  • I visited my grandma in Moldova for 10 days and here is everything I ate in a week 🥰
    [about me]
Hi my name is Rosie, I'm 26 and my life is a bit confusing so i'm writing this lol.
    To make it easy:
    - I was born in Northern Italy, in the region of Veneto
    - My whole family still lives there (mom, dad and my little sister Marty)
    - I moved to Toronto, Canada, at 19 all alone to ✨find myself✨ (spoiler: it didn't work, i got more lost if anything).
So, I live half my life in Italy and half my life in Canada.
Also, my mom is from Moldova (country in Eastern Europe) and my dad is from Calabria (region in Southern Italy) and both my grandmas still live there. So you’ll occasionally see me going there as well.
I hope this clears things up a bit.. or maybe makes them more confusing lol.
    I don’t know, i tried 😄

thank you so much for all the beautiful comments 🥰 to clear up some confusion/questions:
    - this is not Italy, it's Moldova: a country in Eastern Europe bordering with Ukraine and Romania
    - my mom is from there and she moved to Italy at 19, so what you see in this video is my mom's side of the family
    - I'm half Italian (dad's side) and half Moldovan (mom's side)
    - Italian is my first language, Romanian is my second and English is my third - I don't speak/know Russian
    💗💗

It is fascinating to see just how all Eastern European/Slavic countries have similarities, I am from Bosnia, but like this village life is the same in Bosnia, the food almost identical in certain dishes i.e kompat, sarmale (we call them kompot and sarme), how people dress, the decor, the drawings in the school. It is very homey to watch these kinds of videos and I regret that I was not able to record my own childhood since it would be nice to have those memories, but it is really fun to watch these kinds of videos bc I can fully relate to them. Great job!

Spanish girl here too, I agree with you. The "what i eat in italy" video and this one, both of them, are really similar with the Spanish life: big families reunited for eating, hanging out with really far family (like cousins and even second cousins), being very close to nature and simple life... Especially where I live, Galicia, this is very important, but I can tell that in the rest of Spain we have very similar customs

She taught me how to say her name in her language and even some words, I did the same. Her mother was super nice and always brought me treats and loved picking us up from our basketball practices / games. It’s a Christmas Day today and yet again I’m spending it alone. I’m a Polish immigrant of 17 years in London. My family lives here but they were mentally abusive majority of my life so I cut everyone out of my life to retain some sanity in my life and heal. It’s been like 8 plus years since I’ve been completely on my own and I’ve got no regrets. I’m doing literally nothing today but watching TH-cam from my bed and relaxing after I cooked my dinner last night (most Slavs celebrate on 24th of dec). I don’t even know how to describe what I’m about to say but your channel was recommended to me several hours ago and I’ve been devouring the Nonna’s times in Italy and Moldova like that mushroom Risotto of the Italian one… I made me feel super sentimental, tear up a little, but also bought me a lot of joy, comfort and peace. I’m a huge foodie myself and I didn’t even touch my phone almost at all while watching the Italian week and then I had to Google if Moldavian’s are also Slavs as I understood probably 60% of what they were saying…I can see the huge disparity between life in Italy and Moldova and how the recording could easily be from somewhere in rural Polish village too. It’s simple life in Moldova but so much more peaceful than in places like London or Toronto… Another thing- your filming style and editing- it really makes it so relatable and as if you’re there with all your family being part of the things you all do. That picnic with your entire family in Italy and napping with them was so precious or that beautiful lightning when cherry picking with your cousin in Moldova was magical. I followed you after ten min of the Italian tour and I’m totally going to stay here for a while. You’re a beautiful soul, inside and out. Continue what you’re doing as clearly I’m not alone with my feelings 💕❄️ greetings from London!

maybe this is a weird comment but i just wanted to tell you I really admire how you enjoy food and how you really seem very open to every kind of food and you seem enjoying to try new food and eating in general. I had an eating disorder for about 3,4 years ( i am fully recovered) but i was always since childhood a reeeeallyyyy picky eater and sometimes eating was such a burden for me, and it took me a long time to understand that food is enjoyment too and not only a necessity. So its really inspiring to see how you integrate eating and food in your vlogs. Everything seems so relaxed, intuitive and natural.

I know the western modernized world has a lot of perks and we have great wealth. But I think the capitalistic notion of having to be always bigger, higher, better has made us lose touch with what is really important and what is good for the human soul. We deceived ourselves, or the greediness of some people, that on the other side of wealth lies true happiness. But I cried the last two minutes of the video because I did not want to leave the simple world of Moldova (or any slow paced village I have experienced in my life) you have pictured here. Yes for sure you have your own problems, as any society and village does. But what you showed us, showed me what I strive in my life since a very long time. I want that simpleness. The heartwarming soul of someone who has the time to walk to the grocery stores several times a day and not having to worry about taking the car or having no time. There is such a simplicity and slowness of the day, that 1 week might just be a month and that 1 day in our modern western daily life is like a second.
I know the world is in so much pain right now. But sometimes I wish we could finally go back to the simplicity of things. Having dinner with family without the stress of having to be bigger better and faster. It reminded me of how I grew up in a small village and also my Italian family that had the time to go the grocery store, the cheese store, the pasta store, the market stalls all in one day and that everyday. That is for me the life I want. I do not need a bigger career, it won't make me happy. I want the freedom to cook and bake everyday what is given by nature, I want to care for a home and for a family. I want be close to family and friends.
Shit, I'm sad we have created a society that does not value the proper things and always running after the next big thing and never being satisfied.

A lot of the Eastern and South European culture was created through the influence and mixing of Indo-European nomadic culture(s) , that travelled from ancient India, through Middle East, to Mediterranean (North Africa and South Europe) and all the way to Europe. European roots are Asiatic.
Ancient Hindus and then Persia and then Egypt were once the biggest civilisations...
Fun story : my Kazahstan friend and his Croatian husband - when they got married started cooking for each other their traditional meals - soon they realised that 80% of what they cooked was the same stuff 😂

Wow, this brought tears to my eyes. I am from Northeastern Russia, specifically this region called Yakutia (the majority of the population there is an ethnic minority, and our mother tongue is a Turkic language). A lot of the stuff you showed reminded me of my grandma's and my great-aunt's villages. The sour cream jar!! My favorite thing to eat at my grandma's place. The cows walking around the village, your grandma's little oven, the dishware... It all reminded me of my childhood. Also didn't realize Moldovans also say "da" and "poka". Also that baking soda box gave me major flashbacks. And those chairs being put on top of desks is such a soviet thing, I laughed :)

@@bobababy6089 My hometown Yakutsk is the coldest city, and it's the capital of Yakutia (a region), I'd say the average temperature in January is -48, sometimes it drops to -50. But there are other smaller towns and villages in the region where they have recorded colder temperatures (like -65 or something).

I’m from Azerbaijan, which is a Caucasian country. Our food culture is almost the same. 😊 We’re always having the rice and milk together for the breakfast and I love to add some sugar, we call it “ südlü aş” which means milky rice in English. We’re also having sarmali ( it’s called “dolma” in my country) as one of our main dishes and also kompot ( also called kompot here) as my favorite drink. I’m so suprised and glad at the same time , cause I have never expected there would be so many similarities between our cuisin and another country’s.☺️
