In the original myth written in the Prose Edda, Snorri actually says Loki kills Bladr with a Mistletoe branch- not an arrow. Baldr was described frequently as "beloved by all", charming and innocent, he did have dreams of his demise making him paranoid, leading to his mother Frigg gather oaths from all plants and animals he mentioned in his dreams, that they would never bring harm to him. He however omitted mistletoe because it was too small and harmless to have any real part in his death. When Loki discovered this, he got a branch of mistletoe and while all the other gods were having fun throwing things at Baldr and watching them bounce off he quietly approached Höðr and convinced him to throw it at him and well.. you know the rest
as an austrian i always find it very entertaining when people react to the krampus tradition lol and yes i have a beautiful childhood trauma because also in some villages they walk on a random day in december up to your window and scratch on it in the evening when its dark but honestly the shows/parades around the 5th of december in tyrol are a amazing and worth a visit Ps: wish yall happy holidays :)
As an Australian I was so happy to see the Christmas beetle mentioned!! Happy holidays everyone ♡︎ Worlds flirtiest- animals with strange courtship rituals/ adaptations to attract mates (Baboons, Red capped Manakins, Gentoo penguins, peacock spiders ect)
I'm so glad Christmas Beetles got a mention! It's so sad how rare they are to find these days. I remember seeing them everywhere as a kid, now I'm lucky to see one a year.
Omg used to gett flogged by them in the face at sunset, they were given the ability to fly FAR too fast for how uncoordinated they were. I miss the sound of them hitting stuff outside at MACH 1
The craftsmanship going into Krampus suits is amazing. I heard making them takes a loooong time. I wonder if you can do that as a full time job. Side note, kinda reminds me of furries and fursuit makers xD
@@Kimonashi im from tyrol and here you can make good money with crafting the suits but especially the masks can sell for couple of thousands of euros sometimes but most oft the artists also craft other suits/masks for other holidays or parades for example "Fasnacht" is a other parade held in february
You're right in saying that Christmas Beetles aren't as common now. Used to see them everyday during Summer when I was younger (20+ years ago) and now I'm lucky if I see one over the same time period. Thanks for mentioning them!
Would love to see an episode on bioluminescent creatures! Worlds Brightest maybe? I went down a rabbit hole of deep sea creatures after the twilight episode
