Very interesting to see the pros and cons of the comb picks - never been into that topic until now. Great video.

I've got one of the teeth stuck in a lock, been trying for days to get it out but it's sitting fast. Tricyclic 624.

That's a great review and demonstration on these comb picks William :). I have never tried one and really no need ;D, but it was very interesting to watch :).

redcatimaging Thanks for watching Foxxy. Yes, it's a bypass, and not really picking. I would rather try to pick a lock open before shimming, or comb picking, because Picking is more fun. Bypassing can come in handy when you need to get a lock open quickly, and non destructively, and when it's physically possible. I used bypassing a lot when I was working at RATCO as their unofficial locksmith on the side. It allowed me to quickly open a lock for the supervisor, or the owner of the lock, and then I could get back to my actual job. I learned a lot about locks while at that job. You should have seen me try to SPP a warded lock. 😂 Took me a while to finally figure out what I was dealing with.

I got mine out today, and notice alot of keyways would have room if you could lift the pins out of way... like a Peterson decoder or very then piece of metal with an angled tip. Then slip the comb pick pull the then shim out.

Would turning the look upside down be useful to get it into the keyway, past the key pins?

Bronx-LockPicker60 Thanks Buddy. I picked that one up on eBay for $8.00 delivered. It's a small lock, but in great shape, and even came with a box with the good old government stock numbers.

William Mancel Whenever I can , I look for U.S. Government padlocks
I served 10 years in the Marines, those looks bring back a lot of memories.
      Thanks for sharing my friend!

thank you both for your service to our country. I'm not always in agreement with our government but it is because of people like you guys I can be proud to be an American. the way most veterans are treated by our government and most people is horrific... y'all risked your lives to keep us all safe and free. thank you!

Hi thanks for the review do you happen to have a general list of locks the comb picks work on i know the master 140 141 works.

This particular set does not have any four pin combs. Which can be a real problem. The Sparrow set costs more but does have the commonly used four pin comb.

@@macnutz4206 thanks i thought the banggood set did have the 4 pin but
The sparrows set seems to be the best choice thanks again

@@Rocketlockopener I thought the same. I even thought it was a packing mistake until I went to their site and enlarged the photo and saw that there were no four pin combs in the little photo. I should have looked much closer. Bangood does not describe merchandise in the catolouge.
Happily, they were a cheap way to confirm the lesson. Avoid cheap Chinese 'goods' and never, never, eat anything produced in China or something that only says "bottled in America".
They have crap safety standards in their food industry. There is even fake soy sauce.

I wish I had seen this video BEFORE I bought this set of comb picks from Bangood. It has no four pin comb and that is a real pain in the ass. It will NOT work on the four pin Master locks you mentioned. I just bought four things from Bangood and three of them have problems. It is back to Sparrows with me.

The Sparrow's set of Comb picks are great because they have Top of Keyway tension wrenches on the opposite end. The steel is super strong in them compared to the butter soft steel in the Chinese set. Sparrow's only has the 4 & 5 pin set, but they are good.

@@WilliamMancel While I am sure there are some Chinese locks the six and even seven pin combs could possibly pick. But most six and seven pin locks are going to be beyond combs anyway.
I was very disappointed. I did not expect high quality out of Chinese stuff but not having even one four pinner, is just dumb . A decision made by a bean counter, one presumes..Happily I found my dremel hiding in an old tool box I had forgotten about, so I can fix the problem, temporarily.
That was my first and last Bangood purchase. Everything I got from them had some kind of problem with it. Do not buy their padlock shims. For the cheap steel to be strong enough, they have to make them too thick. Half the ones I got were absurdly large and all were too thick even for an old Master lock.
Happily, the price low so the damage is minimal.

I wonder if you could take an extra 5 pin comb pick that you don’t need and cut the 5th pin off of the pick to make a 4 pin comb?
