I'm a Canadian geologist, my work guns are:
BRNO 602, .375 H&H, 20" barrel, express sights with a Leupold 1.5x5x24 in Warne QD rings. rifle is Mauser action CRF. Stays mostly in camp or in vehicles as it is heavy. Still have a couple of boxes of 300 gr Failsafes.
For carrying where a carbine is carryable, Marlin (2002 JM era, pre-Remlin) 1895GS 45-70, Wild West trigger, ejector, mag follower, ghost ring sights and light mount, Leupold 2.5X IER mounted scout style in QD rings. Buffalo Bore 400 grain hard cast.
For carrying (with a Canadian Authorization to Carry permit) in black bear only habitat, a 2.5" S&W Model 19 with fullhouse 158 gr JSPs.
For carrying in grizzly or polar bear habitat, a 7.5" Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Casull with fullhouse 300 gr jacketed flat points.
    YMMV

So, take it that you are one of these knuckle heads who believe the handgun is more powerful than a rifle like a 375 H&H magnum so when charged by a bear 99% of knuckle heads say you throw the rifle to the bushes then go for the backup weak home defense handgun to shoot the bear !

I was an Alaskan professional hunting guide from 1989 to fall 2019.
geologist doesn't mean jack squat when it comes to large and dangerous bears and guns, and you even showed your own total stupidity and ignorance thinking you can stop instantly a grizzly attack by using a weak home defense handgun that has far less energy than a 30-30 win that no one in the north land thinks is a Grizzly or a brown bear gun.
because I have seen my clients' using rifles from 338 win mags - 375 magnums and even 458 Lott them the bear gone complete nuts and then came after us and needed multipole bullets from these rifles to keep the bear down you are using home defense handguns is going to get you killed and people with you killed when that weak handgun just makes the bear committed to attack and kill you.

@@MrJtin69 I guided in Alaska from 1989 to 2019 for brown bear and Yukon moose + Caribou.
Never would I walk Alaska bush country without my 338-win mag or my favored CZ 550 in 9.3x62 Mauser.
The close calls I had with bears hardens you to have in your hand more than enough power to put down any dangerous bears.
Anyone who thinks a deer gun or home defense handguns is an Alaskan hunting gun is a fool and can end up dead real fast against these large and dangerous bears.

I guided Alaskan hunts for Brown bear - Yukon moose and Baren ground Caribou from 1989 to 2009.
My advice in rifles is choose one rifle because bush Pilots keep the wait down so on space in a Super cub you won't have room for 2 rifles.
What you can take in the bush plane is going to be very limited and to choose between an extra gun or food you better choose wisely because if the planes can't fly over bad weather, you better be stocked up on food.
If you take a second gun, make it a 22LR kids' gun like Chipmunk rifle if you get stuck out there you have the 22 to shoot snowshoe hairs and tarragon to eat.
My 22LR Chipmunk rifle fed me and a few clients on times we felt when will the weather ever clear to get a plane in here to get us out ?
Myself and all the guides I did work for we all tell the client to bring a minimum of a 338 win mag or larger and bring ammo loaded with copper expanding bullets to go up against any dangers and kill your game faster.
It is a bad idea to ever go walking around the Alaskan bush with a deer gun when at any time you could find yourself up against a bear or a bear that tries to take over your game kill.
I normally was carrying a Winchester Mod - 70 in 338 win mag loaded with Barns TSX 225 grain bullets or a CZ 550 in 9.3x62 Mauser using all Reloads of Barns TSX 286 grain bullets and it was my favorite rifle and it killed everything fast and reliable.
The 9.3x62 Cartridge is absolute an amazing cartridge.

Excellent choices! A registered guide or an Alaska resident next of kin is required to hunt grizzlies, brown bear, sheep, goat in Alaska.
For caribou, black bear, wolves, Sitka black tail deer, a guide is not required for nonresident hunters.

I guided Alaskan big game hunts from 1989 to fall 2019.
The only rifle out of the 2 I would use is the 338 win mag that handles anything in Alaska and flying in bush planes you can't take a load of gear and a 2nd gun is just stupid to take so something must be left and not used the second gun or leave food and vital save your life gear so which would you take and leave?
Shooting any lead core bullets in Alaska is absolute ignorant stupidity and these ELD bullets are match target bullets that blow up on even deer.
Runing into a nasty bear then have lead core bullets in the gun you've got a risk to your own life with a bear that might not go down because the bullet blew up.

At what range are brown/grizzly bears typically shot at

    • @Lure-Benson
      @Lure-Benson 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@HaileyDooo The question you asked can cover a wide range of types of hunting for these bears in Alaska from open rolling tundra to SE Alaska forested hunting in ambush hunts or staking out salmon spawning streams.
The furthest one of my clients shot a coastal Brown bear was 192 yards that was check by using a Leupold range finder.
The closest shot a client made was 50 feet on a 9 1/2 foot adult male Brown bear that came up behind us as we sat High up on a steam log jam watching up and down the stream and the Huff noise of the bear alerted us it was there looking at us and was not so happy with us.
Where brown bears are found can be much different terrain than Grizzlys that live in the interior and often found on open barren ground and then live in ravines then come out to feed on berry's or to hunt small animals to Caribou to Moose.
In Western Alaska on a 2nd day hunting with a client that had a Moose and bear tag we walked like 100 feet from the tent then the client starts yelling BEAR - BEAR! I'm stunned because I don't see it, I yell WHERE? - The client yells and Points right there! across the steam standing on hind legs is a large Grizzly where its color blended with the brush - when I see it, I knew this was a shooter and told the client to shoot - shoot it now!
The Client using a very old Remington BDL 700 in 8 mm Remington magnum put a bullet right into the bears chest causing the bear to collapse on the spot.
The bear was so close that 8mm 220 grain bullet I am sure turned all the bears lungs and heart to liquid.
When I guided Brown bear hunts, I preferred to hunt salmon streams then set up on ambush locations using Hugh River log jams or sit on High River bluffs looking up and down the streams and waiting for the bear to be right under us before shooting so the bear would get the full power of the bullets.
On my Instagram account @ dwayneb1959 are some of my AK guide photos so you know I am not telling BS lies here.
