    Just remember don’t use that MAX tire psi as a recommended pressure. That’s always to high! Always go off the manufactures sticker in the door jam or on the trailer.

    That smooth-rough demonstration is gold, thanks man. I guess my shadetree alignment wasn't so good. Van still runs straight though.

    Great video, answered my question, I had 3/4” toe in and they wore more on outside edge and are feathered. Figured it was from the excessive toe in. But was worried about camber also. Your answer that camber wears even and toe feathers was what I was looking for thanks a lot.

    also another important thing is the DOT date there will be a letters on the side wall around the rim that say DOT a few letters/number that's the plant ID but then a bold oval (1420) with 4 numbers in it those for numbers are the date of manufacture tires last around 5 years in service life the first two numbers are week and last two numbers are year so my (1420) is 14th week of 2020 date of manufacturing. if you find the DOT and it just has plant ID next to it then the plant ID with the date are on the back side of the tire.

    Thanks for the excellent video! I'm just learning about tire wear as a diagnostic because I'm developing uneven wear. I have ~5,000 miles on Cooper AT3's, pro alignment done after install of tires and UCA/ball joints. Front tires have developed uneven wear on the outer edge only, where I can feel 'lippage' or feathering on the tread edges and slots going the long way around the circumference of the tires. Running my hand one way around the tire feels smooth and the other way I feel the sharp lips. Is this the first stage of 'cupping'? Assuming the alignment was done correctly what parts should I look at? A mechanic checked and didn't feel any play in the ball joints or bearings. I felt a minimal amount of play in one inner tie rod end. My struts/coil springs have 160,000 miles on them but still feel solid (maybe the struts are tired?). And I'm doing my brakes soon, I currently feel pulsing during hard braking. Thanks for any suggestions.

      Just reading another forum, and a saw tooth pattern is probably the best way to describe what I have going on.

    • @mancaveautomotivemaintenan5342
      @mancaveautomotivemaintenan5342  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have pulsating at the pedal during braking, you have a warped rotor. Between that and any play in the tie rod end would probably cause some cupping. But struts that do no control the spring rebound will also cause this wear. I would check for worn springs and struts.

    Thanks for the very informative video!I have one question :is it possible that under inflated tyre would be worn out only on the inner edge/shoulder?Well not even the edge by practically the wall of the tyre.

    • @mancaveautomotivemaintenan5342
      @mancaveautomotivemaintenan5342  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Under inflation may make the problem worse, but if it is worn on the inner edge it is toe or camber issue. If it is a one tire on one side, it is camber. If both sides it is likely toe.

      under inflated tires may cause a worn out on the both sides and it will cause a shoulder separation and it will creates heat that soften the rubber,separates the cords and rubber and because of the heat and poor flex the steel cords cuts and the tire will blown out.

    It would help if you mentioned if the difference between camber and tow wear, you’d mention if it pertains to the inside or outside of the tires.
    Mine are all inside wear.

      The video does mention between time mark 3:30 and 4:13 the difference between camber wear and tow wear. It can happen on the inside or outside of the tires.

  • @steveshih4622
    @steveshih4622 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks for the informative video. I believe mine has the camber wear where the tire looks lopsided. Will this cause a blow out even though there’s still it’s of tread left? Rather than just a camber wear problem, how can I tell if the belt is broken or not ? Thanks in advance.

    • @mancaveautomotivemaintenan5342
      @mancaveautomotivemaintenan5342  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If there is still tread on the worn side it is fine, but once you get down past the tread that's when you need to start worrying about it. If you have a separation, you will have a bubble on the tire and it will typically appear to be worn tread on one spot.

    I ran at 40psi recommended was 33psi. Didn't have cupping. Maybe over the max recommended pressure is problematic not sure. The higher pressure improved mpg.

    • @xjustinjx
      @xjustinjx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      highway high pressure for mpg. rough roads lower pressure to save suspension and reduce mpg. within reason to what your max and min is.

    • @mancaveautomotivemaintenan5342

      Since it is both tires, I would check your shocks or struts, whichever one it is that your car has.

    Okay so I have a 2011 dodge avenger. We have gone through almost a Grand in tires bc the back end tires keep going bald. Ive replaced both back end struts, and its still doing same thing. The alignment is on point along with tow. What could be the issue?

    • @mancaveautomotivemaintenan5342
      @mancaveautomotivemaintenan5342  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would need to look at the numbers from your alignment to be certain, however, since the factory has no rear alignment correction and any correction to the rear alignment requires the purchase of after market alignment components, I would still lean towards faulty alignment. If you have the numbers from your alignment, I would be happy to take a look at them. Thanks for watching.

    i have inner tire wear on both front tires, the drivers side lower ball joint is loose, the other side is good ,would it cause the passenger side tire inner tread to wear too?

    • @mancaveautomotivemaintenan5342
      @mancaveautomotivemaintenan5342  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since a worn ball joint would typically cause a toe out situation, yes you would see inside tire wear on both front tires but it would have a feathered edge.

  • @mrmorgan5003
    @mrmorgan5003 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How about a tire that is not really wore on the inside but the tread feels all kicked up on the inside only on the driver's side 95 buick roadmaster

    • @mancaveautomotivemaintenan5342
      @mancaveautomotivemaintenan5342  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is going to be either a toe issue or worn suspension components. Typically a toe issue will affect both sides. Check tie rod ends and ball joints.

    I have a 2001 Mercury Cougar. BOTH rear wheels wear on the inside of both tires. It clunks when taking off, unsafe at speeds. No idea, shock, ball joint? Mount? I appreciate any inside. It has 62,000 miles if that helps.THANKS

  • @Yoglawm

    I came here for the cupping. I have a car that is 55K miles. I recently replaced the original set with new tires about 10K miles ago, there is cupping on the newer tires. The original tires went 45K miles with no sign of cupping.
    My point is that sometimes the tires are poor quality to begin with, purchase better tires if you can afford it, it will save you a lot of money in the long run.

    • @acsugarhere7652
      @acsugarhere7652 ปีที่แล้ว

      if the design of the tires is for off road or mud terrain with big traction treads and you are driving on a smooth highways and you placed it in tire front.position ,both sides of the tire is cupping. but if only one side, check it if is toe in or toe out.

    • @mancaveautomotivemaintenan5342

      Camber and toe are the alignment angles most commonly associated with tire wear and are typically the angles adjusted during an alignment.
