I have 2 of these big buddy heaters and they both run fine on a single tank. I always use the single tank on the control side of the heater. Low is what I normally run and each heater works flawlessly on a single 1 pound tank.

I have several buddy heaters, they’re great. I’m sitting outside with my buddy heater right now, watching videos and enjoying a cigar. Thanks for the video Kevin, be well my friend.

Mr Heater manual for the Big Buddy states in bold type on page 5, two one pound propane bottles are needed to use heater in " HI " position.

I definitely wouldn’t suggest running with one tank. It’s designed for 2. I think your right on the pressure Ken! Thanks for sharing ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼

Yeah, I think you are right Kevin, the tank would go quick, but even on high with one tank, is probably equivelent to low or medium with 2 tanks, due to pressure. I have a little buddy, so I am not sure. Do you have an infrared thermometer, you could do a video with one tank versus 2 tanks on high, I would bet 2 tanks are hotter, because it`s pushing more pressurized gas, just a thought, Happy New Year to you and Julie.

if you have two tanks, but only run on low/med, does the buddy use all the first tank and then pull from the second when the first is out?

It may have to do with where you buy the little tank. I have noticed that tanks from the Family Dollar or such stores are not completely full. I wouldn't be surprised if they may have lower pressure too.

I have 2 Big Buddy heaters and they both work on 1 tank. They work on low and medium but not high. That's how the instruction manual says they should work. To me something is wrong with yours

    Hi awesome video .
Can i run 20 lb tank on 1 side for both burrners?

  • @carmenmariacortesmarin2664

Seems like each side runs separately. If you use a 20lb tank, would you have to have one on each side for efficiency?

Mine works fine in all setting low, med or high with just one tank.

How in the heck did you get it to run on HIGH with only one 1# bottle on the left side ? I’ve never seen that happen before. On a single 20 # … yes. You want the big 20# cylinder on the pilot side . I’ve had to add a 1# on the right side to get the pilot to stay on before … once it worked … another time it drained the 1# on the right side and still went out obviously not drawing from the big tank on the left (pilot) side. I removed the 1# and tried again with just the 20 # cylinder … I did not even turn the tank off and slowly open again … this time the pilot stayed lit and would finally stay on when turned on low without going out completely including the pilot . After that happened a couple times I would quickly go from LOW to MEDIUM and that seemed to get the gas flowing enough to turn on high and then back down to low no problem . Remember the pilot must be lit long enough to heat the thermocoupler . I know sometimes the 20# cylinders can have a problem with low pressure . Trial and error … always use extreme caution and don’t take chances. Keep 20# cylinders outside always . You need that bit of ventilation in most situations anyway . I’ve seen comments say after having problems with the 20# change over keeping it lit … they would run 2 new 1# bottles through it and then the 20# would light again . I have not had to try that yet. I’d say keep a few of the new 1# bottles on hand just in case. No … I do not have a regulator on the tank end and no I have not used the “quick connect” which WOULD need the Mr. Heater hose with the regulator on the tank end. I don’t because then there is no filter and even with the correct Mr. Heater hose because I’m convinced there other contaminants in the fuel and tanks both not just the hose . Always use the filter … 1# bottles fit on the filter too ! You just can’t close the plastic doors on the side but that is not a problem . I gave up on trying a 20# cylinder on both sides … that’s how I discovered adding a 1# bottle to the right side saved me a couple times. I’m doing this on 2 different styles of the Big Buddy heater . The Red … and the Green (which requires ONE AAA battery to use the pilot light . (Still I’ve never seen one small bottle run both sides from the pilot side ! ) I have not experimented with/ larger tanks than 20# … that’s all the manual says use. It’s 2024… any update ? Good luck everyone . 🍀 🔥👍

So if you turn off the heater and leave the propane tanks screwed in, is it still expelling propane while the heater is turned off?

    • @Robinson-Homestead

it would be like turning the gas off on your kitchen range.

I don’t know anything about gas stoves. I’m new to all this. But do you leave the tank in or take it out? Also, how do you know when it’s empty? Thanks !

      @ozarksliving1927 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Julie-sm9mq yeah I didn't get a clear answer. But I do not think it's any problem if you leave the tank screwed in.. yet it may deplete the propane inside of the tank and if you have something which may possibly spark near by it clearly could cause an ignition. My final thoughts is its okay, just be careful

It doesn’t. That’s why I have been searching the internet. But there does seem to be a lot of answers to questions not asked. Maybe the others were not worded clearly. ALL it says is that 2 are needed to run on high.

Clean the venturi. That's the little brass tube where the pilot light emits from. Actually a ladies mascara brush does a pretty handy job of cleaning it. And if you are using a 20lb tank, ensure that you use an inline filter.
