I just noticed I forgot to include the webcam and floppy drive in the last segment. The last segment was filmed way after the rest of the video was put together. I should have reviewed the footage again before filming. I do still have them, and they will appear in a upcoming video on the RA2 channel. Thanks for watching!
I’m a trucker and years ago I did some local LTL trucking and for awhile the company I worked for had a contract with Savers/Value Village and I’d have to go to the big warehouses and pick up loaded trailers and take them to different stores. These trailers were INSANELY heavy lol! Illegally heavy! Thankfully there were no weigh stations in the areas I’d have to go but until you’ve driven a semi and had a heavy heavy load when I say a 53 foot trailer packed floor to ceiling with random clothes and stuff….it is heavy lol! Can not express that enough. I remember my first trailer and it kinda creeped me out because there were like random clothes and baby doll heads and like a right foot flip flop that had fell off and gotten smashed and this stuff would be just laying on the ground next to the dock lol. And the workers would just use shovels and shovel random stuff off to the side lol! It was pretty crazy lol.
Yeah I still see them over at Target and book fairs to this day, they just changed the cover to look more modern. I prefer the older covers because I'm an older gen z with nostalgia bias but if kids today like the stories that's all that matters.
OMG!! Trauma triggered! You pulled out that 1996 Grammy CD and I went back to grade 8! My parents bought me a CD player for my birthday and gave me that CD as a gift to go with it! I was SO excited to have my very own CD player I was beaming with joy. Someone at the party commented that the song “You Outta Know” was on the CD and it wasn’t censored. (“She says the “f” word in that song!”) My mom immediately took the CD back in front of all my friends and I was so embarrassed. In 1996, that was a big deal. Hahaha! She also gave me Weird Al Yankovic’s Bad Hair Day tho so it all evens out. Lol
As a librarian, i can say with confidence that kids still read baby sisters club. The first novel i ever read was baby sitters little sisters club - karens very bad day (or something like that).
The monitor calibration tool is used by photographers and graphic artists to make sure that the colors on their monitor are being accurately reproduced.
Back in the day, I had a CD Stomper because I worked with several local bands to promote their music. Fun fact: if you left those CDs in your car in the summer, the adhesive on the labels would get gummy and come off in your CD deck.
I shopped at a Radio Shack this weekend for the first time in probably 10-15 years. I was near the one in Claremore, OK and had a few minutes to spare, so I stopped in. It was surprising to see that they had actual radio things on the shelf (antenna connectors, things like that), and that it didn't seem like a glorified cell phone store which is what most of their locations had become.
modern version of careers 3:58 legit lol, dude nailed it...midwest version: factory, gas station, retail, truck driver, and the lowest dollar general employee (hating on dollar general not the poor soul working their butt off solo)
i recently discovered your channel and it brings me so much joy. i am an 80s kid, so the malls and department stores push a lot of nostalgia buttons without having to deal with traffic and parking. the music is great too. thank you so much!
Try WD40 to get the goo off. TEST it first! On a small area. Spray WD40 on a qtip and rub it in a little on the sticky goo and see if the adhesive starts to come out. You can clean up the WD40 afterwards with windex or whatever.
If you want '90s drinks coasters that are up your alley, Numskull Designs do coasters in the shape/form of PS1 game boxes, they have like a Capcom collection, Sony first party, Tomb Raider Etc.
I think strait up gold coasters are more 80's than 90's. 90's decor would have been "gold-green patina" probably with turquoise trim. EDIT: Come to think of it, the 90's coaster holder also would have had a function that played "Enya" whenever you took a coaster out lol
I love Thrifting Time! Thank you for the new episode. I enjoy rewatching the whole playlist to see the "finds" which carry through multiple episodes (e.g., coffee table, cookbook, etc.)
Pandemic is actually a good board game, and yes, predates Covid by several years. The copy you saw at Goodwill is some kind of "lite" version of it I'm not familiar with.
I graduated to Lightscribe CDS and DVDS. Still have a machine I built around 2006-07 that has them. CD labels jammed up so many car cd players. When I worked for Chrysle they used to backcharge customers if they found any jammed cds in a deck warranted.
The color screen calibration thing is useful for graphic designers and video makers as the colors on your LCD screen can be different than the colors of a printer or on other people's screens for video. I am not sure how good that particular piece of software is but I know professionals use that technology.
I like the intro. I used something similar once in a video. The piece of music you used just as you were entering the abandoned corridor was just right for a spooky and damp abandoned space. 😁👍
Love the X-files reference that is interesting that the pandemic game came out in 2019!?! Hopefully at the end of the year and not creepy prior knowledge
Didn't see anyone else saying this, but the tag on the Disney Infinity figurine is actually from the 99 cent store, and it's one of the tags they used to put on the items that were more than 99 cents (back before almost every was over 99 cents). Kind of funny to see now, in light of the impending closure.
Hah, I actually looked at that same monitor calibrator at that Savers around Christmas last year and passed on it. Small world! I used a similar one to color-calibrate my monitors and TV. They have a third party driver available that makes them still usable today. Also loved the alley exploration. Looks like a good spot for some liminal space photography.
I also enjoy going to thrift stores. You have a chance of finding something from your childhood days and might luck into sealed DVDs, video games, systems, and others. It's a joy to go treasure hunting.
The Disney infinity stuff still works it’s just you can’t do online games and stuff (or at least it did a couple years ago when I played that same set) all the nfc tag does it’s unlock the content on the disc….bit I’m not suprised a thrift store would price it more than the price tag on it…
