We just bought one an 18 plate, I bloody love it, it's smooth has grunt and comfortable. I find the suspension a bit soft at times but that contributes to the smooth ride. Believe it or not but there are performance parts available for it too, which I plan on buyjng.
I also purchased a brand new Vauxhall Grandland X Sport Nav in July 2019, and fully agree with all your observations. I have also experience the issue with the closeness of the pedals and through frustration I have taken the drastic action of carefully and neatly cutting back the footrest using a multi tool to reduce its width in order to make good to accommodate my size 14 feet, as I found that the excessive width of the plastic footrest was hampering the clutch pedal being depressed especially in an emergency situation. Apart from that and the eco mode kicking in, I am very pleased with the car.
Thanks for taking the time to reply. The pedals are cramped enough for my size 10’s so can well imagine what your size 14’s would be like! I looked at removing the footrest but couldn’t see any way to remove it easily and with it being a lease car cutting it out was not possible. I didn’t have any problems with eco mode kicking in, overall it was a very competent car, it’s a shame it is discounted by a lot of it’s intended market simply because of the badge on the grill.
Very interesting video My Grandland sport nav is now coming up to 3 years old and apart from servicing and a puncture repair it has been perfect. I agree with all your comments except what you say about Apple CarPlay In my vehicle it works perfectly I only have to say Hey Siri(you need to enable this feature on your iPhone settings)and it will make calls,send texts,select music tracks;select radio stations,and will even give you the latest news headlines and weather if you ask it,I think it is brilliant! The very latest Grandland seems to be missing a lot of the stand kit that we have on our cars. For instance:-No remote rear seat releases, no catches to hold up boot floor ,no split level boot floor,no blind spot indication;no switch on centre console to childproof rear doors…..and the list goes on(all these missing items on Ultimate spec having viewed it in showroom) Such a shame Vauxhall have to delete items on a new updated vehicle Glad you like your Grandland! I've just bought a 70 plate Grandland X Premium Nav auto. Absolutely lovely car, smooth auto box changes (smoother than my old Mokka X elite). Lots of toys too.
@@ZerokillerOppel1 in the UK the registration plate/number plate indicates which year the car was first registered and therefore how old it is. A 70 plate is for a car that was first registered in 2020
@@ZerokillerOppel1 yes since 2000 they've been like this. 00 and 50 are both 2000, 10 and 60 are both 2010 and so on as the number plates change twice a year. So this year would be 24 from April and from September it will be 74.
Hi Thanks for the review. I've recently got the new Mokka 22 plate, the well space is tight, the foot rest if used, I'm hitting the underside of the clutch, if not using it and go to engage the clutch, I am hitting the foot rest plate and the clutch so not engaging the clutch. Hope no emergency stops required.

I test drove the new 2022 version this week. I was impressed with the way it drove, but I was disappointed that it lacked certain features other cars in this class and price range, have as standard. I also thought it was a little underpowered with the 1.2 turbo engine. Although it seemed to get along quite well, with just two of us. I think it might struggle fully loaded, up a steep mountain pass. It could do with a few more horses under the bonnet, for the size of the car it is. Unfortunately they don't do a hybrid that isn't plug-in. I am sure that would make a big difference. As I live in an apartment; that is not practical for me. It was good to hear your review. I can't say that the Tech-Line spec Grandland that I had lacked anything, but Vauxhall do have previous for dropping the spec in different model years. the first Insignia Sri I had was well equipped but when it came time to change, the replacement car had been down specced, e.g. such things as manual rear windows instead of the electric, and the Chrome exhaust tail pipe, I went with a Qashqai instead but 3 years later the Insignia spec when I looked was similar to the first one? I can only assume the Vauxhall accounts team try to cut as much as they can until buyers go elsewhere, then they up the spec again? I never felt the Grandland 1.2 3 cyl engine lacked pull, even with four adults and luggage on board, but the latest model looks to be a very different car to the one I had so comparison is difficult.
Very nice review, I'm planning to get this car 2019-2020 soon ,and your video helped me a lot with my decision. My other options are : Ford Kuga or Nissan Q 🤔

