Thank you for the feedback, I can assure you there was plenty of bus snacks consumed over the day... although I avoided Greggs for most of the day! No need to wait, I've literally just uploaded Part 2! 🤣
Can’t wait for Part 2! I love a good budget travel adventure, and the £2 bus challenge is such a fun and creative way to explore the UK. It’s great to see how far you can go on such a small budget! Keep up the awesome content, really enjoying the journey with you. Looking forward to seeing where you end up next!
Thank you so much for watching. It was an absolute blast, I don't think I'd have ever seen so much of the UK in one day without the flat fare It'll be a real shame if it finishes in December.
I keep promising myself i'll do a bus challenge after watching various different TH-cam channels on this theme, maybe yours will be the one! Great video, thanks for posting :)
Thank you for the comment. Absolutely you should do it. Might not be able to in the new year if the flat fare is stopped (be a shame if it is) so get out there and do it!
Thank you, that means a lot as it took ages to edit this together as it's my first real "long" multiple shot video! Part two editing is underway as we speak! 😁
Thank you so much for the comment, it really means a lot. It's the first time I've edited something as long as this so the feedback really helps! Stay tuned for Part 2:)
When I got my free bus pass in about 2010 I used it to travel as far as possible for nothing before returning. I found that on the ordinary buses, catching the first bus after 9.30am I could go about 70 miles before stopping and returning home by 8pm, average speed about 10 miles per hour. On Saturdays I could start at 6 am and go much further.
Thank you for watching! It was a great day out and I think I'll do another before the end of the cap. Must admit I'm jealous and can't wait to get my bus pass, free travel sounds amazing 😍
@@backpack-travels-uk Enjoyed your video, wish I had the stamina to do it! When I started there were no ways of doing the journey planning easily -it was a matter of getting a route for about 20 miles to a main town in the next bus region then another planning exercise. I eventually had printed paper timetables (and sometimes maps) for all the surrounding regions. When I went I had alternate buses and routes and destinations ready. For me it was as good as a game of chess - - planning for all happenings. Nowadays the mental exercise has gone, it's just routine. The only anxiety is "will I make the next bus?" And for the vast majority of the time the answer is "yes". Except my local bus which has to battle through traffic and is usually 5 to ten minutes late, with a frequency of 15 minutes. I travelled all over the place, saw towns and villages and hills and valleys I'd never seen from the A and M roads. I became a bit of an expert on bus stations....
@@alanmon2690 Yes, it used to be a bit of a lottery - but that's part of the fun I guess. I tried to not OVER plan my route but I had a fair idea of where I wanted to end up when I planned it. Thankfully the availability of online timetables and services like Traveline and Bus Times makes it SO much easier now.
@@Paul-js4ch Thank you for watching. Just editing part 2 this week and hope to have it out shortly... There might even be a part 3 as I realised I have so much footage!
I did finally get to leave Wakefield. But it wasn't a great journey from Wakefield. Thankfully it was lunch after so it didn't matter too much that I was made late! Part 2 be up this weekend hopefully.
Thank you for watching. That is interesting, it always amazes me how much you can change a narrative through statistics from different sources. It certainly didn't feel very green when I went through 🤣
@@backpack-travels-uk Seems to be what they include in the scoring: Sheffield does seem to win on numbers of parks, but number of trees is similar to a number of other cities and Sheffield seems to fall quite low in air quality which pushes it down some lists
Last week, not as part of a challenge, out of necessity, I travelled from Cambridge to Luton via St Neots and Bedford. Two buses 3hrs and £4... bargain! The Bedford - Luton bus goes to Milton Keynes, very odd route. Maybe an idea for you?
I had thought of doing a nice circular route from the midlands through East Anglia and then to London so I might just do that! Not long left to take advantage of the flat fare.
As for how far the £2 fare cap can get you, it should get you as far as Berwick Upon Tweed but the £2 cap doesn't apply in Scotland so it probably won't get you far across the border.
Welcome to the joys of Arriva West Yorkshire, recently voted the worst bus company in the UK and as a user of their buses I can well see why. Constant delays and cancellations every single day, services which appear on the boards and on their app but don't actually turn up and services that do turn up despite not showing on those boards or apps. The sooner they go back into public control the better as far as I am concerned, Arriva are not fit for purpose.
Thanks for watching, yeah it wasn't a bad little bus. I originally used to be a trentbarton user when I lived in Nottingham and was a frequent user of the rainbow 5!
An excellent video. Only one mistake that I could see and you placed an edit inside the video yourself (bus no. But that doesn't count as long as the destination is correct)
Thank you for the comment and watching! Not only did I get the bus number wrong in Barnsley, I also got the destination wrong. I think I was having a moment!
Yes, I mentioned there was a covered walk way to Sheffield. But as they're separate stations I wouldn't class it as a proper interchange like Barnsley or Bradford where it's all in one site. The tram is just outside, you're right.
Sure there's loads of errors in here, don't hesitate to correct me below 😁
This could be pinned, so that it appears at the head of the Comments (and not 3rd from the bottom!) 😜 Good luck in Part II btw 😉
Thank you, new to this TH-cam malarkey!

You know, I never thought I would see my two local cities in one video! Barnsley and Wakefield! I live in the area between the two!
And do you know what? I was pleasantly surprised by both of them! People were friendly and the scenery was lovely.
I have to say both were fairly decent from my very quick visit! :)

You'll see in the next video that sadly that wasn't the last awful Arriva leg of the journey. They really were the worst.
Go from Leicester to like up to Keighley or York via Manchester
This would be a really cool route as you could take in the peaks with the Transpeak Express / Airport 199 services. 👌

Arriva's old motto if I recall was "Here to get you there" which I always added "Eventually and late" to the end of it
