  • Moldovan explorer Cristian Panuta buys and repairs abandoned houses in a remote Moldovan village at the border with Ukraine.
In Pohrebea, Nata Albot, a well-known Moldovan journalist and event producer, is fixing her 100-year-old house with horse manure. She created a platform for those interested in renovating and buying old houses. With nearly 50,000 members, the Facebook group "Mă mut la țară" ("I am moving to the countryside" in Romanian) surprisingly hit the spot.
"People call me, they send me messages, they ask me questions about buying and fixing houses," Nata says.

All old houses in post-soviet countries didn't have kitchen or toilets, they did their business outside in a small room kind of toilet and the food was made on old stoves inside one of the bedrooms.

Nu e corect sa spui că în toate casele post sovietice casele erau fără wc ,pentru că cu toții am trecut prin asta .

Do you know if there's any chance I could buy a Moldovan village property from abroad?
I would like to buy a house now when its cheap. And start to find people who want to plant a garden and restore it in exachange for living there for free. And maybe after some years or in a year I will come.

If you get lucky, you may find some at 999.md. But many just have a sign up so you need to drive around villagers and keep your eyes open.

Hi! Thank you for your comment. Usually, you can find houses on sale driving around the town. Or even asking the local municipalities. Or you can check out their real estate website: 999.md/ro/list/real-estate/house-and-garden?hide_duplicates=no&applied=1&show_all_checked_childrens=no&ef=40,41,39&eo=12900,13859,12912,12885&o_41_1=776&r_39_2_from=&r_39_2_to=2000&r_39_2_unit=eur or join this Facebook group: facebook.com/groups/ma.mut.la.tara.md

Who said they need visitors? It's a queit place near river, with great view, were you buy an entire house for the price of 1sqm in the city. Of course it requires renovation but in the end you can have a nice cabin when you need some rest from the city noise.

@@Andrew-wb9kg really ?? Buying a house because it's just a quiet place? Moldova has a lot of villages where you can buy not just one but many more houses for a quiet place. Actually Moldova itself has become too quiet, as long as has hardly 2 millions people.

@@expresserofideas2349 You are buying a quiet place which is likely to stay quiet and eventually be part of the EU but there are risks obviously - one of which is the Ukraine conflict. Another is the infrastructure may not ever get fixed up

Everything's OK as long as you're strong and young. I wouldn't be able to live in such a middle of nowhere, even at the age of 30. No shops - either food or industrial, no medical help, no pharmacy. Ok, you can install a satellite dish, but what about mobile phone connectivity? Because I doubt there's any coverage in this middle of nowhere. What about the Internet? only via satellite, probably, and these are huge costs. It's nice to go there on holiday to rest from civilization, but for a long time or permanently it's a nightmare. What about the water? what about heating? what about electricity or gas? Ok, we can dig a well, install solar panels or a windmill and we have water and electricity. Gas can also be stored in cylinders or in a large liquid gas tank. Nevertheless, life in such a wasteland, especially in winter, is unacceptable.
