      What he meant to say was *I've eaten it before...at a fraction of the price. This is comfort food, aka some of the cheapest eats you'll find in any chinatown. Just looks for roast pork and ducks hung on hooks in the windows. When you make food for hipsters...you charge hipster prices and they'll thank you for giving them "higher quality". Just a facade.

    Well, being a lover of Cantonese cuisine, I have to say that this is not the traditional way Char Shu is prepared and yet they have the traditional BBQ Box found in 99% of the Chinese restaurant kitchens? I know because I use to design them. Normally it is a slow process at 350 in a BBQ Box that holds the pork on rods over a gas fired ring burner at the bottom of the box. The duck preparation is close enough to perfect albeit they are not separating the skin from the flesh with the use of pumped in air. They are using pork butt for the Char Shu and that's the best combination of flesh to fat. Why the Chimichura type topping? Porkchetta? In traditional Hong Kong BBQ places it is done differently.

    • @RockstarEater
      @RockstarEater 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say compared to SGV, it's about the same, so it probably wouldn't be worth the drive. But if you are in DTLA and are looking for something similar, it's worth a try. I went here two months ago to do a shoot, and it was better than I thought.

    lol, this is not the only restaurant in LA that makes cantonese food or cantonese BBQ, we have places like this all over LA. The San Gabriel Valley, Monterey Park, Alhambra, Arcadia, Temple City they are on every street corner, lol. Many non-Chinese don't seem to be aware of the massive Chinese immigrant community of multiple generations that lives in the area. The prices can be much cheaper than this place but also more expensive in the fancy restaurants that serve banquets. The quality can be better or worse than this with live seafood in many places cooked to perfection. The waiters in the fancier places even wear tuxedos. If you think that duck is awesome, try peking duck, not sure if that's cantonese but it's awesome or bbq duck like that is available in a lot of places 7 days a week. In downtown there are places in China town, but ultimately SGV is not that far from there.
