I love how Pollyanna ends up helping people to be their better/best selves. This movie is a wonderful classic !! I’ve watched it so many times, that I’ve lost count. Have it on DVD too. Haley Mills, one of the best child actors I’ve ever seen. Liked her teen and young adult movies too. Thanks for all the enjoyment obtained by watching your movies, Ms. Haley Mills. What a talented family, (her dad) Mr. John Mills and her sister too.... Juliet Mills.

Agnes sounds more like a witch here. No matter what she plays in, she nails it! I will watch anything with her in it. 💚💜

At the time, none of of us questioned why Pollyanna, the quintessential All-American Girl, spoke with an English accent!

No they explained in the movie that her father was in the British Missionary

@@simondesbiens2463 However, in the Hollywood movies she made after this, she was usually supposed to be American, but her accent was still present.

"Are you having a dress made?"
That was a pretty dumb question, when you think about it.

Garrettk41 perhaps it’s the pure ignorance and innocence of a child who never saw someone so readily and willingly prepared for death. Especially considering that she had lost her own parents so unexpectedly who were happy and lively people. After all, she later said to Mrs Snow “you ought to forget about dying, and be glad you’re living”.

Fair point, but that's not what I meant. It's not what Pollyanna knew about Mrs. Snow that I feel should have stopped her from asking that, but what she knew about Mr. Murg. While things may be different today, back then people tended to be known for their jobs, especially in small towns like the one this movie is set in. And since Pollyanna apparently did know Mr. Murg, hence the way she said hello to him, you would have guessed she knew what he did for a living. Then she probably could have gotten a rough idea of why he was there. A better way of her finding out might have been if she had never seen him before and asked Mrs. Snow if he was her doctor, and then she would have replied, "no, the undertaker", and Pollyanna's reaction would be about the same as it is here, only with more basis. And something else, too. I think Pollyanna is old enough that she ought to know that you don't use brass handles on dresses.

Garrettk41 ah yes! That’s a very good point. Especially with the brass handles and knowing everyone in a small town. One might argue that as a child she has a short attention span and might not fully understand the undertaker profession, but she must in deed know that an undertaker doesn’t make dresses.
The short attention span might also account for the fact that she couldn’t remember everyone in the town because she’s still relatively new. And while she might have recognized Mr. Murg she might have forgotten his profession. It could also be argued that since no one around her sought out his services prior to her visiting Mrs Snow that day, she probably didn’t associate his services with the coffin all together completely.
But then again she indeed must have understood undertaker profession to a certain extent, with her father’s ministry background in having to minister funerals from time to time and perhaps working with under takers in some way.
Also I remember the first time I saw the movie YEARS ago, I tried to figure out what Mr. Murg was trying to sell Mrs Snow before she said what it was. I didn’t associate it with a coffin at first...I actually thought Mrs. Snow was trying to get new curtains. It wasn’t until she said she was picking the lining for her coffin that I realized otherwise.

@@lynnefrederickforever724 Those are interesting theories. I've thought of a few more myself. Notice how Pollyanna was busy admiring the satin right before she asked about the hypothetical dress. It could be that she wasn't paying full attention and hadn't heard the mention of the brass handles. But on the other hand, maybe she knew what Mr. Murg was there for the whole time and was feigning ignorance in hopes of putting a new idea into Mrs. Snow's head.

Frankly Agnes Moorehead was more fun when she was picking coffin handles and doing her crotchety act.
