    Great video, very informative. To viewers, the part he replaced is called an "Upper Control Arm" and sometimes referred to as a "Camber Link." Just be sure to mention "Upper" and "Adjustable " when you purchase.
    O'Reilly's part # is

    Precision is the manufacturer

      @@uoyebut2151 probably not the part number, but if you know your make (pontiac) model (G6) year (????) And trim level or engine type (Se Gt GTP GXP etc)
      Rock auto has a pretty good parts finder format, as does o rileys website, and you can look up your specific part that way, which is the same process the employee at the parts store uses.

    your only mistake is that you did not even out the adjuster on the right even adjustment before you install it , you should adjust the length evenly then adjust that if you turn the middle adjuster it will adjust the same length of the adjuster . also you really have to preload before doing the adjustment then tightened the control arm. you are good. its just normal to sometimes forget something but over all you are good .

    You forgot to use your rubber pinch weld hockey puck . On the assembly line only the toe- in is adjusted as all the other are pre set. Nice idea with the level , it's close enough to get to the alignment shop. It's mind blowing the amount of times you hear about nobody has the money to fix their car. Well done buddy.

    I have this issue on my 2010 Chrysler Sebring and I as I understand it they are the same as the Avenger. I have been wondering how to fix it, especially on the bushings. I ordered some bushings from Amazon only could change one because I am doing it all with hand tools. Now, I am thinking I should have just bought the adjustable links. I want to change the other bushings but it is time-consuming with hand tools, but hey got to do what I can with what I got. Good video bro, very insightful... Thanks!!!

    my first time doing the same control arms on my gf's car, went easy breezy. yesterday however , the upper bolt was a PITA , and the one coming off the knuckle is seized into the bushing sleeve like you wouldn't believe. And these bushings don't have much of a lip to use with a ball joint puller kit. probably crater it in the socket. So , decided instead of effing a bunch of stuff up, spent a few bucks on rock auto. I felt defeated . 🥺

    I will say one thing, the thread is reverse threaded on one end and standard on the other end, because the entire bar should be the same length out on each side when installed you simply twist the middle threaded sleeve to extend it while uninstalled you should hold each end stationary while twisting the sleeve from them being completely threaded in so that it is a even amount out on each side failure to do so may result in weakened linkage because say its almost all the way on one side and other side way out it may only be a couple of threads in the sleeve!! And that is very unsafe

    You need to use the center adjuster only......unwinding the inner you have made the threads uneven from side to side.....if there is to few threads the unit could pull out and new arm could fail....that is the reason one side has reverse threads

    Another thing that can cause rear negative camber is worn out shocks.

  • @mpadil
    @mpadil 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Also keep in mind that if the shocks or struts are worn out that 90*degree angle will be off. A lot of people over look that part of the cars suspension is the culprit for bad tire wear.

  • @tom-ns9ij
    @tom-ns9ij 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Why do you think this is a camber problem? In my experience this is caused by a serious toe out. Toe out of the rear wheels, if those tires were indeed on the rear for most of their life, i.e. not being rotated. Camber does not cause such a wear pattern.

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could physically see the excessive negative camber. I don't think this car has toe adjustment back there and the lower arm and bushing was replaced. By using the adjustable arms the shop was able to get it into spec.

    • @titaniumlh
      @titaniumlh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually Nick I have the Dodge Avenger Factory manual and there is a toe adjustment bar for that vehicle it's not the upper arm it's down next to the lower arm and it is called a toe link adjustment and it has a bolt and cam assembly to adjust the toe-in and toe out of the rear wheels I know this because the bushings on mine I have gone bad and I've ordered new toe link bars online and they're being shipped to me right now I had the same exact problem with my tires but yes that tire wear is an indication of a toe problem I see cars all the time that have negative camber on purpose and their tires don't wear out like that you see people all the time lowering their civics and they on purposely add negative camber to their tires and their tires don't prematurely wear like that that is clearly a toe problem

    • @titaniumlh
      @titaniumlh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you would like to know where the adjustable toe Link Bar is just Google 2010 Dodge Avenger rear suspension parts you'll find a website that sells mopar parts and they have an expanded view of every part including nut and bolts about entire assembly and part number 27 I believe is the adjustable toe Link Bar so you can adjust the toe on the rear tires of a Dodge Avenger

