I left Denmark in 2021 to pursue my dream of full time content creation - My family (including my mom) is still back home waiting for me to return one day. “I took too long, I ventured too far” was just too much for me to hear resulting in me getting super emotional. However, the support you guys are showing me on TH-cam and on Patreon gives me confidence that it’s all worth it. From the bottom of my heart: Thank you. ♥️
I lost my grandmother in June of last year. I always thought she would live forever, so being on the opposite side of the country to the rest of my family wasn't that big of a deal so long as I could call and visit every now and again. I kept putting off calling because life and kids were keeping me busy, and once my daughter started school I couldn't just visit whenever I felt like it anymore, but when my dad called to tell me that she was fading and doctors gave her less than a month I immediately booked a flight to go see her exactly one week later. She died that very same night, and I have been kicking myself silly every day since then for thinking it could wait a week instead of going immediately. The "I took too long, and ventured too far" line really felt like a bullet to the gut the first time I heard it.
Those lines made me bawl. I've been struggling with deep mental health issues and suicidality, and the idea of "venturing too far", of my mother waiting for a son that will never come home, has helped me immensely. I love this song
I moved from my home country to the US, in 2009. Always intended to return but haven’t since. My grandma is still back there, and we talk every day, but yeah… Odysseus mom’s lines reduce me to a balling mess every time. Jorge… knows how to gut punch
Allow me to make it even worse: In the Odysee, Odyssius tries to embrace his mother three times while he was in the underworld, but he couldn't grasp her, since she was dead and he was living.
I showed epic to my friend and when I said “The first song in the underworld saga is called the underworld” her immediate response was “Well that's creative”
I'd break. Especially if I thought it was my fault that I wasnt there. I'd become a monster to spare myself the pain. There'd be no way I could withstand that level of emotional damage.
Fun fact: In some tellings, Odysseus and his crew were right within sight of Ithica when the storm hit, when the bag was opened, and his mother thought him dead. In her grief, she waded into the water and drowned. Also new saga comes out on fourth of july!
Its also why a popular fan theory for epic the musical is that the lotus eaters gave him a proper burial since it doesnt seem he was like the other men and was more like odysseus mother

And they take his ridiculous death very seriously, promising him a proper burial when they meet him in the Underworld.
Come to think of it, he’s probably the only one who got a proper burial. The others were all eaten by monsters or killed by gods leaving their bodies in the sea.
Fun fact, the melody that plays while Anticlea (Odysseus' mom) is singing is Odysseus' riff, but played in major instead of minor, and on a piano instead of a guitar.
some Greek myth underworld trivia; if someone didn't receive the proper funerary rights, with a coin for Charon, they would not receive passage into the underworld. and they would have to wait 100 years before gaining passage. so yeah, you were right, Polites and the victims of the Cyclops, the guys who died to Poseidon in Ruthlessness, and Elpinor I suppose, won't be passing on for quite some time, stuck in the water; waiting
In the Odyssey, Elpinor does get a proper burial. After Odysseus visits the underworld. Even though he couldn’t see Odysseus, he knew he’d be there and asked for a proper burial. Odysseus and his remaining crew went back and gave Elpinor his wish. I have no idea why his death was even in the Odyssey. What was the message? Don’t get drunk and go on roofs? 😂
@@TheBre1491Maybe like he’s there to show that Odysseus isn’t completely without heart for his men after losing so many??? Or show its not always fault idk. I know greek myths represented stuff that was true so like maybe dying from getting drunk on rooftops was common? 🤪
@@Chikararyoku funny enough, he did not instantly, so his last thoughts were of him begging his captain to give a proper burial even though he died a shameful death, and he was the First-person Odysseus sees in the underworld.
I think the most painful thing about Anticlea being included in this is that if it weren't for them encountering Polyphemus, they wouldn't have had a decade added to their journey, and Odysseus may very well have made it back in time.
Yeah but it's been only ten by this point hasn't it? He didn't know in the ten years he's been at war, his mom passed. There's still a lot more journey ahead of this song (although it's not like Odysseus knows getting home will take another decade)
It actually was 10 years, I believe that in the original story, the next ten years are spent on the island with calypso. He also originally spent a year at circes island just chilling.
At this point it’s still around 10-13, he stays on Circes island for a bit of a breather, and then gets stuck on calipos’s island even longer. It’s 20 by the time he actually gets home.
19:40 what makes it worse is that Odysseus was practically home, right there at Ithaca with the fleet. But then they opened the wind bag and the fleet was brought away. Anticlea, Odysseus' mom saw this and thought the fleet was destroyed and her son was killed. So, distraught, she... suicided
Here is a real life thing that i thought when i learned that the creator of epic's mother voiced the main characters mom as well. Its that he will look back on this song to hear his mother's voice after she passes.

