I loved how Shirley Temple's character as the "Little Princess" was charitable with her money by giving each one a present on her birthday when it was her birthday. What was so special while working with Betsy, the servant girl, she shared so many nice things which the next-door neighbor provided a lot of good food and a lovely warm blanket and quilts to enjoy. Even though Shirley later wrote that she both witnessed and endured exploitation as a child actress, she nevertheless came out of it remarkably stable.
I used to watch "Shirley Temple Theater" in the morning, in the early 70's, and I'll never forget when my dad popped his head in, and watched me watching, then said "You know her." "Huh, who?" I asked. He pointed at the TV, with Shirley Temple on it, "her." I was about to say "right", then I saw it, I did know her. His bosses wife at Ampex, Mrs. Black was actually 'the' Shirley Temple, and once I knew, I could see it clearly. She'd been to dinner, and I knew her from company picnics, and she was a real nice lady. Thank you so very much for sharing this video.

This movie is such a beautiful one, especially being released in 1939 alongside Gone With the Wind, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, and The Wizard of Oz to name a few. This is the culmination of Shirley Temple, and she shined with every other actor/actress in this film! Marcia Mae Jones (Lavinia) was wonderful, even though she grew to resent Sarah. For a film that preceded the Second World War is very intriguing, yet presents an accurate reflection of Victorian England, espoused in British culture. Marvelous film indeed!

This is one of Shirley's finest pieces of acting, way beyond the expected fluff and being cute.....esp that moment where she tries to get her father to recognize her. that moment really got to me.
I agree. This is my first time seeing one of her movies, and while I have seen the other version of A Little Princess, I think Ms. Temple did a MUCH better job playing Sarah. She is very cute and endearing, without being cloying and insufferable, like some cute little girls in movies/tv shows (Michelle from Full House is an EXCELLENT example of what I mean. Her ONLY purpose for being there was to be cute.) while also showing Sarah's solemn side. She seemed more like a child and she expressed herself better. The other girl talked mostly in the same tone until the end.

Cesar Romero as Ram Dass knocked my socks off. He did a fine job of playing an Indian, and I remember throughout his career, he could play many different nationalities wonderfully. This and Heidi were my 2 favorite Shirley Temple movies.
I haven’t seen this movie since I was a very small child! It was so wonderfully nostalgic and warm to revisit it and remember all of it! I wish the young children of this generation had the attention span for it. There’s no loud colors or fast action or wild crazy characters. It’s 2022, I am so happy I can introduce Shirley Temple and this beautiful movie to my 10 years daughter. It’s indeed as cute as when I watched it decades ago.
So glad this is on TH-cam. I used to watch this as a little kid with my grandmother and it was one of my favorite films of hers. I haven't seen this is 20+ years, watching it now has brought back so much nostalgia and happy memories. I'll definitely be saving this to watch again.
I've read the book written by Frances Burnett when I was 7, the film has a different end. It's a good movie, and Shirley Temple was an amazing actress. Thanks for uploading this!
@@Kalani_Saiko They actually used this same ending when they made the 1995 movie, except that her dad was actually in the house next door instead of at the hospital, so that when Sara crossed there through the window, there was her dad. It was also a lot more intense because Sara nearly fell to her death.
I'm really glad this movie was on TH-cam ❤️ I'm only 18 years old, probably a lot younger than the rest of this comment section, but I remember my grandma showing me this when I was really little. She always loved Shirley Temple movies. Now that I'm old enough to have read the original book and actually understand what's going on, this really was a fantastic film. It's rare you see a 10 year old nowadays that is that incredible of an actress. I almost felt like crying. I might go back and watch some more of her earlier black and white films
Dec 31, 2020: I dedicate this film to my mother, Mary Louise Trambley, who sadly passed away on Dec 18th in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She was born on June 8, 1937 and grew up looking to Shirley Temple as a role model. Dette, Cindy and I already miss you terribly MOM. OUR HEARTS ARE BROKEN. xo

Shirley , brought hope to many people at a time when it was needed. She took people to an imaginary place of happiness ; if only for a moment ; darkness turned into light.
My goodness, you all honor me /your responses.God bless all your houses! When I was young distant aunt's & uncle's raised me house to house.I swore no one wanted to give a baby a bottle or change her diaper.I was made to serve in military, though not recognized,to survive &feed myself.I pray everyday since 3 yrs old for a Shiek or Shaw to adopt me for Christmas so I could have my own place to live of MY OWN for Christmas; I'm d be the little princess. Thanks again,it's my TRUE STORY.
Sarah is lovely child and kind hearted.. Amazing little girl.. With brave heart.. And godly child..with strong determination and faith.. She rejoiced at the end.. I love this movie very much!!!
My grandfather was born in 1894 and I remember him telling stories of being up a tree and watching the men come marching home from the Boer war in 1902. When he watched this movie with me he said it was quite historically accurate.
And yet her next 2 movies The Blue Bird and Young People were commercial and critical flops and the end of her contract at 20th Century. The Little Princess was definitely one of her best films.
Shirley Temple was such a cutie. My mom always did curls with my short hair exactly to look like Shirley's hair, even though I was way younger than her. Now when I look back I think Shirley might have been one of my mom's favorite actors.
I want to thank you so very much and ALL who made this possible to be able to see once more these GREAT MOVIES and some that I missed along the way.👌👏🖒

