I suggest baskets lined up. One for kitchen items. One for kids/toy room. One for bathroom. One for living room/den. One for garage or storage shed. As they get full take them to appropriate area, put items away and take basket back to the room you are cleaning or decluttering. Don't over fill baskets so that they are too heavy.

I take 3 totes and force myself to reduce it to one tote...in between mega cleaning days once every 6 months of that super downsizing day, I clear out 40 things a day. After slow decluttering for 4 years I emptied four 9x12 ft storage units.I no longer use a bedroom closet. I downsized to 2 coat trees.. then to 1 coat tree..to no coat tree..10 things on hangers with a tote for socks.
I would recommend attaching a firm bungy cord from back standard of your steel shelf and wrap around the front and attach to the back standard on the other side. This should help during an earthquake.

Thank you for your video. I struggle with my office. It serves as a catch-all for my items that don’t have homes. I don’t like being in there with things that don’t belong there. I end up with bins of random stuff all the time. I need to work on that. Find homes for things right away and sometimes that just may be the garbage.
I’ve finally 3/4’s finished my last room in my house of Decluttering & organising my office/ Craft studio . I’m super warn out while working along with you . Thanks for your company hun 🙂 here from Queensland Australia
That was the most thorough cleaning video I've ever watched. I've never seen anyone include cleaning out their drain pipes, but they obviously needed it! Awesome! Your house must feel so good now, with everything so clean. On your canning shelves, you could use bungee cords maybe. For long spans, hook bungee cords end-to-end. Or rope. I believe I've heard that household cleaners need to go in hazardous waste disposal. Regarding photographs, scanning is good, but keep some hard copies in the event of changes in technology, failure of technology, etc. On your laptops and other devices, you wiped your personal info and documents off them, hopefully. I'm enjoying your channel. New subscriber. 😊
I watched all these when they first came out...the office one for me is my favorite...would love an office update to see if it stayed decluttered or to re-declutter it. Also would love a video on decluttering your digital life and how you organize folders and files on your Macs...also update on all those pictures and slides and how you scanned them or digitized them, etc. Great to see videos again!
Thanks! Great ideas! I do have plans to go back to the office. It stayed mostly decluttered, but I never actually took the boxes of donations, recycling, and relocate and put them where they belong! 🤦🏻♀️ So that needs to get done for sure! Thanks so much for your support!
Check out Acre Homestead. She cans a lot of food that she grows in her garden and has it stored in her basement and I believe she has something across the front of her shelves to keep jars from falling off.
I just started scanning my photos with Google's Photoscan a couple days ago. I'm really liking it, especially with all the old photos showing up on my Nest screen. I looked into a couple other services but use Chatbooks to print - seamless integration. I've been decluttering for years and am finally at the point where doing the photos is a joy not an obligation. You're making great progress through your closets! Love your skiing supplies shelf and rack in the other closet. 🌻🍄
Great video, I loved the office declutter, I'm in the midst of one now, you were decluttering many items we have too many of as well (old electronics and cords, cords and more cords!-and apple boxes-they all went!)
Hi Ali, I just come across you site today and have been binge watching. I felt your pain and frustration when your salsa fell and a jar broke. I would like to give a couple of pointers regarding your canning (not a critique at all) best practices in canning are to remove all of the rings. This enables you to determine if you have a false seal. Also, it is ok to stack 2 layers but you should have a layer of cardboard between the layers. I will be starting your 15 minute decluttering as well as the 2 minutes for the hot spots… Thank you for the motivation and inspiration!
@@pamthomes9022 Hi! I’m glad you are here! Thanks for the tips. I do remove the rings when I wash the jars after cooling. I make sure to check the seals before putting the rings back on.
I just found your channel. You do a great job and are very interesting to watch because you cover a lot of sensible material. The mint green top is very pretty. I think you should keep it and wear it. I kept clothes I grew out of and I am glad I did because I lost weight and I have something to fit into that I like. Also I hate shopping.
I just have a bag or box for each section of the house and I take it off all at once. Example kids rooms, bathroom, basement, garage, etc. Saves 2000 trips lol and tons of time. Also try to stop sorting when you still have some steam left to put stuff away so you’re more likely to put stuff away.
After watching your video, I realized that I naturally declutter all the time. I live alone, so I don’t buy as much food as a family. I recently scanned family photos and shared them with family. I’m also creating photo albums by uploading them to a website that creates photo albums for me.