honestly, ive never heard a song that embodies grief at a funeral so well. i dont know if its the same for other people but at the funerals of people ive cared about it was the weight of past remembered that crushed me. like a tidal wave pursuing me and crashing down every time i closed my eyes. this song gets to me every time i listen to it, the punch punch punch or his crew his friend and his mother getting more and more personal... damn.
Recently I've been seeing animations where polites is holding the baby when singing his part in underworld, so with it being set in a lower tone it's as if he's singing the baby a lullaby 😭
So far, all of his defeats have been set backs, things he can recover from. His men opening the bag? Terrible, but it just delays them. Losing some to cyclops? Terrible, but they are soldiers in war, they expected some losses. Even ruthlessness, 43 left under your command, devastating moment, but they can still return home, and returning home is the win condition. But this? Is mom is gone. This time, the loss is a permanent detractor from the win state. Its not a set back, its not something to brave through. He took too long and lost his mom.
21:33 This part is so powerful that I was doing exactly what Mortius was doing, and I barely paid attention to the animatic. You can FEEL the anguish in Odysseus.
Okay but I legitimately thought about whether the song "Just a Man"'s chorus is just a riddle to that question with the "When does a comet become a meteor? When does a candle become a blaze? When does a ripple become a tidal wave? When does the reason become the blame? When does a man become a monster?" I haven't found a perfect answer though, the best I could come up with is "When they fall", but I’m not sure that necessarily fits with the ripple-tidal wave/ reason-blame part. So I am curios if that will get a clear answer or not

What hurts about this song is around the time of this recording my brother died on a Tuesday.. my father and I were actually on the highway to visit him in physio. we had no idea that his heart was so bad. the week prior he thought it was our scheduled visit and was frustrated with us for not coming, but we couldnt get down even if we wanted to. We scheduled every two weeks. and we were only 20 minutes too late. So he was waiting. he knew we were coming, probably just felt tired and decided to rest a bit until we came to visit..
As I’ve gotten more and more into Epic the music, the underworld is the one song that I think consistently brings me to tears every time. First with Polite’s and then his mom drives it home, every fricking time
Casper's face, when heard Polites voice, made me tear up some, the underworld saga is the shortest saga in Epic, but I think it's one of the best also I think that it's one of the most important, since it's the transition to the next saga's and the newly resolved Odysseus. Also it's one of my personal favorites.
I love how in this full speed ahead part he calls his men his comrades while in the first song he called them his friends. You can see the lost trust in there after they messed up with the bag.
I literally haven't cried since survive and then this happened. I'm not okay I need a hug. Also! Fun fact about Elpenor: every single song he's in has been cut except for the ones where he blends in with the crew.
Idk if this makes things happier or sadder but in the Odyssey, Odysseus gets to speak with the ghosts more than it shows in this song. Yes his mother is there in the original as well but he's able to have a conversation with her. Though it does also lead to a moment where he tries to hug her but can't and she has to explain to him that dead people don't have physical forms and thus can't touch the living. (Bonus fact: A similar scene happens in the Iliad between Achilles and the ghost of Patroclus)
When listening to the Underworld saga for the first time I was expecting the last two songs to be my favourites. I was not expecting this to be the song that would stay with me the most 🥲 But this song is just so good! The line "I took too long" absolutely breaks me... Amazing reaction as always!
I absolutely lost it when watching this reaction. I held up strong when listening and watching the animatic the first time. I’m still crying right now. I can’t.
The fact that you don’t even need the animatic to understand that ody is so shocked and overjoyed to hear his mom’s voice that he forgets where he is and why he can hear her. Then the monomer of “I took too long” where it hits him, I cry every time I hear it cause of how heart breaking it is.
I watched the animatic and listened to the song already. But freaking Mortius over here with his analysis and facts just broke my heart. I legitimately started sobbing 😭
Who wants to see a video where two grown men cry at the same time? Don't worry, most of us, even those who watched/heard the song millions of times joined it. You aren't alone.
i am right there with you two…..watching this reaction has effectively brought me to tears once again over the underworld AFTER ALREADY HAVING BAWLED MY EYES OUT OVER IT MULTIPLE TIMES.
i’m hearing the underworld saga for the first time with casper, and have not read the odyssey. i lost my mom about a month ago, and hearing odysseus’ mom in the underworld packed a PUNCH, lemme tell you that. jorge is too good at what he does. anyways back to lurking, it’s such a joy to get to watch these with yall
16:20 just so you're fully aware Casper everyone who dies good or evil ends at the underworld because the underworld is actually just the afterlife there is the good part the meh part and the evil part! So he is supposed to be there and he's probably living in the good part usually if you want to think of it that way another reason for why he's not trapped in the River Styx usually when people are trapped in the River Styx or can't get to the actual afterlife it's because they couldn't pay their way to get into the Afterlife he seems to be fine! But if he wasn't given the proper payment to get past all he has to do is wait 100 years which it seems like he's perfectly fine with!

