Your reaction of getting more and more exasperated with the stupidity contrasted with the absolute confidence these reddit morons have is a common one. The most rage inducing comments are always along the lines of "I haven't watched the review fully, but here's why it's wrong..." This kinda stuff makes my blood boil. The worst part is that you can never prove those idiots wrong; they will always smugly stand on their demonstrably incorrect points. Laughing at them is all fine and well, but too much exposure really does kill your own braincells.
Definitely. Unfortunately with reddit, they aggressively ran off any reasonable or sound-minded individuals long ago. Nowadays everything has a veneer of 'progressivism' and everything is political. I occasionally visit the website for the odd sports clip and politics is everywhere. On the r/soccer subreddit, well lets just say that with the recent troubles in Palestine, there was not much love for people of Jewish persuasion. The 'moderators' must have agreed with the views being aired because there was zero moderation of the antisemitic comments. You can either wade through the hatred or you can move on. Having Redditors comment on what is morally right or wrong is like Myra Hindley providing parenting advice.
Even fucking Gumshoe has combat mechanics. Not the best but they are there in a game that is ALL narrative. I also love that these speds need a book to tell them its ok to change the rules in a game of pretend. New subscriber here, you guys are such a breath of fresh air for me. Keep it up
David Milch, the creator of the tv show Deadwood, said it best: “The emotional reaction of the character *is* the plot.” The story at the table needs to come from Roleplaying, otherwise the narrative moments become meaningless and everyone might as well just sit around the campfire listening to someone else tell stories.
Original CP2020 has a damn fine Lifepath, but it's one of the only ones I can think of outside of the Traveller one and some REALLY good third party supplements that are sadly out of print. Central Casting, they did three separate books of nothing BUT lifepath/character background charts (fantasy, modern, sci-fi). Still available on DriveThru I think, and they're system agnostic.

Frankly, I don't know what value that is, but you get my point. Conversely, an RPG that has too much UNMOTIVATED combat suffers in a similar way; it becomes too beholden to dice and doing things for the sake of utilizing game mechanics, rather than because of the causality of roleplay. If I'm an Edgerunner in Cyberpunk Red and I need to sneak into a Corpo office building to steal some documents off a company computer terminal, I might not want to fight security - maybe I just want to do stealth stuff. But if I'm that same Edgerunner and someone has kidnapped my mainline, you best believe I'll be zeroing that gonk! And I know this all comes down to the GM's discretion and the team's dynamics (some players really do just want to fight all day every day, and some players want to live out their fantasies of being an actor). And this is, and always has been for me, what makes TTRPGs the BEST type of game ever created. A great GM paired with a great party of players can create the greatest experiences.
Dresden files and Fate (both OG and Accelerated) have damage levels for gusn and weapons.