great honnest review ,thanks .i now own one .i like the car car, ive got a 1.2 sri nav . the only downside is that selecting first gear from a standing start is notchy . this is not just when the car is warming up either.
Timing belt issue as mentioned in another comment had to have it all replaced. Eco button works when it wants which is not often. Door arm rest squeak far to much when leaning on them. But agree with how good it is 1.2auto sport nav
Hi Huw. Really interesting well presented review. I have had the 1.2 Sport Nav manual for almost 3 years. I like everything about the car apart from one thing which is that I find the clutch release to be quite jerky (mostly from 1st to 2nd) and a million miles away from the effortlessly smooth Toyota Avensis (my previous car). It took me a long time to master this. But even now I still find it takes more effort than it should (and particularly on a hill start). I need to be very exact in bringing the clutch precisely up to the biting point and actually holding it there for a good second before fully releasing. Maybe it is just that the Toyota was so smooth and maybe because I tend not to over rev. But still wish I had gone automatic. Any feedback on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate. I no longer have the Grandland so I'm unable to provide much that will be useful to you and your clutch issues, the only problem I had with the clutch was that the pedal was far too close to the brake pedal.
My sister has a 20 plate Vauxhall crossland x it’s a 1.2 it’s comfy and as you mentioned it’s great over potholes!. However she has voiced and I’ve also noticed when out in it it’s very slow, I told her she should have opted for the 1.2 turbo version if she wanted something nippy. I like the design of them, however I’m a petrol head so I have a 66 plate corsa e VXR, it’s a quick car but the only downside is you really do feel the bumps in it especially over potholes.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I’m glad it’s not just me that the pedals annoyed. In the 2yrs we had ours it was faultless, a little dull and lacking character perhaps, but that doesn’t bother a lot people of course.
@@huwjones5879 if you have had yours three years, about same we have had ours, sadly there was not a lot of choice at that time. We had two options for the Sri one was black one was grey, we had the grey, to at least give a bit of something of a difference with the black roof. It ‘s like you say not anything to special on the outside, but very comfy inside. We have had many Vauxhall cars over the years and in general been happy with them , my hubby is really a Mazda man but Mx5 ‘s . However he also likes this. Pity there are not more bright colours , so many about from different manufacturers, , Vauxhall have pretty much kept the same range of colours. Anyway overall it’s not a bad car hehe. I do think the Grandland’s styling has aged well, unlike its cousin the Peugeot 3008. And that has a stupid steering wheel as well.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. I’ve always found Stop/Start on all cars to be temperamental, on my daughters Ford Ka2 I think it only worked when Haley’s comet was visible! On my current MINI Cooper S Stop/Start was probably the best I’ve experienced but I’ve coded it out in all modes except Eco.
Just bought one today 2019 1.2 SE auto £14000 got a £1000 of at main dealer, a Peugeot 3008 (A lot of reviews compare them) which i would have bought, since i own the old style 3008, new shape 2019 was over £20000.
Hate 3cyls but in the name of economy they are largely what us average joes have to suffer now. Vag 1.5tsi all day everyday. Or the previous 1.4 turbos vauxhall stuck in the astra k. Great engine in a cooking model.

when I drove it I mentioned to the dealer as its my wifes car looking to upgrade as ours is a elite nav model with all the toys heated window and steering wheel and power boot but the new model has none of those thinking of keeping it but trying to find out abouth the wet timing belt as seems to be a issue
On the early versions of this engine the belt wasn't resistant to the oil (bad coating). Flakes from the belt would Block the oil flow and engine goes kaput... No idea if they really fixed that problem or just reduced the changing interval.. and Because the belt is inside the engine it won't be cheap to replace.
@@scotspie501douglas7 my belt was playing up only found out when I accelerating engine light came on and they had to change it still under warranty but they said it was a ongoing problem....
Only a problem if engine services are overlooked. Remove the oil filller cap and the belt is visible. Any cracks, wear or expansion in the belt, go to a main dealership and they should replace the belt under warranty as a known design problem.
Thinking of getting one, have had a few astras in the past, I think the pedals are quite close on vauxhall as whole not just the Grandland maybe? No one has commented about the horn is anyone embarrassed to use it 😂??
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. The pedal spacing in my Insignia were fine, I put the Grandland’s narrow pedal spacing down to the Peugeot heritage. Overall though it’s a decent enough car, perhaps a little short on personality, but of course that doesn’t matter to most car buyers.