The small bathroom Dixie cups could have been donated. Even though the box was open whoever bought them could have thrown away the top couple of cups and used the rest which I'm sure were fine. I've bought paper cups at rummage(garage)sales & thrift stores before. The canning lids that were older I'm sure were fine as I've seen canning channels that use them all the time. Actually the older lids have a thicker seal which many canners love. However the Amazon lids, yeah those were iffy and needed to be tossed. Refilling the bottles in the bathroom use a funnel. I have a Tupperware funnel with about a dime size opening that works perfectly for that as I refill my big hand soap pump in my kitchen. This was a very enjoyable video with lots of great inspiration. tfs
Thanks! I’m pretty sure I did do donate the cups. Now I can’t remember! I try and donate as much as I can. The bottles did come with a funnel, but the conditioner was so thick it wouldn’t go in. Maybe the shampoo too. It probably needed to have a wider opening.
i am watching your channel first time because i am very interesting your content with many equitment like computer and clothng and book all goods it is very important to showing
To keep the bottled fruit from falling off the shelf in case of earthquake you could use one of the occy straps - that’s what we call them in Australia - the long elastic type strap with the hooks on either end. It is a quick and easy if not temporary fix.
HI! Great idea about kid's snack "paks." Here's a thought on the lazy susan where the canisters are bumping into the wall, you might try round containers. Depending on where you live, you might be able to buy more items in bulk (cereals, pastas), this would cut down on filling up the recycle bin and you can also see how much is left. A free solution I use in my pantry are gallon jars. Many places are happy to give them to you (sandwich shops, deli counter at grocery stores, even restaurants). I enjoyed your "marathon." Although, I'm a bit ahead of your journey, I feel like I have miles to go!! I am motivated! Thank you!! This year 2024 my word is "DECLUTTER." Best to you in 2024. :)
I don't know whether the bike lock you threw in the trash was usable or not (I was cleaning the cat litter box and listening) but I like to think of stealthy ways to pass things forward. A bike lock would be great to set out on a middle school bike rack section. Some disappear, some kids leave theirs at home, etc. Finding a lock with a "free" sign on it could put that bike lock on someone' bike and not in a landfill. I know there's not time to do that with everything, but I do have a box in the back of the car for times when I see a new place for a usable item.
Hi it's my first time watching you good video, I was just listening to you about suggestions on the canned food . I just thought about you getting bungee cords to keep your jars from falling over.
I just made a video where I put bungee cords on! DECLUTTER & ORGANIZE Your Food Storage | Prepper Pantry Tour & Hacks th-cam.com/video/uhmsS4GKOuM/w-d-xo.html
Switch your recycle bin & potatoes. Put the bin horizontal under where the potatoes are & move the potato wire holder to the other shelf. The recycle bin would be easier to get to not tucked into the corner.
You may try pouring hot water down ur sink after you’ve taken the trap off, and find s long stick or brush to help break stuff up. Been there girl! I hate it too
I think I would remove the closet door in the laundry room. You could just leave it opened or hang a curtain over it. A battery operated light would help. I have one in a closet that I hung on the side. It works great. 🌺
I like your clear square foot storage containers. Can you please tell me where you got them? All I can find are clip tops & my experience with those hadn't been great.
Are you referring to the food storage containers? These? amzn.to/492elDD I tried a few clip top containers as well and hated them. I returned them. Ahh, I think you meant “food” container instead of “foot”. Lol. So I believe this is what you’re talking about. Correct me if I’m wrong! I purchased a big set from Costco when it was on sale.
I watch clutterbug here on youtube, shes a professional organiser and has some amazing tips and tricks. I especially love hers for her kids, she has boxes fkr them but also a 'dump' basket to go through once a month or whatever, may be a good idea for you too 😊xx
I'd love to see what all home hacks you use that you may not realize you're doing. Something in the way of organizing in containers that look good and are useful at a discount. Thoughts?
Enjoyed the video although I don’t understand why people feel the need of a prepper pantry. I think I’m just lucky that I don’t worry about the future & live in the present because that’s all we really have. It must be very unsettling to always feel the need to be prepared & also harder to part with stuff. It’s interesting how different we all are. Great declutter, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your point of view. That is actually one of the reasons I haven’t really been stocking it up much! That being said, I do like to be somewhat prepared for any sort of disaster or emergency. I definitely don’t dwell on it though! Thanks for watching!
