shared on some server somewhere, but not worried about your personal data from your smart phone (face and finger scan, 24/7 video, audio, gps, heart rate feed etc) being shared due to "terrorist act" to all "federal agencies" etc?
@@izoyt I’m not worry about mobile and drones information, my comment is about the government reason to ban DJI.
The drones cannot be connected to the Internet if the owners do not provide internet connection.
@@CN_SFY_General that’s right , let’s see what happens
@@interpoliandotv dji (chinese ) ban is simple: they dont want chinese company to make any money in states, since they dominate the market in their field (drones, evs etc). it a dumb decision, since it will have boomerang effect, all western economies relies in china production (it was their decision, to move manufacture to asia in the end).
The language allows for them to ground current DJI drones whenever. Why would anyone spend money on an expensive drone when it could be rendered useless at any point?
Because it's the only option for quality gear.
Why would anybody listen to or comply with anything the government says? That’s a better question.
That is very sad news .if the us government banned dji products that's will effect alot of youtubers who doing full time as a job on TH-cam and Instagram and on multiple social media. I hope from us government to understand that . People will lose part of their life .
if the DJI Mini 4K i just ordered from Amazon work when it gets here in a week or two if the final DJI ban bill gets it's final signature? like should i just cancel my Amazon order or what? I'm very new to drones and don't know much about bills in the senate... someone help me out here

Yes anything they make with a radio link in it
@@sUASNews I’ve been using the ronin 4d for a while, so they’re saying I can’t use it out in the field anymore?
so its a million a year company
This was done when an ambitious hack politician who will do anything to further her career combined with a company who couldn’t compete honestly and sought out said ambitious hack politician and bought her services to put DJI out of business. Just politics as usual.
FCC is creating a process to revoke existing DJI authorization, so certain types of existing drones will get affected.
Very doubtful. Source?
@@nuWayAg You don't need a source, just looked at what happened to Huawei. In the name of 'national security risks', FCC ordered removal of all Huawei equipment in the US.
This is wrong. The ban for Huawei was not outlawing existing devices sold - it was preventing the import/approval of new models. www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-63764450.amp
“Because the ban is not retroactive, the firms listed can continue to sell products previously approved for sale in the US.”

There’s lots of misinformation out there.
@@nuWayAg It happened to Hauwei, who is to say is not going to happened to DJI. They are both based on the premise of 'national security risks'.
FCC did order US telecom companies to rip out Hauwei equipment back in 2020. I did remember they get compensated for it. It was a 'rip and replace' order by FCC.
I think you are reading between the lines. The bill doesn't say it isn't retrospective.
If the US government didn't want trade with China, it should just stop now. But they can afford to not trade with china. So they pick on small companies like DJI.
DJI is a large company. They make millions of drones per year. And if you’ve been paying attention to the war in Ukraine, it’s dominated by Drones, especially DJI. What exactly are we going to do when China invades Taiwan and all our drones connect to Chinese cloud software?
@@TheAnachronist China doesn't have any need to invade Taiwan. That's the war machine priming you for war. It's been at this, on and off for 80 years.
As for Ukraine, the Russians use their own stuff and really don't have a need for a Mavic. They do however jam DJI telemetry along with 5.8 vtx.
Compared to most international companies DJI is tiny. I mean compared to companies like BP and Tesla....
Everyone should stop confusing Chinese business with the CCP. They like dislike the CCP more than anyone.
If you want to talk about companies who spy, the USA is the top player. It would be hypocritical to think DJI was spying on anyone.
H.A.N.D
@@TheAnachronist You were primed to hate Chinese by your own media. Chinese business people are not the CCP, nor do most of them like the CCP.
DJI is a small company full of smart hard working people, just like most companies in the USA.
Compared to Apple, Samsung, Costco, McDonalds, FaceBook, Google....they are tiny. However Google and Facebook spy on the US way more than any Chinese company.
Don't let the media/government steal your mind and emotions.