mine is 1.2 3cylinder 138 BHP but its the same engine that Peugeot use] mine is turbo always worried small turbo] have been looking at extended warranty mine is 4 years old with 20,00 miles
Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. It's not just the engine, the floorpan and a lot of the rest of the car is Peugeot as well! I don't think turbo life is the concern it once was, if the vehicle is maintained accordingly. I liked the engine, for such a small displacement it had enough pull. Like a lot of turbo engines it didn't like it near the rev limit but in the mid-range, which is where a car like the Grandland needs it, I had no complaints.
Just bought a 19 plate elite nav for my mrs and my 2 rottweilers....pick it up next week,apart from a lovely looking car i dont know much about it.....ill report back soon 😂
Thanks for taking the time to comment. The gear shift was incredibly light, like all the controls, in the SRi Tech line we had. Not all that objectionable, but I prefer the more positive shift in my current car. Do you think yours could be faulty?
My parents have a 2020 Grandland X Ultimate with the 1.6 turbo 180 8-Auto. 35 000 miles on it. I agree for the oversensitive brake pedal, but you get used to it. And the steering is light (except when you drive it hard, then it's programmed to stiffen up). I completely disagree with the "soft suspension" however. The spring seems somewhat soft as it does dive significantly if you brake a bit hard, and it does a good job over some nasty stuff. But the dampers and especially the sway-bars seams VERY stiff. It's good for the "autobahn" philosophy of Opel/Vauxhall, but it lacks some comfort. It also means that this car doesn't lean at all in the corners ! And I push it hard ! My parents have the 19" wheels with low profil 235/50 SportContact tyres, so maybe if you have smaller wheels, what you feel are actually the tyres sidewalls flexing in the corners. Otherwise : + very well equipped (love the ventilated "AGR" seats and the heated steering wheel) + very quiet even at speed + powerful, quiet and smooth engine and gearbox + amazing headlights (Full LED adaptative and directional) + very good handling with plenty of grip, probably best in class + spacious for the size + very tight turning radius + looks great, especially the ultimate with the bicolor white/black top, 19" wheels and Full LED headlights - infotainment and 360 cameras are awful - suspension is too stiff for me, family cars should be tuned for maximum comfort - oem 19" Conti. SC5 SUV tyres have plenty of grip and low wear but are noisy and stiff (running them at 26 front / 23 rear improved it, also reduces the wear, but it's still fairly bad). Also, I drove it from Florence Italy to Paris France in one day (700+ miles), cruising at 100mph on Italy's curved highway. And it did great. The seats are good, a bit stiff I agree, but good. My parents also had a Qashqai before it, a 2017 Tekna+ 1.6 dCi X-Tronic. It was noisier, not comfortable over big road imperfection and definitely didn't handle quiet as well.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to provide such a detailed comment, it's almost a review in itself! Your parents car is a much higher spec than the one I had. I'm afraid we're going to have to disagree regarding the suspension, the Grandland I had definitely rolled on the suspension, even though mine was fitted with the strengthened 17" wheels and Michelin Cross Climate tyres because of the optional all-road differential, I've been driving long enough to be able to tell if its tyres deforming under load or soft suspension. The wheel/tyre combination fitted to your parents car is not going to be suitable for anything other than road use, so possibly Vauxhall/Opel uprated some suspension components to accommodate this wheel/tyre combination? The car that I had was like most modern family cars in that it had plenty of grip, from the superb tyre technology now available, but it didn't have good "handling", the two are often confused. The grip provided by modern tyres is very impressive on roundabouts etc but the Grandland I had would very quickly start to get out of shape on twisty roads when pushed, but it