I live in Brussels. I was born in Bruges. Your introduction was very informative, even for a local. 👍 Well done. You have Belgium's seal of approval. 🇧🇪 😊
Thank you for putting my adoption city in the spotlights 🥰 I live in Brussels since a long time now and it is full of hidden gems unknown by the tourists. The most exquisite part of Brussels is the multicultural way of living. Thanks to the EU Commission and the NATO HQs, Brussels counts a lot of different nationalities, cultures and languages. And it is amazing to be able to mingle all together in one city which only count 1M citizens. Brussels is also one of the most green cities in the world thanks to the numerous parcs and even 2 forests in the city. I can only encourage everyone to come and taste the Brussels’ way of living, culture and gastronomy ♥️
Multiculturalism is killing my Belgian culture, nothing good about that. Even our traditions are getting canceled.... I will be leaving the country, thx to the politicians and the way to much immigrants who are flooding the country, i am already a minority in my own City!
Hi Jason! This was very fun! Belgium is definitely a country I want to visit! I love the HUMOR of the popularity of 'Mannequin Piss' and don't think it's overrated at all! I like the way you couched it as a 'contrast' to the sophistication and 'seriousness' that Brussels also is. Those contrasting elements of the city actually make it even more interesting to me! Cheers!
The HUMOR is indeed why everyone loves him. The only problem with manneken pis (i'm from Brussels) is that most visitors imagine the statue to be much larger than it actually is. This is because the pictures always make him seem a lot bigger. In addition there are always many people crowded around the statue. It probably also doesn't help that shops in the city centre sometimes have copies of manneken piss about 10 times as big as the real statue. All in all manneken pis has been a dissapointment to almost every single one of my friends and family members who have visited Brussels. The Atomium, the Mont des arts, the Grand Place, Parc du Cinquantenaire, the ''marollen'' are all much more exciting tourist attractions. Manneken pis is the type of thing to tick of your list, watch for 20 seconds until you get bored, then move on.

Brussels is good (especially the Grand Place is one of the best town squares in the world and Atomium is unique) but I think that other Belgian destinations are very underrated in tourist marketing (except for Brugge that is really a fairy-tale town). When I was in Belgium this year, I enjoyed very much Ghent (Gravensteen, Graslei and St. Bavo Church are amazing), Antwerp (Rubenshuis is one of the most amazing art sights anywhere and I loved some Dutch-liked alleys in the old part of the town near Schelde River and Het Steen), Dinos in the Sand exhibition of sand sculptures in Middelkerke on North Sea coast (it is only 20 mins with tram from Oostende train station), Mechelen and Leuven. Belgian railway system is one of the best in the world, I liked it very much. An awesome video, Jason! I really enjoyed this little tour of Brussels! The sights, the sounds and the food...especially those frits and mussels with beer! The Grand Place is beautiful! Glad you got to take in a football game! My only connection to Belgium is my grandfathers connection...he served there during the First World War. Hoping to see it myself when, someday, I go to Vimy Ridge in France and Germany, where we lived when I was a child as my Dad served there during the Cold War as part of Canada's RCAF agreement with NATO. Thanks for this, I am so glad you visited Brussels!😊
We landed @ airport, metro & trained it to our stay near the grand plaza! Very cool buildings, interesting how they turn old buildings into hotels, iPhone accessory store, etc.
Love the football content addition. You cover everything in most videos, food, drink, attractions, hidden treasures but sport was always missing! Keep it up 👍🏼
You should definitely visit other belgian cities like Brugges, Antwerp, Gent, Belgian Ardennes (countryside) and Namur or Liège for a Wallonian city. What's great is that you could visit the whole country in a week or less, it's small but very diverse
I have a little personal anecdote concerning the famous "Mannequin piss" when I visited Brussels decades ago.Arrived by train and then checked in to what seemed a nice hotel.Later in the day started to wander around the city looking for the statue without any success.Eventually returned to my hotel to discover it was virtually next to my hotel and i had failed to see it.!
Hi Jason you should come in Liège it's small and beautiful city in Belgium , many interesting places to see , I can show you around for the places to visit/ eat ect ...
I was thinking the same thing. We can't relate to his videos lately because the places that he visits are not the places that we as travelers want to visit.
Brussels is way more than just the touristy city center. Ste Catherine, the canal, les Marolles, St Gilles, Ixelles, Forest, Schaerbeek, Etterbeek (to name a few great places) and all of the parks (Duden, Forest, Lacambre, Cinquantenaire, Josaphat, Laeken...), that's Brussels too. Not just the Grand Place and the European neighbourhood...
Welcome to my home country of Belgium Jason! Manneken Pis, aside from being a symbol for the typical Brussels "defiant spirit" has also become a true symbol of what we call "Belgitude". It is hard to explain, but is something in the realm of the Absurd, where you expect something grand and it is actually laughable, and is a reflection of our spirit as Belgians (we tend to not take ourselves too seriously as a "Nation")
I was in Brussels a couple months ago on a quick vacation. I got around the tourist crowds by going out at sunrise. Sadly, I am too old to enjoy the nightlife 😂 Thank you for your content.
The Grand Place - please can we get the local accent - is fantastic at Christmas. The Rue des Bouchers is brilliant for food. Rural Belgium in the Ardennes is wonderful as are the cities of Liege, Leuven and Ghent.

Brussels is the only city in Europe I've been to that I felt genuinely unsafe. Parts of it are really nice but a lot of it is very grubby and unpleasant. Ghent and Antwerp were a lot more interesting to me.
We loved Brussels in January. Because they kept all the decorations up later. And the square was beautiful. We only had a few days and you just know that there is so much more to it. I was also deeply sad that we were leaving Europe. And I felt shame when people in the bars and restaurants asked us why? I am still European. Thanks to My Mum Irish born.
