    A great job done. Thank goodness the glass hadn't been toughened. Would of had a surprise! 4mm Minster is what I used to enlarge a window. Needed to replace an intricate shaped piece with tight curves. Used the tapping method on the tightest curve end first after already breaking the end bit off from starting the other end. 3rd pane, worked a treat starting/ tapping method on the tight curve first. Love your videos.

      I hadn't even though about the toughened thing! that would have made a good blooper video!

    Nice video! Thank you. You are a brave glassworker cutting those inside corners! Was the original piece painted/stained those colors? But, I did not see a "key hole" cut. I guess we have different definitions of a key hole. Perhaps a British/American interpretation? Without an image, I will try to give an example of what I mean. Take a 5x5 inch piece of glass. At the center, make a 1 inch circular hole. Then, cut a 1/2 inch wide parallel slot leading from the hole to the outside edge of the glass (requires two cuts). Remove the circle and the slot without breaking the surrounding glass. The circle could be cut with a diamond coated glass bit, followed by two straight cuts from the circle to the edge of the glass. Or, a ring saw could be used for the entire cut. I am always concerned the remaining glass would be too fragile. The given dimensions are just an example. Other dimensions can be used. Thanks again for your video. I always enjoy watching how quickly you work.

      Very interesting - what's the purpose of the key hole cut as you describe it? And, by the way, to avoid confusion I've changed the video title.

      @@SophiesStainedGlass My limited understanding of it is that it was a way for a glass cutter to "show off" their incredible skills. I admit, if I had seen a stained glass piece with a bunch of key hole cuts in it, like in a repetative border, I would have been beyond amazed. One day I may try to make a small piece with a few key holes in it. But I am sure I will break a lot of glass doing it. And the result will be only appreciated by those who know glass.

    Oh you’re brilliant and brave. That must have been scary especially as it is a sentimental sheet of glass 🙏🙌🙌🙌

    Sophie, could you have removed the decorative lead, then reduced the clear to actual individual pieces, then leaded it back together? Love your work!

      Easier to just make a new one - but they were very attached to this one!

    My name is Pauline hi I like your shown there is a tool to call a wedge cutter. I am very interested in buying it. Can you tell me where you have bought yours? I need a good angle cutter. I don’t do well in that.

      Are you talking about a cutter for lead with a built in mitre guard?

    Cutting heavily textured glass scares me, watching you cut it so cleanly gives me hope that one day I may be able to.

      Most of the time I'm just hoping for the best! Glass has a way of undermining the best of us!

    Your glass cutting experience really shows on a difficult job like this one. I was holding my breath on a couple breaks.

    Sophie why is it called key cutting…..I was thinking of a keyhole in a door x

    • @SophiesStainedGlass
      @SophiesStainedGlass  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually I am not sure it is - tI thought it was because of the shape at the top of the glass - there seems to be some discussion on it.