I use hot water and dish soap for stickers on cases. Let them soak in water as hot as your sink can get it with some dish soap. Just let it sit for a while. Even those pesky sports game stickers come off.
I remember finding a bunch of really good 90s movies on Laserdisc at a Value Village (our version of Savers). They had stuff like Speed and Con Air lol. I do remember them being priced a bit high...someone probably matched them to eBay prices...so I only grabbed a few. They were mixed in with the records as well. I never go through the records anymore...I really should start doing that again.
My uncle had Web TV when I was a kid and that thing blew my mind. I remember all the stuff it could record and the security cameras you could watch from different cities in the world you could switch from, Paris, Tokyo, London, Time Square. I think some channels were interactive too.
They now make a comic series based on "Baby Sitter's Club." I read a Free Comic Book Day edition (last year, I think). I enjoyed it. 😊 Also, the books continued with the main characters' younger siblings aging up & taking over the club. I collected nearly all the OG series as a little girl. Then in college, I donated all but like 3 of the books to a children's charity. I hope some some kids had fun reading them!
Cool "shh!" Gracie films introduction! I just finished watching the Simpsons' 7th season today! So sad that they've stopped selling DVDs of the Simpsons, right?
If you ever make it to Japan, they have what they call recycle shops. Pretty much thrift store. Difference is that everything has been cleaned up and it’s like new. Great prices and lots of electronic artifacts.
Yeah the price of toys ( especially action figures) are a complete rip off it's a piece of plastic it shouldn't cost $10 retail the price at the thrift store is what a tiny toy like that should be. Also I've seen a commercial when I was little for a doll similar too that yep creepy is only half of it
that was fun! too bad that mall is so dead....I bet at one time it was a lovely little place to shop but I think those days are pretty much done and dusted!
That was a fun thrifting trip. For that sticker or most any adhesive residue i have found wd-40 works super well sometimes it needs some dwell time then i just clean up the wd-40 with glass cleaner.
>Gremlins 2 DVD I have a Blu-Ray of that in a 3-disc pack (with the first Gremlins and [bizarrely] Goonies) from when Wal-Mart had various 3-movie Blu-Ray sets for $7. Yes, those were Warner Home Video releases.
I haven't gone thrifting since the local Goodwill condensed its toys & media sections in order to fit in more women's clothing instead. It feels more like a Marshalls or Ross that sells previously worn clothes than a thrift shop now. So I'm glad at least Savers seems to have some cool retro stuff (even though there aren't any Savers locations near me).
A teacher of mine had a laserdisc. That was my first and only IRL encounter with laserdisc. It’s kinda funny how incredibly fast some media formats (laser, beta, hddvd) get buried by the sands of time
That mall looks haunted. I was half expecting a ghost to show up. And with the football helmets, the last time I looked, they were selling baseball caps from all the teams. I didn't see anything football.
The goodwills near me are always picked clean of anything interesting electronics wise like almost immediately, and some have stopped taking computer stuff. Were the christmas albums bad?
I was just saying that before you said it 9:26 😊 I hope someone was able to gift some of those toys and they didn't fall into a reseller's grubby hand 😂 As for the sticky stuff (most likely won't come off, that where the genre tag for BB was) on DVD case, you can just switch the insert with another Blockbuster DVD case .
I fell into the Infinity trap when it first started being dumped by stores. I think I singlehandedly extended the life of the King of Prussia Toys R Us by a week. Got all of the Star Wars figures and only missing Yondu to complete Guardians of the Galaxy. The Lego Dimension kits are the expensive ones, especially licensed ones. Fortunately it's pretty easy to make NFC cards for them now.
The gold coasters definitely go with that table. Nice find. Black mold can smell like urine. Or it could be bums. Sad to see that nice little shopping center mostly abandoned. Love your channel! ❤❤❤
Love the content, as always. Such a great vibe, and maaan a lot of it is a nostalgia trip. Especially that RCA internet box! I miss design like that, it's not sterile like stuff now.
I love your thrifting time videos but I think they gave me unrealistic expectations for these kind of stores. XD;; I found a Goodwill near me and it was teeny tiny with everything spaced out a bunch to fill up the floor space, virtually no toys, no video games at all, no computer software, no electronics… It did have some DVDs and music CDs, and a piece of furniture I was almost tempted to buy, but overall it was almost nothing but clothes! Don't know if you heard about 99 cent stores the company is done for.
I’m a trucker and years ago I did some local LTL trucking and for awhile the company I worked for had a contract with Savers/Value Village and I’d have to go to the big warehouses and pick up loaded trailers and take them to different stores. I'm a teacher and students still read The Babysitter's Club...one of my students asked for those books for her birthday recently.
That's good to know! Such a classic!
Yeah I still see them over at Target and book fairs to this day, they just changed the cover to look more modern. I prefer the older covers because I'm an older gen z with nostalgia bias but if kids today like the stories that's all that matters.
I work at a library and they definitely circulate
Love the spooky, windy music that plays when you start walking around the abandoned mall portion
It's the World of Ruin overworld theme from Final Fantasy 6.
"I'll just leave this here for somebody else."
That's beautiful. Thank you for passing that mentality on, seriously.
Let someone else have their fun.
If he already has it, why would he buy it?
That $1.99 tag on the disney infinity dory is actually from the 99 cent store, which is very relevant given their current financials
Homie needs to do a video on that. the closures and liquidation is getting kinda depressing 😭
OMG!! Trauma triggered!