never lost grip, until inevitable front wheel drive understeer when past the limit, it was simply the chassis. This was exacerbated by the lack of feel through the steering and brakes. It is afterall, quite a large tall car. In contrast going back to my early driving days my Mk2 Ford Escort 1300 Sport, with awful 175/70 Michelin XZX tyres, lacked the grip of modern tyres but the 'handling" was vastly superior, as despite the dreadful XZX tyres giving up early, it was possible to throw the car around the tight twisty turns of the Welsh back roads of my youth with the utmost predictability. The chassis 'handled' well. As evidenced by the rally success of the Escort. A Front wheel drive example for a more direct comparison would be the Alfa Romeo Alfasud, these 'handled' really well, no Power steering, ABS, ESC etc all down to a sorted chassis. And the Alfasuds got lighter as they got older and rusted away! I had the Conti SC on my first Vauxhall Insignia Sri 2.0 turbo Diesel and found the grip superb wether wet or dry, but like you also found them quite noisy on some road surfaces. Compared to the Qashqai I had I would have to say that it 'handled' better than the Grandland, although was't as comfy on long motorway trips or as capable on the terrible pot-holed UK roads. In most other respects the Grandland is better. Thanks for your contribution, a difference of opinion and discussion is always good. Hopefully this information will be useful to someone considering the purchase of one of these cars.
@@huwjones5879 thanks for your reply :) Yes my parents car is a high specs, but the suspension is the same. I would have to keep disagreeing with you. The Grandland objectively has very stiff sway-bars and I can’t feel it lean. I drive it back to back with a Mondeo and I could clearly feel the lean in the Mondeo. Honestly I preferred it, I don’t care for lean and the Mondeo was amazing over speed-bumps and potholes. Not to mention a C4 Picasso, now that does lean in corners ! Also, 215/65 R17 means a very high sidewall and a reinforced tyre just mean that it can wistand a higher pressure for an increased load capacity. So I still believe that the lean mostly comes from the tyres. Sidewalls will completely collapse under hard cornering. Even with a stiff tyre. For handling, I would say that we simply don’t have the same definition of the word. I would call what you described has “sporty handling”. And the Grandland definitely isn’t sporty. It’s a very stable car. But while it lacks feedback, the steering is very precise, there’s plenty of grip and the car responds very well to any steering input with minimal under-steer for a FWD. So I would call it “good handling”. Anybody who “likes” the sound of 3 cylinder engines must see things differently to me, i cant stand the things I dont want to hear my car I want refinement and quiteness even from little runarounds cars. Im having to rent various cars atm having sold mine. Ive rented this a new juke a new kuga and a cx5. That was the only one with a 4cyl. It was thirstier but the night and day difference in smoothness. Currently got a corsa non turbo and boy do you near the so called characterful 3cyl thrum these testers rave about. No thanks.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, it is appreciated. Each to their own. I also have a Triumph Street Triple R which has a lovely 3 cyl sound and the Grandland reminded me of that. If you want refinement and quietness then why are you bothering with engines, at all? Eliminate the engine altogether and go for an Electric Vehicle? My Tesla Model 3 is beautifully quiet, smooth and the driving experience far more refined than any ICE. If you want a small runabout the Renault Zoe is going to be way quieter and definitely more refined than a Corsa, and of course there is the eCorsa if you have a particular liking for Vauxhall.
Terrible build quality I had to repair a coil spring and drop links on a 68 plate and now wish bones car only has 56k on the clock and it’s not like it’s been ragged around it can’t pull off fast enough unless it’s passed 2k revs 😅 it’s lovely to drive one of the nicest cars I have drove for comfort but yeah build quality is shocking