It’s 2022, I am so happy I can introduce Shirley Temple and this beautiful movie to my 10 years daughter. It’s indeed as cute as when I watched it decades ago.
The innocence of this movie is priceless.
Ahhhh. Love Shirley Temple
So lucky for Sara and now Becky and their father, Captain Crewe and their fortune restored
So glad this is on TH-cam. I used to watch this as a little kid with my grandmother and it was one of my favorite films of hers. I haven't seen this is 20+ years, watching it now has brought back so much nostalgia and happy memories. I'll definitely be saving this to watch again.
Copilul actor cunoscut în toată lumea !
Întâlnire nostalgică a trecutului atât de îndepărtat !
Mulțumiri !
I think I’ve watched this close to 100 times over the years lololol she was so talented 💖
I've read the book written by Frances Burnett when I was 7, the film has a different end. It's a good movie, and Shirley Temple was an amazing actress. Thanks for uploading this!
Yeah the movie ending is better than the book, not that there's a problem with the book ending...
@@Kalani_Saiko They actually used this same ending when they made the 1995 movie, except that her dad was actually in the house next door instead of at the hospital, so that when Sara crossed there through the window, there was her dad. It was also a lot more intense because Sara nearly fell to her death.
@@curtthegamer934 that was my first movie version! There’s three including Shirley
I might go back and watch some more of her earlier black and white films
hi, I also like these movies even though I'm 18.
@@FlowerCorn me too 18 as well
I’m even 15 haha
I'm 14 i guess the youngest in this cmmnt section
You kids are awesome! This classic is wonderful. Thank you for keeping it popular!!!
I loved this movie when I was younger, never realized when it was taken place. There is so much that I missed in the movie, when I was younger.
I loved this movie as a kid. I used to watch it on TV every time it was on.

Thank you very much for uploading this movie. I remember watching this when I was 7 years old. I am 43 now.
My grandfather was born in 1894 and I remember him telling stories of being up a tree and watching the men come marching home from the Boer war in
1902. When he watched this movie with me he said it was quite historically accurate.
cool. history in the making
Thank you, I thought it was the Boer Wars!
I like the portrayal of Queen Victoria when she helped Sarah find her pops, 🤔💎👼👍✌️💙😢😔🌠✨🍀
@Lara Gravenor love warrior poets from Scotland highlanders were always top notch warriors WW2 freedom always, 👍✌️💪💎🙏😢🌠
I saw it in memory of my mother who loved shirley temple...I understand her. She is so adorable !!!!😥😥
It's my understanding this is the movie that really elevated Shirley Temple's status and made her the highest paid child star in the world.
And yet her next 2 movies The Blue Bird and Young People were commercial and critical flops and the end of her contract at 20th Century. The Little Princess was definitely one of her best films.
Great memories watching shirley with my mom and sister.growing up in Brooklyn. I love those moments. Thanks Shirley R.ip
Love this we girl, just hear her voice,so cute,she'was a great actor,so sweet,an funny,feel so sad for her,wat a nice child.👶😊❤️

Shirley was a wonderful young talented young girl and a joy to watch I have enjoyed her talent for years.
I remember enjoying this film in the mid 1960s. Just enjoyed it again nearly 60 years later! ❤️
Shirley Temple was such a cutie. My mom always did curls with my short hair exactly to look like Shirley's hair, even though I was way younger than her. Now when I look back I think Shirley might have been one of my mom's favorite actors.
I love all the Shirley Temple movies❣️She is one of my favorite stars 🌟

@@ramoncurry4281 Thank you my friend 🙏✝️
I agree
Oh this is one of my favourite movies that I saw as a child. Watching it now. Yey!!
I want to thank you so very much and ALL who made this possible to be able to see
once more these GREAT MOVIES and some that I missed along the way.👌👏🖒
I love this! Grew up on Shirley Temple and this and Bright Eyes were my favorites!
😂🎉❤😂🎉❤😂❤🎉😂❤I'M 70 YEARS AND I LOVE SHIRLEY TEMPLE......😂😂😂😂😂😂🎉❤🎉🎉😂❤🎉😂❤🎉❤

We watched these movies on Friday afternoon at school, as a. Special Treat. They were wholesome, and the entire school attended.
It brought me to tears God bless Shirley temple🙏🙏😢😉
Thank God I found this movie, been searching for it for my kids.
I saw the 1995 version and loved it so I'm excited to see this one.
I can never forget this film. It is same living now. Money have power. But truths, love and belief to God are wining always. Wonderfully film comedy. Thank you
Shirley Temple was an amazing little artist 👍
Reminds of the time when I would watch this classic with my dad🙏🏼💛. Rip dad🙏🏼💛
This was one of my favorite movies as a little girl oh my God I'm so happy that it's here

Toute mon enfance. Merci.
Mine too always loved Shirley Temple movies ever since I was a little girl too !
I saw a book where she forged a path which allowed her to find happiness. I think that the author was holly Webb.
A Pequena Princesa é o nome do livro desse filme, (The Little Princess) a autora é
Frances Hodgson Burnett
