In this video we are going to show you how to remove and replace the tail light on a VW Jetta MK5. We demonstrated on the left side of the vehicle but it is the same procedure for the right tail brake light as well. It is not complicated procedure and it will take you less than 2 minutes once you know what to do.
You will not need any special tools. You will only need a 10mm socket or a wrench but socket will be more convenient.

Great video, thanks! Also, in case you loose a nut when retrieving it (as it happened to me), you can insert the top of your phone in the squared open space and take a picture to locate the nut, then with a small magnet attached to a string or wire you can rescue the nut (just like fishing). Or just buy another one ;) It took me about 10 minutes the whole operation, recovering the nut and putting the new tail light.

My tail lights are leaking into my trunk, how can I fix that?
It's the foam gasket on the back of the tail light, if you can't find one cheap, you can just go to a craft store and get some "rubber" foam thick enough and cut the gasket yourself, I've had to do this on my old MK2 GLI because I can't get parts at the dealer for it anymore, still holding up years later
