A visual reference to where the height of the combs on the handle might be helpful, like a cut out notch at the end of the handle next to the combs so it wouldn't add cost.
That seems like a legit idea. I guess it would be easy to add one on these combs if you already have them. It seems like it might be problematic to try to visually line up the notch perfectly with the shear line in the wild. That last millimeter will have to be done by feel anyway,
Just a line or carat etched on the handle that lines up with the top of the comb teeth. That would allow you a tactile feel and visual for the height of the comb in the lock.
So you are actually creating another sheer-line. Too high up and you've effectively kept the lock secured. I never knew that. No wonder they never worked for me.

Can you suggest a company to me please that honestly has good comb picks manufactured correctly. Not made in a sweat shop in china for 10 cents.
I always push the comb all the way up because it is thinner than the diameter of the pins so I'll get a slight movement on the core letting me know the pins are out of the way and just the comb is binding - then I let drop the comb down slowly, letting the key pins drop onto the core, and finish turning the core.
cool thing that I saw you do was to put pressure on the bottom of the comb so the tip of the pick doesn't droop down. easier to keep it level with that technique. cheers :)

I had the SO set, but I ditched them and I'm just gonna go with something more basic. I have never seen a 6 or 7 pin lock that you could do with that attack and then you end up having a bunch of tools you don't use. I'm kind of a completist so I like to have everything available but as I have progressed through trade/craft I find myself trying to always minimize what I have. Like, it's ok to own it, if you want, but there's no need to have it on you. The Chicago set is the same way. Does it work? Yup. Is it cool and easy to use? Yup. Can you use a city and wrench and get the same effect? Of Course. I'd rather just use 2 piece's then rifle through 4 tools, double-sided, so you have to flip each one, and try 8 times Max. Warded's the same way. I have a set, totally work, almost never find warded locks and when I do, I make not of it and bring it the next time. (I have never tried picking a warded, video idea maybe?)

Yeah in a way. But I've recently heard from a guy who made his own lock that it isn't easy to get enough "springway" avoiding that. Your lock might be hard to operate or put much more wear on the springs (which we don't care about while Overlifting) when you simply make the room smaller. But it's certainly possible.
Lock companies who have had issues with it, since only lawsuits and such motivate them to spend the money, will use one or more longer drive pin or a weaker spring, where the comb has a better chance of not lining up right.

Every comb I've ever used was difficult to handle and grip because they are small. I have problems with both of my thumbs tho, and now they are developing arthritis. But during the video, I noticed how he used his other thumb as a fulcrum to gain leverage. I'm gonna give that a try.
Surprisingly, a tropical island with influence from both Netherland and Germany is not hard to come by. There are a lot of them all over the world when I look at the map.
Please tell me what is wrong. Covert combs 16 dollars open the locks i tried it on. But the southord 50 dollar ones kn the same lock wont open them. The southord edges seem real sharp
European lock pickers might want to know why their comb picks aren't working so good on some of the padlocks the likes of Mr Ollam and The Lawyer are opening with theirs. Well, we tend to have paracentric keyways, even the same lock, brand, size will have a nice wide keyway in the US and a tight, off-set (that is, paracentric) keyway on the European version. Many of these brass padlocks are clones and the pins spacing is usually the same. At the end of the day, your 5 pins should fit the key size so there is not much room for making something very different. However, the keyway may be different and not allow a comb pick to enter. I live in France and all the Master Locks I have seen have the same open keyway as US models. But for Abus locks, there is no way I can fit a comb pick while US TH-camrs demonstrate that comb pick attacks work on Abus. Their keyways are straight and wide open whereas mines are tight and very paracentric.

Probably about the same. Once you get a feel for the pressure and keeping the comb level, the height adjustment goes fast. You won't know where exactly the comb is on the shear line so it'll take a few wiggles either way.

However, there are a lot of things I am 100% with you on. Again, would love to sit down and share ideas with you.
One thing I’m finding and correct me if I’m wrong, but combing master lock 140’s that are brand new are hard to comb. I can’t get the plug to turn at all. Ones that are used I can get easily. Why is that?
We have to remember that comb picks are a LOW skill attack, they're not a NO skill attack.
Hammers are a low skill attack too. "no skill attack" is flailing and screaming

Mr LPL does a comb picking on a cutaway in his video 1434. worth checking out, if you want to see how this trick looks from inside the lock
For those interested, LPL also have a couple of the other main methods with cutaway including disc detainer locks, single pin picking and more.

I'll usually just gently rock back and forth and it pops right open for me. I love my LPL covert tool.

5 pin comb will work on a 4 pin Master 140. Master never disappoints. lol Update: I did place a Red Team order and got several of these combs.

Many of these brass padlocks are clones and the pins spacing is usually the same. If wiggling it out won't work, use a thin stiff wire to lift the pins enough to remove the tool.

You can look up a list of models.
A general way to tell is looking at the size of the lock and the way the keyway is. Extremely tight keyways are first line of defense against these.