Odysseus and his remaining crew went back and gave Elpinor his wish. I have no idea why his death was even in the Odyssey. What was the message? Don’t get drunk and go on roofs? 😂
@@TheBre1491 than the reason we don't see him is because he's on Charon's boat
@@TheBre1491Maybe like he’s there to show that Odysseus isn’t completely without heart for his men after losing so many??? Or show its not always fault idk. I know greek myths represented stuff that was true so like maybe dying from getting drunk on rooftops was common? 🤪
@@Chikararyoku
funny enough, he did not instantly, so his last thoughts were of him begging his captain to give a proper burial even though he died a shameful death, and he was the First-person Odysseus sees in the underworld.
"600 men lost by my command." NO! THAT IS SOMEHOW EVEN MORE PAINFUL THAN THE ENTIRETY OF UNDERWORLD SAGA!
Seeing this now after Vengeance saga is...😊
And now we are ALL waaiiiiting!!
I think the most painful thing about Anticlea being included in this is that if it weren't for them encountering Polyphemus, they wouldn't have had a decade added to their journey, and Odysseus may very well have made it back in time.
The hurt in the polites is just makes me feel so hurt and polites being there makes me cry
🥲
Editor Hades f#cking killed me!😂 then Caspers Full Speed Ahead made me cry😢
Bro is not ready for the emotional damage to slap back into his face.
So fun fact. Odysseus was NOT away from home for 10 years. He was away for 20. The Trojan War lasted 10 years.
It's a spoiler for them as it's only 12 years (in the underworld saga), can you please delete the comment?
2 years on circe's island and 7 years on Calypso's, with 1 year of miscellaneous bs.@@mylespiper5561
At this point it’s still around 10-13, he stays on Circes island for a bit of a breather, and then gets stuck on calipos’s island even longer. It’s 20 by the time he actually gets home.
My favourite pancake topping is another pancake.

Oh my god you made it more painfully
Me: Balling my eyes out
my cat: pet me please and stop fucking crying
maybe you can show ur cat epic just like Mortius did with me
@@CFEntertains i have and he just puts his butt up in My face because i either am to happy or crying to much🥲
But hey i showed it to My dad and he Said it was a little funny because he likes The Old classic danish Music but i take it
This is how cats show emotional support 😅
😂
The lyrics that Odysseus mom sang can also be given to Odysseus dog
As his dog had been waiting and waiting for his owner to return and he is still waiting at this moment in the musical but time is running out as age is catching up to the dog who is still waiting and hoping for his owners safe return
And now I made myself sad
Nahhh... Not the dog 😭
Not Argos! The poor good boy!
Minecraft dogs be like
According to the Odyssey, Argos does get to meet his owner, but stay only to recognize him😢
Hi all in case you are new here please do not post spoilers for vengeance Casper is away at the moment and has not reacted any spoilers will be deleted without warning and if it continues you will be timed out, please keep Casper free from spoilers
I appreciate that you care about this dearly but this Is like 6 months old 😭
@ and yet we deleted 100 message with spoilers from here
honestly, ive never heard a song that embodies grief at a funeral so well.
i dont know if its the same for other people but at the funerals of people ive cared about it was the weight of past remembered that crushed me. like a tidal wave pursuing me and crashing down every time i closed my eyes.
this song gets to me every time i listen to it, the punch punch punch or his crew his friend and his mother getting more and more personal... damn.
You guys should totally react to an animatic of Elpenor's cut song.
Also the "alternate version" of Monster 😉
I hope they do, it's the best song ever
Of course the premiere is the exact time of my doctors appointment lol
The video will be here when you’re finished, hope your app goes well 🫶
Recently I've been seeing animations where polites is holding the baby when singing his part in underworld, so with it being set in a lower tone it's as if he's singing the baby a lullaby 😭
Don’t worry, I think everyone cried while listening to The Underworld
Imagine this song in the actual theatres. This wil destroy people
4:58 CRAZY ACCIDENTAL PREDICTION FOR DANGEROUS IN THE VENGEANCE SAGA WHAT
14:30 And if you look to your right you will see what a heartbroken man looks like
Jorge with this saga: prepare to learn tears buddy
21:33 This part is so powerful that I was doing exactly what Mortius was doing, and I barely paid attention to the animatic. You can FEEL the anguish in Odysseus.
