    Very interesting. Moved to Axminster area in 1979. Can still remember the old station in Uplyme and when some of the bridges got demolished> its a real shame now when you look back !

    I remember that we went on a family holiday to Lyme Regis, probably in Summer 1965 as the station closed in November of that year so it couldn't have been later. I was very young and it was a long time ago but can remember when boarding the train at Waterloo us being told to change at Yeovil and Axminster and waiting for the connection on Yeovil station.

    Very interesting and succinct video. I am glad you mentioned the bus service at Axminster which shows there is a public transport solution in place now. I drove to Lyme Regis years ago in the summer and car parking there was a nightmare. I can see a problem with reopening the station as its up a hill and not near the coast. The idea of a walk or cycle path along the viaduct looks appealing and at 6 miles could be doable from Axminster.

    I thought the Adams Radial Tank was the usual locomotive for this line until replaced by BR Standard, even GWR Pannier tanks in its last days. Didn’t think Terriers were used on the line

      Yep I don't think Terrier loco ever saw the route it was Adams Radials only one on the Blue Bell I think left out of 2 for most of the line then 3 after WW2.

      @@Thunderer0872Hi, I thought they tried one but it buckled the tight curved track and twisted the loco’s chassis too!? So they later tweaked the track to accommodate a similar and bigger loco later as the Adam’s were pensioned off approaching being a century old! Cheers

    Another interesting exploration! Since the resurrection of this line as a railway seems very unlikely, it might be good to use the track bed and viaduct as a useful walking/cycling path which would be picturesque and a less hilly means of linking the two towns than the existing lanes and paths.

    Lovely video of a very scenic branch line. I often traveled on that line as a child. great memories!

    A very interesting explore. Any idea if Sustrans might be looking at this old line as a possible recreational trail? I’ve got a couple of old lines in my patch that may well become Greenways in the future. Subscribed!🙂👍

    For years now, I've wanted to visit that viaduct, but my dream is beginning to fade. Now I'm 82 and no longer drive, I have to rely on people such as yourself to fill in the gaps.

      From a tourism point of view it would be wonderful today, but…….too late now! Cycle track etc, possibly and that might give enthusiasts a nostalgic feel! Cheers
