      @John Smith Yes, that's what I was coming here to write. I remember that time. Benazir Bhutto' was a re-occurring news topic BECAUSE there was a very high probability she would be targeted for assassination, but she refused to cancel her return to Pakistan, then SURVIVED one attempt to kill her with 2 bombs soon after, STILL refused to leave, and literally was killed around Christmas, I think. It's NOT a conspiracy, just coincidental timing that it matched the movie release.

      Historical note: The conspiracy that Booth was a part of was NOT to kill the president; the plan was to kidnap Lincoln. Booth took it upon himself to shoot the man he blamed for the fall of the confederacy. We know this because the other conspirators were later captured, put on trial, found guilty of treason and hanged.
      The problem with this movie and the movie/book that inspired it, The de Vinci Code, is that they must exist in an alternate universe because the “history” in the stories are as fictional as the stories they are in and they require the audience to either be ignorant or not care -which is harder the more they stray from what actually happened.

      @@azzyroth Do we KNOW that, or was it what the government accused, like with Lee Harvey Oswald because he was murdered by mob boss Jack Ruby while in police custody, and didn't get arrested for it, before he could testify?

      I agree. Because nobody cares. The only people who care what dead people did over a century ago are people obsessed with looking good to their designer college friends. Does anyone aside from the Casino Control Commission in NJ say "you know, we need to know if your ancestors murdered someone to hire you"? No, they don't.

      Alfred Pennyworth You forgot to mention who leaves a car in gear on a flat surface without putting it in neutral like you are taught when learning to drive.
      You only leave it in gear on a hill, forward if the car facing up the hill and reverse if the car is facing down the hill.

    • @VincentsDarkFangirl
      @VincentsDarkFangirl 9 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Alfred Pennyworth And why would anyone somewhat competent with driving not HIT THE FUCKING BRAKES AS SOON AS THEY NOTICED THEY WERE GOING BACKWARDS!?
      I'm still fucking learning and if I for some reason forget or don't notice I'm in reverse, as SOON as I notice I am GOING THE WRONG WAY I hit the brakes.
      Also I don't slam the gas as this asshole apparently did when I'm pulling out of a park space. Hell did he even cut the wheel at all? No, which means even if he had been in drive, HE WOULD HAVE HIT ANY CAR IN FRONT OF HIM!
      This asshole shouldn't be allowed to drive.

    The most frustrating sin in this movie is when the president tells Ben that if he doesn’t find the treasure, he won’t be able to explain why he kidnapped him without him going to prison, yet, at the end of the movie, the president just says “this man saved my life by helping me out after getting trapped”
    The entire suspense of Ben getting caught hinges on that scene 😐

  • @andrewstackpool4911
    @andrewstackpool4911 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The scene in Paris gave us the best line in the movie. After all the explanations and the interest shown by the officers one asks, 'And who owns the drone?" "I do." "Then you get the ticket." Beautiful.

    Mkay, maybe I'm remembering the movie wrong, but I could have SWORN that, during the scene where Nick Cage is slowly putting his hand into the eagle-rock-hole...thing he suddenly screams like he's in immense pain and everyone freaks out and then he starts laughing and shows everyone that his hand is fine saying he couldn't resist. Did I dream that? Because I remember thinking that was funny as shit, but I have not seen that scene since I saw the movie in theaters and I am very disappointed.

    • @gameman250
      @gameman250 10 ปีที่แล้ว +67

    Ok, so say Patrick is 70 in the movie, which means he was born in 1937. Say his father was born in 1897, so Patrick's father would've been 40 when Patrick was born, still realistic, which would mean Patricks grandfather had Patricks father when he was 42 given the boy is 10. Not terribly inaccurate. Farfetched, but not really 3 generations off.

      That model of Ferrari, if equipped with the F1 paddle shifter option, has a button on the center console to enter "automatic" mode, which would negate the need to shift. Directly in front of that button is the button that puts the car in reverse. If he thought he knew the car well enough to reach for the "automatic" button by feel, and accidentally hit the reverse button, this could be a feasible outcome.