IMO over time the Grandland will age better due to is more conventional styling. Of course this may not bother those who change vehicle frequently.

I need to be very exact in bringing the clutch precisely up to the biting point and actually holding it there for a good second before fully releasing. Maybe it is just that the Toyota was so smooth and maybe because I tend not to over rev. But still wish I had gone automatic. Any feedback on this would be much appreciated.

I no longer have the Grandland so I'm unable to provide much that will be useful to you and your clutch issues, the only problem I had with the clutch was that the pedal was far too close to the brake pedal.

My sister has a 20 plate Vauxhall crossland x it’s a 1.2 it’s comfy and as you mentioned it’s great over potholes!. However she has voiced and I’ve also noticed when out in it it’s very slow, I told her she should have opted for the 1.2 turbo version if she wanted something nippy. I like the design of them, however I’m a petrol head so I have a 66 plate corsa e VXR, it’s a quick car but the only downside is you really do feel the bumps in it especially over potholes.

I have same issue with the footrest the clutch pedal, due to being close together. In general I like ours a few niggle bits but nice in the whole.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I’m glad it’s not just me that the pedals annoyed. In the 2yrs we had ours it was faultless, a little dull and lacking character perhaps, but that doesn’t bother a lot people of course.
@@huwjones5879 if you have had yours three years, about same we have had ours, sadly there was not a lot of choice at that time. We had two options for the Sri one was black one was grey, we had the grey, to at least give a bit of something of a difference with the black roof. It ‘s like you say not anything to special on the outside, but very comfy inside. We have had many Vauxhall cars over the years and in general been happy with them , my hubby is really a Mazda man but Mx5 ‘s . However he also likes this. Pity there are not more bright colours , so many about from different manufacturers, , Vauxhall have pretty much kept the same range of colours. Anyway overall it’s not a bad car hehe. I do think the Grandland’s styling has aged well, unlike its cousin the Peugeot 3008. And that has a stupid steering wheel as well.

I’ve always found Stop/Start on all cars to be temperamental, on my daughters Ford Ka2 I think it only worked when Haley’s comet was visible!
On my current MINI Cooper S Stop/Start was probably the best I’ve experienced but I’ve coded it out in all modes except Eco.
Just bought one today 2019 1.2 SE auto £14000 got a £1000 of at main dealer, a Peugeot 3008 (A lot of reviews compare them) which i would have bought, since i own the old style 3008, new shape 2019 was over £20000.
Can't work out how its still going with a piston missing, amazing.

Hate 3cyls but in the name of economy they are largely what us average joes have to suffer now. Vag 1.5tsi all day everyday. Or the previous 1.4 turbos vauxhall stuck in the astra k. Great engine in a cooking model.
Currently have a elite astra 1.6 diesel.. looking for more space as my son growing rapidly. Thinking of one of these myself

I’m not sure the Grandland has much more room than an Astra, perhaps a bit more boot space? However I’m sure the Astra is better to drive.

when I drove it I mentioned to the dealer as its my wifes car looking to upgrade as ours is a elite nav model with all the toys heated window and steering wheel
and power boot
but the new model has none of those

I wasn’t aware the wet belt was an issue. Which engine do you have? Mine has the 1.2 petrol turbo triple which I thought was a nice little engine.
On the early versions of this engine the belt wasn't resistant to the oil (bad coating). Flakes from the belt would Block the oil flow and engine goes kaput... No idea if they really fixed that problem or just reduced the changing interval.. and Because the belt is inside the engine it won't be cheap to replace.

@@scotspie501douglas7 my belt was playing up only found out when I accelerating engine light came on and they had to change it still under warranty but they said it was a ongoing problem....
Only a problem if engine services are overlooked. Remove the oil filller cap and the belt is visible. Any cracks, wear or expansion in the belt, go to a main dealership and they should replace the belt under warranty as a known design problem.
Thinking of getting one, have had a few astras in the past, I think the pedals are quite close on vauxhall as whole not just the Grandland maybe? No one has commented about the horn is anyone embarrassed to use it 😂??