Me too! The power in Jorge's voice in that part is just amazing
The momma part will never not make me cry but it’s always enjoyable to watch people go through the emotional roller coaster.
I have no idea how I initially missed this video, but that little Full Speed Ahead Reprise you made is phenomenal
This song actually made me cry. I don't cry often with musicals.. but Epic has defied everything I've thought about musicals.
so when DOES a man become a monster?
when he invites you to watch a life-changing musical then smiles as your favorite character is killed right in front of you
@@CFEntertains fair.
Hahahaha 😂😂😂
Okay but I legitimately thought about whether the song "Just a Man"'s chorus is just a riddle to that question with the
"When does a comet become a meteor?
When does a candle become a blaze?
When does a ripple become a tidal wave?
When does the reason become the blame?
When does a man become a monster?"
I haven't found a perfect answer though, the best I could come up with is "When they fall", but I’m not sure that necessarily fits with the ripple-tidal wave/ reason-blame part. So I am curios if that will get a clear answer or not
@@seeschwalbe OooooOOOOoooo! I like it

18:25 OK DAMN, MORTIUS CRYING MADE ME CRY!
I was GOING THROUGH IT
@@officialmortius as did I. I couldn't listen to the song again in hours (i was crying) and got genuine anxiety because of the mother part. I litterally sat in bed and cried for like 3 hours trying to listen to that song but thought of my mother instead. It HURT!
Also great that i first heard the song on a crammed BUS!
me, sobbing throughout this whole video like a normal person
jay dropping the most random hilarious spoiler-ish vid abt thunder saga: 💃🕺💃
me, still sobbing : ... what
dude. caspers little full speed ahead reprise with the lyrics was almost identical to a MUCH later song in the vengeance saga which I'm not sure has been reacted to yet seeing as I'm going in order but wow, they think the prediction was accurate here wait until they get to vengeance saga if they remember that little prediction when they get to it.
During the yt short Jorge made around Mother's day, he actually confirms Odysseus' mom is voiced by Jorge's Mother
God Anticlea's part gets me every time. It just. Hits a specific, personal nerve.
I love how in this full speed ahead part he calls his men his comrades while in the first song he called them his friends. You can see the lost trust in there after they messed up with the bag.
I love how you can see the dead souls swirling in the cyclops' eye
I literally haven't cried since survive and then this happened. I'm not okay I need a hug.
Also! Fun fact about Elpenor: every single song he's in has been cut except for the ones where he blends in with the crew.
18:05 "Are you sure?" Mortius, are _YOU_ ready?
Idk if this makes things happier or sadder but in the Odyssey, Odysseus gets to speak with the ghosts more than it shows in this song. Yes his mother is there in the original as well but he's able to have a conversation with her. Though it does also lead to a moment where he tries to hug her but can't and she has to explain to him that dead people don't have physical forms and thus can't touch the living. (Bonus fact: A similar scene happens in the Iliad between Achilles and the ghost of Patroclus)
Elpenor punching the air rn
When listening to the Underworld saga for the first time I was expecting the last two songs to be my favourites. I was not expecting this to be the song that would stay with me the most 🥲 But this song is just so good! The line "I took too long" absolutely breaks me...
Amazing reaction as always!
I fully expect your reaction to Monster to be 1h+ long lmao
The issue of "The Underworld" vs. "Underworld Saga" is averted because the saga omits "The".
the
I absolutely lost it when watching this reaction. I held up strong when listening and watching the animatic the first time. I’m still crying right now. I can’t.
omg ody's face just lighting up instantly as he sees Polities is amazing
The fact that you don’t even need the animatic to understand that ody is so shocked and overjoyed to hear his mom’s voice that he forgets where he is and why he can hear her. Then the monomer of “I took too long” where it hits him, I cry every time I hear it cause of how heart breaking it is.
Lord I CANNOT listen to this song without crying at Odysseus' mom's part 😭😭😭
I watched the animatic and listened to the song already. But freaking Mortius over here with his analysis and facts just broke my heart. I legitimately started sobbing 😭
Literally, no matter how many times I listen to The Underworld, I cry at Ody's mom's part.
01:18 Im so happy with your decision! That's perfect! Thank you
Omg … the animatic with his mom is what got me sobbing.
i’m hearing the underworld saga for the first time with casper, and have not read the odyssey. i lost my mom about a month ago, and hearing odysseus’ mom in the underworld packed a PUNCH, lemme tell you that. jorge is too good at what he does. anyways back to lurking, it’s such a joy to get to watch these with yall
I’ve watched the Underworld uncountable times and there will come a day when I watch or listen and do not cry but it is not this day.
We're all gonna die than we're all gonna cry
“I took too long” actually breaks my freaking heart omg
