I think Julian was unusual in the fact that he wasn't introduced into the industry by his father like many children of famous parents, he just did it all by himself. Yes the name gave him an advantage, but it still took guts and creativity to go it alone and take centre stage like he did and I've got lots of respect for him for that. He's proved to have a creativity all of his own. Saltwater, for example, is excellent. I sing that one myself, it's a beautiful song.
Julian hated being compared to his father, I think he resents the way he looks and sounds so much like him. He wasn't raised by John at all really. There was no relationship there, there's no reason for John to really mean anything to Julian, John was far more important to everyone else on the planet. John Lennon bailed on his real family. John's father Alf was exactly like him too and John had him cast away and blackballed from recording music. Refused to see him after 1970, didn't attend his funeral. John was a musical genius, but a shitty guy to his close family. He just didn't know how to cope with that part of his life. The reality is that Julian was a far better person than his famous father. He recorded his debut album and got signed without even using the Lennon name, because he didn't want anything handed to him based on who his Dad was. Most people probably don't even realize that John Lennon has two brothers living today who never even got the chance to meet him (they are much younger than Julian too!)
Yes, David Lennon and Robin Lennon are the younger brothers of John Lennon that 99% of Lennon fans don't even realize exist. David was born in 1969 while Beatles were still together, and Robin was born in 1973.
I often wonder what was Julian thinking while waiting to go on stage. I remember seeing him back then at Radio City love his stage presence and his songs and he was so adorable and still it quite frankly. Then me and my friend immediately went to see him again at PNC. What a great memory.. I have adored him then and still do until the end of time. Thank you Julian for these memories of you.

Love this version by Julian. I love his voice and though I see a lot of his dad in him, and in his voice, ... he's no copy-cat, he has his own touch to everything and a different energy. He's not worried, he's enjoying his life, and quietly buying back his father's belongings, some of his guitars, etc. He's a gentle soul , and has forged a relationship with Sean --- that wasn't easy -- but he did it. Such a shame we lost JOhn, such a pleasure to watch his sons grow up.
He's such a sweetheart. Talented, humble, kind and probably so much more when a person gets to know him. He's so similar to his father in some ways, yet different in every way that really counts. He's grown into a wonderful man and it's no wonder his Mom always looked so proud of him. Both Sean and Julian seem to have grown up to be fine young men. Julian looks so much like his Dad its scary. It makes me sad, even after all these years, to think of what might have been if John Lennon hadn't been taken from us.

Julian has a lovely voice, and a gentleness even today -- in interviews he talks about peace and how much he loves his brother Sean, so much he set aside his quarrels with Yoko not wanting to hurt Sean by hurting Sean's mother. This after having to BUY back many personal items of John's including postcards his father sent him, guitars, etc. that Yoko had sold. Julian and Sean seem to be gentle souls and not into hatting , anymore than John was. it's sweet to see that they are close. Each of these brothers seemed to have their father in their lives for only 5 years -- first Julian, then Sean... but now have each other for decades. That they were able to keep a bond through all the stress that may have prevented it, is certainly a great personal legacy to their father. I think Paul should write a song to sing/ play with Julian, the last song he wrote for Julian was to carry him through heartbreak of John and Cynthia divorcing. Maybe it's time for a new song -- one that celebrates the love of John's two son's for each other? For the baby boomers, losses like JFK< RFK< MLK< and John Lennon leave us forever grateful to have had these men in our time, and forever a bit heartbroken that they were taken,--- senselessly and needlessly --far too soon.

I was at this exact show at the Warfield in 1985. I purchased the tickets on Julians 22nd birthday, April 8th, 1985. Julian did three shows in SF and I attended the first two. I know that we were at this show because with clearer resolution (and a bigger screen) I could see my father in the audience. It was special for my parents as well, having seen the Beatles twice, at the Cow Palace in '65 and Candlestick in 1966.

I saw him at Universal (now Gibson Ampathheater) inLos Angeles....and thier was a lovely lady standing at the very rear of the auditorium enjoying the program....a few years later in a mag interview..cynthia Lennon revelaed that she was SO proud of her son in his debut concert tour...seeing him in L.A.! very cool... ^/^