The pedal spacing in my Insignia were fine, I put the Grandland’s narrow pedal spacing down to the Peugeot heritage.
Overall though it’s a decent enough car, perhaps a little short on personality, but of course that doesn’t matter to most car buyers.

How is the Vauxhall grandland x on engine oil? Does it go through a lot??
I only had it for just over 2yrs. In that time it’s oil consumption was negligible.

It's not just the engine, the floorpan and a lot of the rest of the car is Peugeot as well!
I don't think turbo life is the concern it once was, if the vehicle is maintained accordingly.
I liked the engine, for such a small displacement it had enough pull. Like a lot of turbo engines it didn't like it near the rev limit but in the mid-range, which is where a car like the Grandland needs it, I had no complaints.
Just bought a 19 plate elite nav for my mrs and my 2 rottweilers....pick it up next week,apart from a lovely looking car i dont know much about it.....ill report back soon 😂

Thanks for taking the time to comment. The gear shift was incredibly light, like all the controls, in the SRi Tech line we had. Not all that objectionable, but I prefer the more positive shift in my current car.

My parents have a 2020 Grandland X Ultimate with the 1.6 turbo 180 8-Auto. 35 000 miles on it.
I agree for the oversensitive brake pedal, but you get used to it. And the steering is light (except when you drive it hard, then it's programmed to stiffen up).
I completely disagree with the "soft suspension" however. The spring seems somewhat soft as it does dive significantly if you brake a bit hard, and it does a good job over some nasty stuff. But the dampers and especially the sway-bars seams VERY stiff. It's good for the "autobahn" philosophy of Opel/Vauxhall, but it lacks some comfort.
It also means that this car doesn't lean at all in the corners ! And I push it hard !
My parents have the 19" wheels with low profil 235/50 SportContact tyres, so maybe if you have smaller wheels, what you feel are actually the tyres sidewalls flexing in the corners.
Otherwise :
+ very well equipped (love the ventilated "AGR" seats and the heated steering wheel)
+ very quiet even at speed
+ powerful, quiet and smooth engine and gearbox
+ amazing headlights (Full LED adaptative and directional)
+ very good handling with plenty of grip, probably best in class
+ spacious for the size
+ very tight turning radius
+ looks great, especially the ultimate with the bicolor white/black top, 19" wheels and Full LED headlights
- infotainment and 360 cameras are awful
- suspension is too stiff for me, family cars should be tuned for maximum comfort
- oem 19" Conti. SC5 SUV tyres have plenty of grip and low wear but are noisy and stiff (running them at 26 front / 23 rear improved it, also reduces the wear, but it's still fairly bad).
Also, I drove it from Florence Italy to Paris France in one day (700+ miles), cruising at 100mph on Italy's curved highway. And it did great. The seats are good, a bit stiff I agree, but good.
My parents also had a Qashqai before it, a 2017 Tekna+ 1.6 dCi X-Tronic. It was noisier, not comfortable over big road imperfection and definitely didn't handle quiet as well.

