You do realize Toyota has a history of doing this right? Especially with the M series. Also do your homework. BMW sent the engines and transmissions into Toyota, Toyota tested them and tuned them so they DON"T SUCK. Meaning The BMW Engine in the Supra is Tuned for Maximum Durability. and even though its less horse power than the BMW version, the car is still faster than other cars using the same engine that is not modified... GO FIGURE.
Don't confuse Toyota with American made cars...
The greatest car ever made (Mclaren F1) is powered by a BMW V12. People need to relax

@@burqueboy07 yeah but paganis use an AMG V12 yet AMG doesn't build sports cars anymore besides the GT(R), and that car (argueably) doesn't compete well, it certainly delivers NONE of the emotions of the engines used in a pagani. so the pagani engine is an AMG product but doesn't have a single thing in common with any car built by AMG. just like the BMW 8 series had nothing in common with an F1 besides using a similar engine. 8 series = boat, F1 = ultra lightweight sportscar which remained the fastest thing you could buy for what 15-20 years?
heritage / racing pedegree / engine craftmansship (BMW = bavarian MOTOR WORKS) mean nothing today, you just have to remember that BMW will be forced to sell 50% EVs by 2030 if they want to keep building cars for the european market so you can go figure what's going to happen with the art of building something like an F1 engine. the motor works will have nothing to do with that art anymore, they won't keep anyone around who has the necessary skills to create these pieces.
TL;DR -> the engine in the supra is nice, bmw and toyota are both capable of building insane engines, but you just have to take a look at the market to figure out where we're going, I guess at least 30% of the reason why toyota took a bmw engine was the fact that it would be absolute nonesense to develop a new performance engine with the current market tendencies (f.e. EU regulations = every brand has to sell 50% EVs by 2030). just look at the competition, the cayman is using a 4cyl engine besides the fact that the 6cyl was a major selling point of the mid to higher spec caymans.
OK I'm seeing good signs. Hope everyone keeps hating on it. It'll depreciate over time and I'll be able to afford it 😍

That is a huge simplification and not the correct one either. The entire B58 engine was inspected by Toyota with a fine tooth comb and any parts that were below their standards was sent back to BMW to be redesigned using their input. So in reality, its really the addition of Toyota touches on the BMW, which resulted in the most "reliable" BMW ever made....

Great review Matt, have had a 2 hour test drive (I gunned it!) and it was so good I am part exing my beloved GT86 for a new white Supra GR this week. You only live once and you are dead an awfully long time, so its new Supra for me.

Toyota says all the fake vent openings on the outside fenders are actually put there on purpose as much as the predrilled holes in the engine room for installing future stiffening struts amongst many other things.
Toyota says they did that to allow future tuning companies to pimp up the car to their liking.

renee GTR is great! But I think it’s a bit too heavy :) agile and light cars are normally more fun on track, depending on the driver, many Miata beat gtr on track days. But don’t get me wrong, GTR is awesome and fun to drive everywhere, and looks cool. I would totally get one if I have the extra cash hahahhaha. My next will be a Porsche, but I will test drive GTR before I decide on it. Porches are beautiful and fast on track. But it doesn’t give me that vibes like GTR or evo X or M4. GT350 is also sexy but I think I am getting to a point where I can’t decide on these awesome cars for their tiny imperfections.

Its true i seen the reviews. Some People don't like this car, but give it some time once people start modifying then, there going to like it only thing toyota did rong is you carnt buy it with a manual gearbox.
Well technically they are fake.....it's just easier to remove and replace. Which one you remove and replace depends on your goal: down force? Cooling? Aero? You'd open and close them up accordingly. I personally wouldn't mess around with it until after the warranty's done and someone else has done the years of R&D to find the right balance.
I was the first person in the states to own an FR-S (that wasn't part of the pre-sale campaign). I modified a few things then realized I lost the supeeeerb balance and brought it back to stock.
Don't believe too much of Japanese bullshit.. YOu can remove the vent but where the wind going to go.. my 370z amuse vent functional because there are space for wind to go... I block the front air vent since it slow down the car and keep jam.... and dirty my front brake...

While the supra... The front you need to cut up a lot of hole just so you can get a little wind that not strong enough to do anything but reduce the value of resale..
You need a wide body kit just so you can cool down the brake...

At first I hated the fact that the Supra’s guts are from BMW, but after seeing many videos of it in action I fell in love with the exterior design, now I don’t care if it’s built completely by Toyota or not, I just love it!
This engine has a lot of potential, I believe it can be bumped to 500hp with the stock turbos, remember, when they dynoed the car it put down 340hp to the wheels, which means around 400 at the crank, so yes it can easily do 500hp with proper tune and a few bolt-on’s

Sarcasm aside that would probably actually be really cool, especially considering last time mitsubishi mentioned bringing back the evo name, they mentioned a hybrid SUV, so i'l take the mitsubishi S3 lancer Evo XI over a plug-in SUV thank you. Also vw group engines are generally super tunable not to mention (mostly) really reliable, and i doubt that nowadays mitsubishi still have the budget to develop a propor successor to the evos we know and love, without cutting ALOT of corners

As a BMW Z4MR owner, I think the Supra looks much better than the new Z4. It's a shame it's not closer to the FT-1 concept.

The two best current Toyota’s are made by Subaru and BMW. Lol
And lotus uses Toyota engines and parts from ford. The Lambo engine is the same engine in the R8. Alot of company's swap stuff.. It saves them ton of money. Basically do you want to spend millions in developing and making engines or use an engine from a company.

You'd expect it to sound more like the 335i...considering it's a 3 litre BMW engine (not sure exactly how similar to that age 335i, but very).
I like how Toyota knew that bmw makes the best in-line 6 engine in the world. They took the engine, reassembled it to meet Toyota’s standard of reliability and under clocked
erfed the engine to reduce stress to give it that extra durability in the long run.
And its still fairly quick! 12.5@112mph puts it right in line with mustang gt and camaro ss. And those cars have v8s with over 400hp! With 50/50 weight distribution, a stiffer and lighter chassis, the supra should be the superior track car.

BMW built this engine first, and Toyota Teared down everything to find unreliable parts. And then, BMW received TONS of advices to rebuild engine.

toyota purposley put fake vents on there it's for the aftermarket department so if you modify your car you need more cooling so you take it off.

@LoJh23 Cause it's a Supra. The old MKIV was $56k which is $80k in today's money yet pretty much all of them are modified. Supra's whole namesake is meant for tuning.

I never even considered this car. However, today I went to look at a some used cars and the dealer had 3 of these on the lot. A black, white, and a yellow - just like this one. Man, it is a stunning looking car in person. I think I have to drive it now.
