*Didn't You Know?* Sonic Colors was actually supposed to be called Sonic Red / Blue. It was going to be a reference to the naming convention of Pokemon, as it was Sega's first time having a Sonic game sold exclusively on Nintendo consoles. However, the developers misunderstood the instructions to give it a "Pokemon-like name," and ended up naming the final product Sonic Colors.

As much crap as Colors gets recently, I still think it’s a good time and felt that Sonic Team had a strong idea and concept for this.

I own the DS version and it feels great, the funny thing is it has a real super sonic boss fight if you can collect all the chaos emeralds

Colors and unleashed were honestly pretty good games imo. I remember getting unleashed for the ps2, and despite the fact that it hardly looked anything like the fancier ps3/360 console versions, it kept me engaged, particularly on the day stages.
Also, apparently the ps2/wii versions got better ratings, despite the worse graphics, so developing a ps2 version was actually a good investment.
The DS version was lit and still is one of my favorite games of all time

I nearly did as well... even after I stopped playing the game I blasted the hell out of the song.
I don't care if reach for the stars and speak with your heart is autotune (I don't really like autotune). But these songs are awesome and unappreciated.
I agree with all of this. Especially the sound track. When I was little I used to keep on exiting and entering the game so I could hear the main intro over and over again.
This game is such a huge part of my childhood. I even played the Ds version, and even if it wasn't as good as the Wii version, it still had some amazing moments like the true ending with Supersonic and generally good gameplay. I really love Sonic Colors. The amazing soundtrack, concept, gameplay (including bosses), Story and overall design make this piece of art stick out as one of my happiest memories of playing video games.
I have massive respect for the 3-D world designers. The amount to render in relation to speed must be a massive undertaking, and I appreciate the Sonic team for putting real care into these set peices
That music is so nostalgic to me, I remember going to my friends house and playing this game for the first time and hearing reach for the stars, forever will be the beloved moment of my childhood
Thanks to Mario and Sonic 2012 introducing me to the blue blur, this and the DS version were the first Sonic games I’ve played and I’ve been a Sonic Fan since.
Anyone can complain about this game in any way possible, but I put my hand in my heart, and hope that they will *NEVER* hate this gorgeous soundtrack!

This game is at its worst when you have to make precise jumps
But it still holds a special place in my heart because when I was a kid, my hamster died and this game temporarily made me feel better. I’ll always remember it as one of my favorite childhood games, as well as the fact that it had the most badass final boss theme in existence.
This was the only sonic game I could ever properly compete as a child, and I still love it. I especially remember the rainbow carnival boss as one of the most fun levels in the game for me.
I’m sad to hear that the Head Hawk Himself has had an unfortunate bad and year but I’m really really glad that he’s back to videos , I honestly didn’t know how much I missed his content until he started uploading again

@@silokhawk I've actually done some analytics on this subject and I have determined that:
40 of Sonic Colors' stages are majority 2D,
14 are majority 3D,
12 are an even split of both.
Discounting the evenly-split levels, since those wouldn't influence the total ratio, that makes roughly 65% of Sonic Colors take place in a side-scrolling perspective.
Of course, these are very rough estimates, but surely you see my point, yeah?
@@silokhawk Well, let's see if I can convince you:
Firstly, what does "2.5D" actually mean, by your metric? Like, beyond the marketing, what does it mean gameplay-wise? Is there a functional difference between "2D" and "2.5D?" From where I'm standing, there is not. You are restricted to the X and the Y axis. 2-dimensional gameplay.
Secondly, let's look at the few "3D" sections that are actually present in Colors. How many of these sections actually require the player to move on all 3 axis? Sure, there are sections where the camera is behind Sonic, but many of them only require the player to, once again, focus on two axis. This time, however, it's on the Y and the Z axis. It's still 2-dimensional, just with a different perspective. Of course, that's not the case all the time.
There are sections that have actual 3D platforming and navigation, but they do not take up enough of the runtime of the game to justify the title of "3D Sonic Game" in my eyes.
Thoughts?
@Beast Mode Not much happened. It was just us debating what should be defined as "3D Sonic." To me, if I can only move Sonic on 2 axis, then it's 2D.
Now, pay attention to that: that definition doesn't care what camera angle we're at. So, in Sonic Forces' case, in sections where the camera is behind Sonic, but the player can effectively only move forward and jump, then it's still a 2D section, regardless of the camera angle.
I remember playing the DS version the most. It's kinda different. I remember the dark whisp being different specifically. A video specifically on the differences between the differences would be great.