Your parents car is a much higher spec than the one I had.
I'm afraid we're going to have to disagree regarding the suspension, the Grandland I had definitely rolled on the suspension, even though mine was fitted with the strengthened 17" wheels and Michelin Cross Climate tyres because of the optional all-road differential, I've been driving long enough to be able to tell if its tyres deforming under load or soft suspension. The wheel/tyre combination fitted to your parents car is not going to be suitable for anything other than road use, so possibly Vauxhall/Opel uprated some suspension components to accommodate this wheel/tyre combination?
The car that I had was like most modern family cars in that it had plenty of grip, from the superb tyre technology now available, but it didn't have good "handling", the two are often confused. The grip provided by modern tyres is very impressive on roundabouts etc but the Grandland I had would very quickly start to get out of shape on twisty roads when pushed, but it never lost grip, until inevitable front wheel drive understeer when past the limit, it was simply the chassis. This was exacerbated by the lack of feel through the steering and brakes. It is afterall, quite a large tall car.
In contrast going back to my early driving days my Mk2 Ford Escort 1300 Sport, with awful 175/70 Michelin XZX tyres, lacked the grip of modern tyres but the 'handling" was vastly superior, as despite the dreadful XZX tyres giving up early, it was possible to throw the car around the tight twisty turns of the Welsh back roads of my youth with the utmost predictability. The chassis 'handled' well. As evidenced by the rally success of the Escort. A Front wheel drive example for a more direct comparison would be the Alfa Romeo Alfasud, these 'handled' really well, no Power steering, ABS, ESC etc all down to a sorted chassis. And the Alfasuds got lighter as they got older and rusted away!
I had the Conti SC on my first Vauxhall Insignia Sri 2.0 turbo Diesel and found the grip superb wether wet or dry, but like you also found them quite noisy on some road surfaces.
Compared to the Qashqai I had I would have to say that it 'handled' better than the Grandland, although was't as comfy on long motorway trips or as capable on the terrible pot-holed UK roads. In most other respects the Grandland is better.

Yes my parents car is a high specs, but the suspension is the same.
I would have to keep disagreeing with you. The Grandland objectively has very stiff sway-bars and I can’t feel it lean. I drive it back to back with a Mondeo and I could clearly feel the lean in the Mondeo. Honestly I preferred it, I don’t care for lean and the Mondeo was amazing over speed-bumps and potholes.
Not to mention a C4 Picasso, now that does lean in corners !
Also, 215/65 R17 means a very high sidewall and a reinforced tyre just mean that it can wistand a higher pressure for an increased load capacity. So I still believe that the lean mostly comes from the tyres. Sidewalls will completely collapse under hard cornering. Even with a stiff tyre.
For handling, I would say that we simply don’t have the same definition of the word. I would call what you described has “sporty handling”. And the Grandland definitely isn’t sporty. It’s a very stable car.
But while it lacks feedback, the steering is very precise, there’s plenty of grip and the car responds very well to any steering input with minimal under-steer for a FWD. So I would call it “good handling”.
I would like to point to km77 video on the Grandland where they noticed that the car responded extremely well in the slalom and moose test with little body roll.

Anybody who “likes” the sound of 3 cylinder engines must see things differently to me, i cant stand the things I dont want to hear my car I want refinement and quiteness even from little runarounds cars. Im having to rent various cars atm having sold mine. Ive rented this a new juke a new kuga and a cx5. That was the only one with a 4cyl. It was thirstier but the night and day difference in smoothness. Currently got a corsa non turbo and boy do you near the so called characterful 3cyl thrum these testers rave about. No thanks.

Each to their own. I also have a Triumph Street Triple R which has a lovely 3 cyl sound and the Grandland reminded me of that.
If you want refinement and quietness then why are you bothering with engines, at all?
Eliminate the engine altogether and go for an Electric Vehicle? My Tesla Model 3 is beautifully quiet, smooth and the driving experience far more refined than any ICE.
If you want a small runabout the Renault Zoe is going to be way quieter and definitely more refined than a Corsa, and of course there is the eCorsa if you have a particular liking for Vauxhall.
Terrible build quality I had to repair a coil spring and drop links on a 68 plate and now wish bones car only has 56k on the clock and it’s not like it’s been ragged around it can’t pull off fast enough unless it’s passed 2k revs 😅 it’s lovely to drive one of the nicest cars I have drove for comfort but yeah build quality is shocking

@@Iamhudson89 How have you gotten on with the belt? Have you saw the stuff about the "Special Coverage" for the timing belt? There's a couple Facebook groups with tales of peoples timing belt woes; "Grandland owners group (UK)" and "Opel/Vauxhall Grandland X Club".
Buy a Peugeot 3008 instead, you won’t regret it.

IMO over time the Grandland will age better due to is more conventional styling. Of course this may not bother those who change vehicle frequently.
