FORD 2L PINTO - SUMP TO SUIT ESCORT INSTALLATION & MORE NEW PARTS!

  • Welcome back all,
    In this video I get back to working on my 2.0L Pinto, before I install the engine into my Mk2 Escort. I start by removing the old DIY sump and fit Burton Powers reproduction RS2000 sump, which looks the part & comes with all the new shiny hardware too! This is a must if you're putting a pinto into an escort, as the sump needs to clear the crossmember. Along with the sump I also fitted a RS2000 pick up pipe & oil dip stick to suit.
    In the video I also give the engine block another lick of paint & start to refit some of the old parts along with other new ones such as, HT leads, oil filter, spark plugs, inlet-exhaust studs etc. Towards the end of the video the pinto really starts to take shape and I explain that there really isn't much more to fit before I drop the engine in the bay.
    I hope you all enjoying these escort updates as much as I enjoy making them. I've got quite a few parts to fit and videos to make which is a positive, as the deadline to get the car on the road by May is still on!

    You need to set the distributer in the right timing before you start the engine.

    Brilliant Mitch ............after regretfully selling my genuine mk2 Mexico a few years ago in 2010.....watching your videos you've given me the urge to buy a South African import and build a replica because I could never afford to buy an original now !

    hi, elephant in the room, why didn't you spin the engine 180 to put that sump on...
    you did not time the dizzy. crank pulley mark to TDC, cam pulley pointer to bottom dot on head, cap off+ turn dizzy till rotor arm pointing to no.1 lead, no.4 lead should be the opposite no1, no3 lead clockwise after no1. yank dizzy out + turn rotor arm if you run out of adjustment, most bosh dizzys have a reference mark filed in to point the rotor arm to.
    before you put new cambelt on [+ before timing dizzy], fill up oil, take camcover off, then spin up aux. cambelt pulley until oil comes out of each hole to lube cam, should be a good flow on each, not a dribble [i always renewed the spray bar if they had been standing, + usually the cam tensioner pulley as well, spin it + listen, should be nice + quiet]
    apologies if you have done these off camera, keep up the good work young man]

      Thank you so much. Every day is a school day and I did not time the dizzy up with the engine. In all honestly I was wondering how it would know what cylinder the engine was on 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣 Your advice is priceless and I will be following your comment when I remove and time up the dizzy with the engine 👍🏻

    You fitted the sump gasket in the wrong order should of put gasket on engine block first then fitted the rubber seals over ends of gasket and finally fit sump the tabs on end of gasket fit into the rubber seal

    • @angusmcdangus13

      100% agree

      @Mk2Mitch  ปีที่แล้ว

      Lesson learnt! If it leaks I will re do the gasket/seals in the order 😎