The ds version only has 5 wisps and that “dark” wisp is the Violet Wisp (also known as my favourite wisp)
This game gave me some of the fondest memories of my childhood.
I played this game about 6 years ago, and the only thing I remembered was that theme.
Sonic Colours is an amazing game. I remember first playing it on the DS which wasn't as good as the Wii Version of course but still a pretty neat experience, because it worked out really well. I've discovered the main soundtrack again and the Nostalgia, feels and memories just flew upon me. I had a great time playing this game and it's great to hear that I'm not the only one that thinks this way. :)

Definitely my favorite of the franchise, all the more because I love the writing and its style of humor.
Every time I see the opening cut scene I get tears in my eye from how this game made me feel as a kid to me it's better than any other modern sonic game
I'm so glad there's someone else who thinks pretty well of both Colors and Unleashed. Both of which are my personal favorite Sonic games, partially because of nostalgia. My only nitpick with Colors is the multiplayer mode which I could never understand.

Reach For The Stars has been stuck in my head for years.
The one thing I love most about this game is it’s originality. Nowadays you’re used to Grass, Desert, Ice, Water, Jungle, Rock, Cloud, Fire, Boss. But in Sonic Colors you got um Tropical Resort, industrial Candy land, probably my favorite Rainbow Road Space Armada with Star Fox Polygons, Wisp Home in Captivity, Samurai Water World NOT on Virtual Boy, Death Metal Space Fun Fair (or Welcome to Fun Land), uh some digital adventure place with 8 but music in the shape of Sonic’s head, there’s an Egg Shuttle, an Option Satellite, and a cool Space Elevator, and a cool yet long credits sequence
I goddamn love this game , i remember getting it on Christmas morning when i was 7 and falling in love with it. I actually replayed it twice and had blast both times.
I cant help but love sonic colors simply because it's the sonic game I grew up with most. Sure, my brother (who's aspergers lead us to growing up with a LOT of sonic as he loves it) has almost all of the modern sonic games down to the adventure series, but sonic colors was the game I remember most, as it came out DURING the time period I was growing up in. The soundtrack, the easy access gameplay, the simple multiplayer, the vibrant backgrounds and just design in general...just made it so easy to resonate with me, and I will always consider it a childhood favorite.
I also think this game is held in such high regard because of nostalgia (I do as well) in the same way you have with the older games

I freaking LOVED the theme for this game I remember listening to it on my DS for Hours (also for some reason me and my friend loved sonic and the black knight)
I first played this game when I was around 8 or 9 years old and it's still my favorite Sonic game of all time.

This was my childhood. The overall gameplay, music and art were appealing for viewers. The idea of having different sentient aliens which aren't really similar to each other and that made the variety of gameplay more amazing. I wish SEGA made more games like this with revolutionary features. I loved this game. It's a shame that the only game I really loved after this game was Sonic Generations. Again, revolutionary, but it's sad that there's only a short list of good sonic games. In my opinion, Sonic Colors was their overall best game.

In Sonic Colors, Aquarium Park ACT 2 is the worst Level, but has the best Soundtrack in the Game. (my Opinion atleast...)
I absolutely A D O R E this game, it is definitely my favorite 3D/modern Sonic game and it really, really needs an HD Remaster for Switch/PS4/XBOX ONE/PC

Besides the Wii version, you should've played the DS version of Sonic Colors too. I never got to play the Wii version but I can tell it was pretty fun, but the DS version is way better.
- Great dialogue with nice jokes and references
- Beautiful graphics and level designs that remind you of the Sonic Advance series (and they're not repetitive or "copy and paste" to each other from what I remember)
- Lots of missions
- Special stages that are actually worth playing through to collect the chaos emeralds
- minigames you can play by yourself and with a friend
- and there will be wisps that you have to capture each time you enter a new world (each one is harder than the other)
Sonic Colors DS is just Sonic Rush in space and I love it.
I played this game as a child and I -loved- adored the game it just hits me with nostalgia whenever I hear reach for the Stars

The Wii was my first console...but it never got Sonic Colors, on the Wii at least. I actually got the DS version and lemmie tell ya, it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

DUDEEEE THE NOSTALGIA! I love this game I basically grew up with it (and Pokemon Platinum too)! I remeber this being the first game I ever ordered instead of going to the local toy store, and I also remember me playing the final boss with my nephew but we kept failing so we decided to go upstairs and he would "play" as the boss and I would "play" as sonic, after doing that for a couple of minutes we gone back down and played the boss again and what do you think? yeah we beat it.. good days man good days.

The game wasn't supposed to be released on the other consoles. As far as I know, it was initially meant to be Sonic Generations for Wii but the hardware couldn't handle it. They ended up making a whole new game from the leftovers of Generations with the bonus that they launched one of the exclusives they had agreed with nintendo. And that's why there are motobugs in the game and some other classic badniks that hadn't been appearing in a recent previous titles, and also that's why Colors and Generations are the only games of the main "canon" that were launched one year apart: SC (2010) SG (2011)
Meanwhile Colours DS was basically Rush 3