Hahaha! She also gave me Weird Al Yankovic’s Bad Hair Day tho so it all evens out. Lol
I loved the Scholastic Book Fair
A River Runs Though It, would be good to watch during a drought. 😮 Or the Salt River near Phoenix,
which was dry when I lived in
NE Phoenix in 1976. 😅
The animated doll should be with
Robert T Doll in the Matello Museum in Key West I saw him
there twice. 😮
Was that CD Rom, PediaLight? 😮
Always looked for the Goosebumps books
Loved the x files music cut!
4:48 That MSN butterfly logo hits different in the late 90s-Early 2000s ☺️
Great nostalgia!
As a librarian, i can say with confidence that kids still read baby sisters club. The first novel i ever read was baby sitters little sisters club - karens very bad day (or something like that).
The World of Ruin music in the corridor is an excellent choice!
The music during the walkthrough of the abandoned shopping area...as Garfield would say, "Nice touch!" LOL!

The gummy adhesive sounds like a REALLY good way to ruin a CD player...
@@gordontaylor2815 Yeah we had to switch to a different brand of labels! The CD Stomper was amazing though.
I decided to use LightScribe instead of CD labels, for that very reason, but then couldn't afford the expensive LightScribe-compatible discs
@@plur90 Those were so expensive!!!

In public libraries, we use lighter fluid to get rid of stubborn labels. Works better than Goo Gone and other things I've tried.
The original Pandemic board game came out in 2008. Also, It Reeks of Piss is my favorite metal band.
i recently discovered your channel and it brings me so much joy. i am an 80s kid, so the malls and department stores push a lot of nostalgia buttons without having to deal with traffic and parking. the music is great too. thank you so much!

I can’t believe you passed over the Sony boombox without a closer look. Those bowling coasters were pretty sweet too.
I used to live in the apartment building that's like attached to this plaza.
That abandoned strip mall that goes back is so creepy at night
No better time than Thrifting Time

You reminded me that Denny's had a branded Atari app with bacon and eggs Breakout. Early modern mobile games fit right in with bacon obsession.

I know that creepy corridor. haha I grew up just on the other side of Gilbert rd.. there. I remember the fry's.

I had that 96 Grammys CD back then

Gremlins 2 currently on tubi, for those curious.