I’m from the uk, I live in a tiny 2 up 2 down house in a costal town of Lancashire.. the houses were built just after WW2.. my whole frontroom and kitchen are about the size of your office 😊😅.. a 2 up 2 down is 2 rooms bottom of the house.. 2 bedroom upstairs with one tiny bathroom only big enough for a tiny shower.. my whole bathroom is about the size of a small car and my garden the same.. I’d love a big American house .😊😊😊
I bought clear refrigerator bins for fridge, but then fridge died, landlord replaced with smaller one. (ugh) but found they work for bake goods for pantry, and under bath sink. Gaskets in unused lids will work well for about five years from the date they were manufactured
Hey just sitting here watching your video and realized you have left your rings on your caning jars. I don't know if you know this but you need to take them off to store because they can look like they are sealed when they are not sealed. Look into it. Love your videos just found you.
Thank you! Yes I know about the rings. I take them off after they’ve cooled and wash both the rings and the jars. I put them back on for storage. I always check the jars are sealed when opening them. Thanks!
Paper shredding can take a really long time. I've found that kids love to do things like that & it feels great to get 1 task off of my list. Feels like a huge weight has been lifted.
Thanks for asking! I have them in case we have an emergency where we have to leave our home or we are stuck at home with no stores open or running water. I hope that helps!
I did so well when my family was young and never struggled with stuff,I did whatever gave me more family between work. I was proud of my home and it felt so easy. Now I amdrowning in inventory. we remodeled our bath for aging in place, the contractor arrived early(??!!who does that?) with his team. I nearly fainted, thought I had a week to clear out the space for the job. I was shocked at how much it was my sister had to jump in , we had to just "sling" all that crap out of their way because time is money because wer were holding things up. ended up a great project, they ended up taking 3 weeks instead of the week I was promised
If/when you donate an item that needs fixing, do you do this via a local neighbourhood group or put it up for free on Facebook marketplace or something similar? I don't think it's good practice to take broken items to a donation centre.
I donated 11 pieces of furniture some of which was furniture that was more than a 100 years old and I was glad to give a job to somebody at. Goodwill to taking my items and for sales people to sell my items enjoy those things
I imagine that was somewhat hard! I just sold a beautiful piece of furniture that was my grandmother’s. It was a hard decision, but it wasn’t useful for my daughter anymore and I have no room or use for it elsewhere.
Do you not find that having "time will tell" in a bin, means that you won't use them at all because theyre not at hand? Just feels like you might as well get rid of them straight away
You are really hardcore in that bathroom lady. I am impressed! Hand tools toothpicks razor blades what an arsenal! I'm really enjoying this, thank you!

Thanks.
New to your channel today I'm liking this vlog happy New year xx
Thank you! Happy New Year to you, too!
Your lashes look so good!!
Thank you!
Books are great to donate to your local library, I did that with my kids books as they grew out of them.
Thanks for the suggestion. ❤️
Just subscribed!
Thank you! I’m glad you’re here.
My husbands office is next. Thanks for the 4 box idea.
Sure! Good luck! ❤️
To keep the bottled fruit from falling off the shelf in case of earthquake you could use one of the occy straps - that’s what we call them in Australia - the long elastic type strap with the hooks on either end. It is a quick and easy if not temporary fix.
Thank you! I actually added those in a recent video!
Thank you ❤
@@rachelhazelton8544 you’re welcome!
Thanks for the suggestions! Love it! ❤️
I love your ideas helpful
Thank you! I’m glad you found it helpful. ❤️
Oh I definitely would have kept it or donated it if it worked! I didn't have the key and had no idea where it was.
Hi it's my first time watching you good video, I was just listening to you about suggestions on the canned food . I just thought about you getting bungee cords to keep your jars from falling over.
I just made a video where I put bungee cords on! DECLUTTER & ORGANIZE Your Food Storage | Prepper Pantry Tour & Hacks
th-cam.com/video/uhmsS4GKOuM/w-d-xo.html
Switch your recycle bin & potatoes. Put the bin horizontal under where the potatoes are & move the potato wire holder to the other shelf. The recycle bin would be easier to get to not tucked into the corner.