Buying good fully American made drones sounds hilarious. It would cost like $10,000 for a $300 DJI equivalent.
Only because there isn’t a market because China crushes the industry. Once there isn’t an alternative you just watch how fast kickstarters pop up to make American drones :P
It really isn’t that hard. The software is the main issue.
@@stevrgrs I actually do think Americans could still afford higher cost.. I mean let's say I wanted to sell hats. Maybe no one will want to buy $50 generic hats if I just absolutely needed them to be all American made. It's just a hat. If there is no other alternative then I'm sure some people would still buy them. Drones are more a niche technology that a lot of people rely on for work and entertainment so I don't really see people just outright abandoning them if the cost goes way up. I think it will just wall some people out from getting into it in the first place.
You need to speak to Lisa Ellman from Commercial Drone Alliance because she is working closely with FAA & Congress for the pure facts. The membership fee is your voice. You Government want people like you to direct your IP with them to fastrack legislation whether you like it or not they will act but you may not necessarily agree with their decisions
when China companies are doing way better in terms of quality & affordability, this will happened 😅
Joust look at the US car manufacturers, why still in 2024 they can’t offer a 100k- 10 years warranty? Because they don’t have the technology to ensure the quality of their cars but how about the price comparison? Same with the drones we in America will not produce a quality drone as other countries are and will
ya "pays" off the army 1:55 for all there orders of them lol
So for you Ag Drone Company’s, that make a living doing PA crop work, what does that mean going forward. In 5-10 years when the DJIs become out of date will you be just stuck with the US market of drones. That’s sounds very very unreasonable, think they should have attacked it differently!
Why don't the US just make all DJI products in the US all US majority owned. Just like how the Chinese government owns the majority of the Disney Parks in their country. Or, am I stupid to think this?
I think we lost WWIII.
That's pretty much what Anzu is doing.
Anzu is an American company that purchased a license for DJI hardware technology, they are assembling the drones in Malaysia and putting American software on them so there's no connection to dji or China.
The alleged threat of data leakage is gone with this arrangement.
At this time Anzu is only producing the Mavic 3E and T. The new name for those Anzu drones is Raptor.
Because DJI/China doesn’t want that.
How about nothing for the U.S consumer market. You know because you sanction countries you disagree with. Maybe it's good that finally you'll be deprived of new technology. Better beg Skydio for drones if they even have any for the consumer market.
Black market white box 📦 and no support is the future 😢
Sensationalist 😂
This is incorrect. The DJI ban will apply to anything using the dji frequencies. The software will stop GPS from working with the dji software.
DJI drones use 2.4 mHz right? So we want to ban all 2.4 mhz? That means ban all wifi? which also is 2.4mhz?
@Lolpopi8547 you don't understand what a frequency is vs a band. Its ok. YT will help you.
@@Mr_Zimm Lol sounds like you don't even know what "frequency" is 🤡
@Lolpopi8547 the FAA is banning all radio frequencies used by DJI and blocking DJI access to GPS. This has absolutely nothing in common with your wireless home networks.
@@Mr_Zimm You have absolutely no idea how radio waves work do you? And obviously have no idea how GPS works either. Why do you think drones get better range when you are in the middle of nowhere vs in town? Because theres more interference from wifi and other wireless communications since they all occupy the same frequency bands. 🤦🤦🤦🤦
02:20 agree 💯% 👍
The same people buy all the same cheap Chinese junk on Amazon in a blink of an eye! DJI is the leader in drones. I don’t want to give mine up!
Exactly!!
I've been online researching many different drone brands on the internet, and I can't find a single one that is 100 percent American made that sells to the consumer public. Skydio for example. They make decent drones, from what I've seen and read, but they don't sell the general public. I looked at many different drones sold on Amazon (not DJI) that range in price from 60 dollars to 400 dollars, and they are all made by a Chinese company. That being said, if they did ground every Chinese drone in existence in this country, then there would be absolutely no other options. If there are any 100 percent American made drones sold in this country that sell to the general public, I have yet to find them. Someone let me know if there are any.
