Nice shot Keith. I only have one running shot I remember. It was a coyote that ranged 425 yards where he dropped. It was a straight away shot with 270win and I sent it from bunghole to chest. No deer that year, but that lucky shot made it worth it.
It is a potent round. The reason why larger calibers are suggested is because they are stoppers. You can drop a large brown bear with a 7mm Rem. Mag but you can't stop a 1200 lbs charging one five yards from you, certainly not as efficiently as you can with a 375 H&H.
@@paulhomsy2751 Did you not see the video he just killed a brown bear with one shot using a 300 Win Mag, he didn't even need a safety shot. Why go any bigger that's ridiculous. I can go back and say that many hunters have used the 375 H&H and complained so why not go with the 458 Lott or better yet a 505 Gibbs.
It looks like the older Browning A Bolt, I couldn't get a great look at the muzzle break but it was probably the Browning BOSS (Ballistic Optimizing Shooting System). Depending on the year, I think Browning came out with it in 93/94, but don't quote me on that. It's kind of a muzzle break, it was designed so the shooter could "tune" the load to the rifle, but I've never heard much good about it other than recoil reduction.
@@colbycole3971 i like the Browning rifles theyre accurate! So is my Browning X bolt 375H&H mag. Accurate enough to blow off a rabbits head using 270 grain soft point core lokt bullets. I did give the rabbit to an elder so it wasnt wasted!
Beautiful scenery and video. Congratulations on a great hunt and great shot. The 300 mag too small? Not if you hit them right. Look at all the hundreds if not thousands of bears taken with the 30-06 over the last hundred years. No matter what you are shooting, you still have to hit them right. A bad hit with a 375 is still a bad hit. I'm not advocating small calibers for bear, it is still a good idea to use the biggest rifle you can shoot accurately, confidently and consistently. Also use a proper load. But I believe you are still better off with a properly loaded 06 that you can shoot well, then a 338 mag you are afraid of.
I know. I love all these dumb asses over the years . You need a 375 H&H !!!! Oh really ? You're tell8mg me a damn 30-06 200 grain going 2800 fps isn't enough to punch through bear vitals ? Bs !!!!!
True but a 338 win mag is considered a stopping cartridge an 06 is not. Yes use the gun your most comfortable with but if a bear comes out of the bush 30 yards away and charges you. You have maybe 3 seconds to react and shot placement is not going to be an easy task then. That's when I'd rather have enough gun to at least stop that charge.
@@nayrapepenova9325 if you are shooting a 458 magnum and don't hit the bear right, you still will not stop the bear. The 338 win mag is not some miracle cartridge that will stop anything despite the hit you make. A bad hit is a bad hit no matter what cartridge you are shooting.
Reminds me of the Mutual of Omaha brought to you by beautiful nature gorgeous animals look how beautiful they are now what would have made it fair is if the bear had three of his buddies up there and they would carry and high-powered rifles then it would be even Steven otherwise it was a no contest
The most important part of this video, harvesting a great bear should have been a couple more minutes longer, after the shot...Head size, paw size, etc...
Yeah 300 win mag is not way big for grizzly 300 win mag isn't known as a stopping cartridge. I wouldn't rely on it to safely stop a charging grizzly 30 yards away from me. That's where I'd want a stopping cartridge like a 338 win mag or 375 h&h magnum to at minimum stop the charge
Keith Warren hunting...... to bad you weren't on Prince of Wales island otherwise I could have been your driver around the island...... 4th largest island in the world.....
I’ve read multiple accounts of inland bears that aren’t eating fish are edible, but not great. Yet the coastal bears taste and smell like rotten fish and have an unbelievable amount of parasites. Black Bear are the ones to eat, as long as they aren’t the Black Bears that eat a lot of Salmon.

Excellent shot ! What load did you use ?
many say a 300wm is too small? i wouldn't waste any time talking to many, many is clueless
Shot placement is king my brother inlaw shot 1k lbs right in the heart ran 50 yards and died
You Can't Always Get a proper place shot like Ruark said use enough gun

the 06 has killed every critter on earth. the 300 is plenty for a brown

This looks like Walt Disney produces this video. Lol 😂
Nobody has said that a .300 win mag isn't enough for a brown bear.
It's enough but it's also not considered a stopping cartridge. A 338 win mag and up are considered stopping cartridges.
Dad already booked us a hunt for bear!
Going to go to Prince of Wales island in SE Alaska. Bringing my .416 Ruger and my 6.5 Grendel.
Sounds good, you must be a lucky girl that can reap the benefits of a wealthy family!

Out of curiosity what bullet did you use?
great shot , congratulations ,, I read all Andy Russels books loved them
I love the old school hunting shows.
I love your vids!
You and I had color to our hair back when this was videoed.....🤣
Hey Keith do you still have that killer camo with the cowboy hat?
Yep. Still do and it's got some battle scars on it too.
300 win mag is strong why they say not strong enough they want a 50bmg next

Kind of rifle did you use there bud?? What caliber was your rifle chambered in and what was the muzzle break at the end of it

Its a browning A-bolt 2 300 win mag with a BOSS on the end
The BOSS has worked on ever a bolt i have and even the BARS i have..browning is so advanced in everything they make

id rather a 300weatherby in grizzly country than a 30 06

For fun? They are hard to eat unless they are dead.