    • @DanteYewToob

      Sometimes I'd accidentally put my Acura TSX into reverse lol I had a custom sport shifter which moved R from just under park, to the bottom. The slap shifter was off to the side at the bottom, where you just slap it back for up, forward for down.
      If I jumped in fast, and threw the shift knob back, and it sat between the slap shift and reverse modes, sometimes I'd slap it backwards and it would fall into Reverse instead lol most of the time I could feel it going slightly right, and not left and would correct, but once or twice I actually did bump back a bit and panic slam on the brakes.
      Shit happens! Hahaha
      Damn I miss that car. She was a good girl. All black leather interior, gunmetal grey exterior... custom spoiler and blackout kit on all my lights.... fuck. I miss that car so much! It hurts! There's something in my eyes.... sadness.

      Sales person: You there! Want a movie?
      Some guy: Yeah, sure. What's it about?
      Sales person: 10 bucks, please.
      Some guy: No trailer or something?
      Sales Person: Not enough funding to make one.
      Some guy: What, you want me to buy something I know little to nothing about?
      Sales person: Sure you'll find out; after you pay up!

      One thing I dislike about these films is how quickly and easily he solves everything.
      I figure the issue is the writers are looking at history and coming up with some puzzle or riddle and then having Ben Gates reverse the process because he knows history and immediately solves the obscure history riddle. Like the writers come up with a riddle that only makes sense because they know the answer, and so their characters do too. It's not like a clue that he gets stumped on or one that makes sense, it's them making up a riddle and writing the characters doing the reverse to solve it.

    13:53 yes the Native Americans had a *lot* of gold, but they did not use it as currency, they mostly operated on a trade & barter economy I believe. So gold was simply used for decoration and jewellery and in items of cultural or religious significance
    The Spanish Conquistadors who pillaged and ransacked most of the Americas noticed that they had a lot of gold as jewellery and decoration and instead of considering the idea that these people from a different land use a different form of economy and don’t place the same value on gold as we do, they instead decided: “*THESE SAVAGES MUST BE SO FILTHY STINKING RICH THAT THEY CAN AFFORD TO PARADE AROUND DRESSED IN GOLD!! SO THE REAL MOTHER-LOAD MUST BE HIDDEN SOMEWHERE ELSE!!*”
    This is what led to the legend of “The City of Gold”

    Every adventure movie seems to have these secret Rube Goldberg type mechanisms set up to guard their treasures, and all of them are designed to work ONCE. They appear in the Mummy movies, Indiana Jones movies, National Treasure movies, and probably more if I thought about it. And they make no sense. The materials of which they are made would never endure for hundred or thousands of years. And once the trigger is located and tripped, the whole thing falls apart, which either forever exposes, destroys, or permanently hides the treasure. Its a trope of which I am VERY tired.

If Riley was so smart with computers, and coded the deciphering program to find Lady Liberty, why did they use a PAPER dictionary to find every five letter word manually, and nearly give up before magically finding the right word from the story’s missing quote? Couldn’t they just use an electronic dictionary and then get the most probable results? I’m pretty sure Microsoft word even has one with a compatible format.

I haven't heard anyone talk about this, but during the movie the whole room fills with water, and they have to escape through a hole in the ground. If they had just stayed on the water, the water would eventually just rise up and they could run out through that path. Did anyone else catch this watching the movie?

      Why did that last door need opened though? Would there not still be another central drain - since it was closed from the beginning, why would it not still have filled up with water as Gates said upon first discovering the water where they light the first bit of oil? Why would Mitch not be capable surviving by simply returning to that spot? He had to know Ben would return at some point, as did happen. If there was a drain keeping that first room being filled with water, there would still be a central drain, other than that last door being opened, "All this water has to go somewhere...", No?

    4:41 Black Market antiquity dealers? In hindsight it's even more funny considering Nic Cage apparently had to return a really expensive dinosaur skull he'd somehow gotten from black market dealers.

    Actually, black market antiquity activity is very lucrative. Thieves steal valuable or priceless works of art and sell them to unscrupulous private collectors for enormous profit. Tomb Raiders do that sort of thing, too.

    Bonus sin: once in the ancient Indian treasure cave, they say that "All this water's gotta go somewhere," but the drain is only controlled by the manually orperated crank they use to escape at the end. How could the water be constantly flowing and draining if someone had to open the door and stay behind to keep it open? I don't know if anyone has noticed this before (or if there's an explanation for it, but I doubt that), but I just thought I'd point it out.