You won’t find any
don't put it through a woodchopper , sell it to me in Canada for a very cheap price lol
Skydio brought to you by Mattel lol
When you can buy an American drone that’s as good as DJI drones at the same price I will listen, but don’t try to sell BS or very expensive drones and expect to sell them!
Like I always said money talks and bull shit walks .
So.....cell phones and other electronics aren't a risk? I'm not listening to crowns who can't even get their shit together within house!
If they don't get banned ima get an avanta
Get it anyway. May immediately make it worth less. But there will be hacks that you’ll get around whatever bs they put on us. Then it’ll be worth double
T800? Uh oh 😬
It's not that there isn't a good american alternative, there isn't any american alternative.
I have a Hylio and love it. The company is great to work with too. I personally choose to not do business with Chinese companies. What kind of information are they collecting? Nobody ever talks about that. At least with Hylio, I know the information is sent to Texas. That makes me feel better than my information being sent overseas.
You'll stay behind as the US doesn't allow military tech to slip down into commercial applications like other nations. Though don't ask the US to track where their court-guarded thermal drone-cameras end up.
I agree with your concern but there has been 8 different audits on DJI and not a single one was able to find any proof that DJI was taking information and storing it in their servers unless you voluntarily opt into it.
Better get rid of your iphone, android, security camera, laptop computer, and every other piece of software technology that is produced by China
The difficulty in getting ahold of someone at hylio kept me from going with them. And the only ppl I know spraying HUGE acres are all running XAG. I curious when DJI will increase their speed
There's no more information the DJI drones are collecting that's not already accessible to the public through apps like OnX, Google Maps, Land ID, Land Glide, or any other land-based app on the market today. I can look up land boundaries, owners, and any information that land offers. The information is already out there. This DJI ban is just being pushed because of a political agenda. Nothing more, nothing less. Unfortunately, they effect America based companies that employee 1000s of workers and use DJI every day.
Congress ppl want to make $$ on stocks for us drone company
I been seeing that it would brick your drone. I think you are incorrect. Stop spreading misinformation
Saying its by lobbyists and about market share is disingenuous at a minimum. It's more about China's ability to collect data and how they will use it.
Then throw away your phone! Much more data on that, then what a drone is capturing. Man google earth has the same info! Also, DJI just removed data sharing last week making the whole argument that they are collecting our data and giving it to the government a worthless argument to ban them.
Heh. Is there any proof of this? Do you know who is pushing the bill? Have you done any research at all?
If i buy a new drone from you will you refund me if you're wrong and we are not able to use them? Serious question, im getting licensed now
Just don't buy the American skydio etc drones.
Hands down it the best!!! Period!
I have a tough time believing lobbyists would pursue legislation, based in any way on the fact that it would increase market share for our American manufacturing. I believe this might have more to do with national security than anything else.
lol. You have been fooled, then. Really, you can't connect the dots here? Or did I not sniff out the lite sarcasm?
Its funny how us dictates what people can by .. i thought that was a china thing
😁
Dji could move it’s company to America due to this
Ya, let our FBI work there just like their Government does to the companies over there.
They won't. The CCP would NEVER allow one of its most successful homegrown companies to up and move to America. They will just license to a company to build them outside China as a different brand (like the Specta Air and Anzu Raptor) and then that company will sell them in the US. The only way that happens is if DJI sells the entire company to an American corporation and that will never happen. It's far too valuable in both the revenue it generates and the morale of China in having something that is truly superior to everything else on the market. The US market is ultimately a drop in the bucket for DJI when they basically own the entire consumer market globally.
I think DJI should make a branch of their company in the US. Simply rename the drone and sell these to US residents. Problem solved.

Ill buy American when American builds good stuff wish they don't
Americans are capable of building some of the best there is.. We just don't do it because it's a waste of time. We can't compete in any market when it comes to cost. We demand to be paid too much for all the work we do across the board. The American manufacturing dream is literally lost due to American payroll, go figure that.
