My 12 year old son loves Teso because of all the Gundam there. My wife and I have fun there as well with the crane machines and the different flavor snacks. The chocolate orange kit Kats are awesome. I love the strawberry milk tea and their glass bottle flavored sodas, too, the ones with the glass ball in them. The Fanta orange and grape are awesome , and the orange tastes almost like orange juice and is lighter in color than the American one. Their sodas use real sugar too tastes much better. Some don't but most do there.

    • @giselletorres4156
      @giselletorres4156 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

The ones with the glass ball inside are Ramune. During my first time going to the Arizona Matsuri a decade ago they would hold ramune drinking contest. At that time in the early 2010s Matsuri used to be the *only* place to get japanese food and non-grocery items that you wouldn't find at Lams Market. It wasn't until 2015 that I saw a boba shop for the first time in Phoenix. Now we got an official Asian district in Mesa and so many pop-up stores here with asian groceries, stationary and skincare.

The Kit Kats made my eyes go wide 😂. Usually, you can only find those flavors online, and we all know that trying to order chocolate online AND all the way across the globe is a recipe for disaster. I would need to be pried away from this store if I saw those, lol. Also, if they have stationary.

i really like this video! living in queens teso has been a mainstay here for a while. quick correction, although teso calls themselves a japanese retailer, and many of the items they sell are indeed imported from japan, they’re actually new york based and run by chinese americans (their website is in chinese). they used to market to that crowd when it was one location in flushing and actually their front-door products consist of a lot of chinese toys alongside japanese ones, but now are trying to attract those interested in east asian products in general. i think theres a huge demand for them which is why they’ve been able to expand so rapidly. i say this because the emergence of stores like this ending in “-so” started with daiso, which IS a Japan-based dollar store, and a newer chinese retailer called Miniso got into controversy after calling themselves japanese (in attempt to align themselves with the Daiso crowd) and now call themselves chinese instead. some lore on these asian stores coming from someone who frequents them

I'm an American living in South Korea and it's fun to see all the Asian stuff now available back in the States. South Korea basically has their own version of all this or they import it from Japan. For example, Korea has some of the more exotic flavors of Kit Kat branded for South Korea, but Japan is still the king when it comes to variety.
The Baldak Ramen is really good if you like hot flavored ramen. The Carbona and hot sauce ramen is my kid's favorite flavor.
Korea like Japan has their own version of Doritos and Cheetos. While they don't taste like the American version they are still pretty good.
This was a nice change of pace. Thanks for uploading.

Before I get to the part when you try the "Sea Salt" flavored soda... considering that a big thing in Kingdom Hearts was Sea Salt ice cream... I strongly suspect that "Sea Salt" is a flavor profile like "Bubblegum" or "Blue Raspberry" here in the US... Just this past weekend I was reminded that a common flavor found in Sno Cones is "Tiger's Blood"... and that is a "tropical punch" kinda flavor with coconut mixed in... So I am intrigued.

This store looks great. In southern California we're not hurting for japanese stores (Tokyo Central/Marukai, Daiso, Nijiya, Book Off, and more) but this one certainly has some stuff I haven't seen. Those Pantasy brick sets I haven't seen. Also, different countries do stuff even like Coca Cola differently. I think japan does a mix of real sugar and corn syrup. Mexico does only real sugar. US does only corn syrup. So they do taste slightly different, especially in their after-taste.

This type of shop is extremely popular in China! They sell everything from food to clothing to toys/DIY and makeup with a lot of character inspired goods. Miniso is probably the most well-known one. Three Coins and The Green Party are two other major chains in China but there's not much info on those in english. There were at least 3-4 other stores with the same type of retail concept in one mall (and all were full). The Rolife Kits, Legos and toys were all displayed in the same way.

(I'm thinking of the Kingdom Hearts Sea Salt ice cream that the Twilight Town trio had at the end of the day in KH Days.)

No stores SF bay area? May be because of Japan town in SF?

There's a cool Japanese shopping center in San Jose/Campbell that has a store like Teso Life, can't remember the name of it. It's next to Kinokuniya book store. They had pre-made sushi, pork buns etc. like how American grocery stores have pre-made Deli stuff. They also had a mini food court in the store. Japantown is still the coolest all around though.

@@super256colors2 I grew up in SJ Berryessa. So this probably why we haven gotten one yet. There are already similar stores everywhere in the SF Bay Area

This was nice and upbeat! As you say, usually it's a little depressing (though fascinating) seeing the demise of once great stores. Maybe this format has something to teach older franchises?

If the mecha models are fairly priced then I'll hope for one to crop up near me.

I would looooove to have a Japanese store close to me! We have Chinese, Thai, and Indian stores that are cool and do sell Japanese stuff as well but none that specialize.

FYI, Teso Life is Chinese owned/managed company selling “Japanese” products. 😃 Founder Andy Lin (from Fuzhou, China), his brother/staff arrived on tourist visas. Lin’s crepe company run by his brother is also Japanese themed.

It seems more like a general Asian groceries (minus the fresh foods) with heavy Japanese non-food merchandise. The website and the store sign is actually in Chinese. Seems like that the Oregon location will be in East Portland, which is good since the West side already has Uwajimaya. I'll check it out once it opens, since it seems to be a good Daiso alternative, and Daiso alternative that might carry some stuff that Uwajimaya doesn't. It'll l be a bit further away to me compared to Uwajimyaya, but it beat Daiso which I have to drive to Washington for, and usually doesn't warrant a trip just for Daiso.

Hopefully we get one of these in Texas. We're getting Daiso soon and I loved visiting those in Japan.

I wish we had such a store where I live, something that feels a little more open to everyone. Most Asian related stores here are niche things that are located within those communities, so you feel like an intruder if you visit 😅.

It looks like H Mart may have an up and coming competitor. We have a few H marts where I live and they carry very similar products. I wish you would have gone over a couple of the Kirby Cosmetics products lol. They look very cute and I have not seen them in H mart yet.

That looks like a fun store. Seems to only exist in The States. I wonder how they come up with a new store location? There are 10 in New York city so that makes sense. A truck doesn't have to drive there for one store, but can supply ten. When they started there, I could see a logical growth if they opened their next stores in Philadelphia, New Jersey, Maryland, Baltimore, Washington and so on. But their nearest store is in Atlanta, Houston and Dallas. En then the next one is in Phoenix Arizona?! How does that work regarding supply chain in a way that it makes money? I am from The Netherlands where every time you put your feet on the gas, you're already in a new town of course. But those stores seem awfully far away from each other to make any sense in my opinion business wise. Or is supplying them by air that cheap in the US that perhaps that is a reason? Looks a lot better than Temu.