That’s a good idea. I’ll give that a try! Thanks.
You won’t regret keeping the drill drill brush things you should try it it works wonders
I need to try it! It’s still in the box. 🤦🏻♀️
Some of those cords can be donated some of those apple chargers I still use them for my iPod but you made me want to go through all my plastic bins
Really? Donated? I didn’t even think of that! Thanks.
I only use the fabric beads for towels and sheets
I love them for my sheets. They smell so good.
You may try pouring hot water down ur sink after you’ve taken the trap off, and find s long stick or brush to help break stuff up. Been there girl! I hate it too
Great ideas! Thank you! ❤️
I store fresh cut veggies, candy and I decant some pantry items in my Mason jars. (Protein powder, nuts, etc.)
Popcorn, goldfish, even butter!
@@kristabauer2359 butter? Tell me more.
I think I would remove the closet door in the laundry room. You could just leave it opened or hang a curtain over it. A battery operated light would help. I have one in a closet that I hung on the side. It works great. 🌺
Great idea! I’m going to put in one of those lights. Thanks!
I like your clear square foot storage containers. Can you please tell me where you got them? All I can find are clip tops & my experience with those hadn't been great.
I’m not sure which containers you are referring to. I’ll scan through the video and see if I can find what you are talking about and get back to you!
Maybe like a metal bracket and then a wood piece to be about 2-3 inches up that would go across and brace the jars ?
Great idea! Thank you!
I watch clutterbug here on youtube, shes a professional organiser and has some amazing tips and tricks. I especially love hers for her kids, she has boxes fkr them but also a 'dump' basket to go through once a month or whatever, may be a good idea for you too 😊xx
I love Cass! ❤️
I'd love to see what all home hacks you use that you may not realize you're doing. Something in the way of organizing in containers that look good and are useful at a discount. Thoughts?
Great idea! I’ll think of those and try and make a video. ❤️
Sounds like fun!
I write the expiration dates in permanent marker so it’s easier to notice when I am looking in the pantry.
I just did that in my pantry update! DECLUTTER & ORGANIZE Your Food Storage | Prepper Pantry Tour & Hacks

How about strapping a bungee cord or two across the front of each shelf?
Great idea! I want to try that.
Wow! I always love hearing about how other people live. Thanks for sharing!
P.s. you mentioned that your hands shake. Mine do too.
DOCTOR told me it was my blood sugar. Also heard it can be lack of B12 vitamin.
Thanks!
I bought clear refrigerator bins for fridge, but then fridge died, landlord replaced with smaller one. (ugh) but found they work for bake goods for pantry, and under bath sink. Gaskets in unused lids will work well for about five years from the date they were manufactured
Thanks!
I’m new to your channel I heard about your channel through you friend Catherine Elaine I’m new to her channel to get an idea as to Declutter my home
I’m glad you’re here! ❤️
Smart! I actually had my 9 year old help me for a little while. He got tired of it pretty quickly! Haha.
can i ask why you have emergency kits and 72 hour kits, not judging just curious , i live in Scotland and have never heard of them before ?
Thanks for asking! I have them in case we have an emergency where we have to leave our home or we are stuck at home with no stores open or running water. I hope that helps!
@@reallifewithali thanks for letting me know , i sincerely hope you and your family never have need of them - every day is a school day 😊
@@DannaHiggins Thank you!
Oh man! At least your bathroom project is done, right? Good luck getting all the bathroom clutter out!
My friend whom live in California uses bungee cords to hold her canning jars in place on the shelves. Hope it helps..
Thanks! I did end up doing that!
🤩🤩🤩🤩
If/when you donate an item that needs fixing, do you do this via a local neighbourhood group or put it up for free on Facebook marketplace or something similar? I don't think it's good practice to take broken items to a donation centre.
Sometimes I do that. Sometimes I do take them to the donation center. You have a good point though. I probably shouldn’t!
It helps me when I’m not sure if I want to keep them. Usually the next time I go through it, I realize I don’t want it and out it goes!
If you have a recycle can provided by the city, you can take recycling directly to it and not have one in the house! That’s what we do!
@@laurenmeyer42257 Yes we do have one. We just are too lazy to take everything all the way out to the can. 😆
You are really hardcore in that bathroom lady. I am impressed! Hand tools toothpicks razor blades what an arsenal! I'm really enjoying this, thank you!