    • @titaniumlh
      @titaniumlh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's clearly a toe issue think about it for a second if you have negative camber all of the tire still makes contact with the road it's just that it's slightly different angle in relation to the road but the whole tire makes contact still it changes the way the car drives camber does but it's not dragging the tire the reason that improper toe of the tire wears one side of the tire out fast and the other is if you have an improper tow or angle of the tire in relation to the surface of the road the part of the tire that is at a bad angle to the surface of the road it's not rolling over the way that part of the tire is actually being drug along the road which causes excessive wear on the side of the tire that is being dragged along the surface of the road as opposed to rolling over it which is why improper toe causes most of your tire wear or uneven tire wear camber and caster mainly affect how the vehicle Corners how well it quarters how it acts but the only thing that really will prematurely wear a tire out is improper toe or angle to the relationship of the surface of the road is the only thing that would really cause premature tire wear out you can there's a ton of TH-cam videos on alignment Caster camber toe how you can do your own alignment at home I actually do my own alignments with a stream it's really easy it's just tedious but it's easy

    • @titaniumlh
      @titaniumlh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      By the way I would just like to add while you technically fixed the camber on the car you did not actually fix the problem the problem is is that all the bushings in the suspension are rotting and worn out and everything is no longer Square in the suspension and there's too much slack which is the result is a negative camber but what you don't see is that the toe Link Bar also has a bushing in it to bushings actually one on the spindle and one on the frame and those bushings have worn out to and what they're doing is they're allowing the tire to go be drug in a positive toe down the road which is why you're getting a premature inside where on the tire also clearly these people never rotate their tires so the weird part is is that the only solution is to actually go in which is what I'm doing and rebuild the entire suspension you go in you order you don't have to order all new parts you just go in and you order new bushings and then you can either have them pressed in at a shop or you can rent a tool that you can manually press in your own bushings and you have to restore everything back so that there's no slack in the system the negative camber will just go away because now everything is nice and tight and then you get the car line to correct the tow and problem soft that's the actual solution to the problem but really it's just worn-out suspension bushings is the issue the car will also drive so much better bushings aren't just there to keep everything Square they also absorb a lot of the impact and energy of the road as well they make a huge difference in how the car drives and feels but I understand not everybody wants to spend the money to do things right and they just want a quick cheap fix I can see someone may not want to put that sort of money in a 8 year old car but if you do and by the way the bushings are only like a hundred bucks and then of course your labor to install them all they are a pain in the ass to put in I agree but along with new struts and springs an 8 year old car can drive like you just drove it off the car lot by replacing the bushings and new Springs because Springs wear out overtime to

      @@themechanic6117 do you know if they make adjustable camber arms for the rear end of chargers or Challengers? My 2006 charger rear is out of alignment man.

      They should . Those are popular cars. Check suspension components first. If its out of alignment something is worn out

    Damn bro my cars been eating tires left and right and a couple people I asked what the hell is going on they just said to replace all the control arms and another said you just need an alignment. Well I did the cheapest of the 2 and the people at the alignment said there’s nothing wrong I’m like what…?? So long story short the arms don’t look bad accept that top one the rubber on the joints look eaten up on the back side and I had a feeling it’s probably just that that’s messed up . Seeing your videos just even more so proves my thoughts bcuz my tires looked worst then yours and my rear walls are just damaged from all that rubbing and then I had one explode on my on the freeway… I just hope to GOD that by fixing that top arm it’ll solve my problem.. if u have any advice on maybe looking at something else for my car or something just to check to make sure it’s not something else I’d appreciate feedback… Thank you a lot for making this video bro .. much respect ✊🏽

    Thank you for the video. I have a quick question. Instead of replacing entire camber arm, can I just use one of those camber bolts at the end of this camber rod?

    • @themechanic6117

      Yes those work. Check all your bushings before changing parts. Most times worn out bushing fix problems like this

    Can you tell me what everything could cause negative camber in steer tire? Thanks

  • @cratecruncher6687
    @cratecruncher6687 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Excessive toe is often the cause of inside tire wear. The excessive negative camber just concentrates the scrub effect of the toe into a smaller area of the contact patch.

    8:20 your mistake was you should’ve lowered the jack stand then lowered the jack so the vehicle was level before adjusting the camber.

    Thank you. Do they have this bar on a 2016 Nissan Altima S also? Replaced all 4 tires a year ago this month, Then in December I had the rear shocks replaced and in March I had to replace the 2 rear tires again because of inside cupping. Now, the rear tires have inside cupping again. Something is not right here

    What was the mistake you made? Looked like you put lock tight on the bolts, and then needed to load the suspension and adjust the camber, unless that was anti seize

    You played music😐.
    Maybe no one else does this but I like to torque the nut and hold the bolt. But it was a bolt going in to a welded nut then for sure the bolt gets torque down. And why don't people clean rusted nut and bolts🤷

    Theres a good chance that by replacing the arms you did and at equal lengths and if not much else wrong one may not need alignment depending on the driving and wheel movements in the steering wheel

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its possible but a wheel alignment is best and a lot cheaper than eating through tires
