The legendary Jeff Pocaro was only 22 years old when he did this... not enough people know that name...one of the greatest drummers ever. The toto rythm section.

The bass is part of the rhythm section which holds the song together.

Boz wasn't in the Steve Miller Band in the 80s. He was in the band between 67-68 and was only on the first 2 albums, before his solo career took off.

Good to see you enjoyed that Ethan. "What can I say" is also great. His ballad "We're All Alone" is also very famous as a hit for Rita Coolidge and for Frankie Vallli.

A popular pop song. Hence pop song. The song is about a drifter looking for a big score. It was a popular song probably due to the good hook it had.

David Hungate, later in Toto, played bass on the song. In fact 3 of the players on Lido Shuffle were in Toto. I first heard the song in March 1977 as a 7th grader in a hotel room on a school science club trip over Spring Break in Washington DC. Four of us shared a room and we would turn the room radio on each morning. The radio was actually built into the tv and the tv screen would display weird graphics along with the rhythm of each song played. This song came on, my first time hearing it. The bass line is cool. I play bass myself now.

Bass guitar is, in my opinion, the most important instrument in a Rock band. As a rhythm instrument it helps keep time, but in the right hands, such as John Entwhistle, Paul McCartney and the late, lamented Dee Murray, of Spencer David Group and then of the Elton John Band, in the early 1970s, it is indeed the Bass Guitar. Dee Murray was one of the greatest players, always surprising us with his imaginative and sensitive work on the bass. Listen to the details of what he does on "Rocket Man", for instance, or in the middle break of "Love Lies Bleeding".
It is no wonder that Elton's very first tour of the U.S. resulted in one of the best live albums of all time -- and it was just piano, drums and bass, with the vocal harmonies of Dee Murray and drummer Nigel Olsson. The band will leave you heaving for breath, with no guitars, no synths, no string sections and no extra percussion. The three of them on a small stage were incendiary, and you can hear it on TH-cam, on tracks from "11-17-70", the title (and date of recording) of Elton John's first live concert album. Reviews of this small tour made them overnight megastars.

I know this one because everybody knows Lido Shuffle by Boz Scaggs, even if like Honest Larr they can't name any song by Boz. Wiki has a couple of interesting factoids on it - adopted by the Philadelphia Eagles to play when cornerback Lito Sheppard would make an interception. It's from 1977, and it was co-written by David Paich and also backed by Jeff Porcaro and David Hungate - the three of them would later form '80s band Toto. So my suggestions are Toto suggestions - Hold The Line, Rosanna, Africa. Great reaction, and I always enjoy '70s classics.

Great reaction! The whole Silk Degrees album is really great - What Can I Say and Lowdown are standouts. Band members Jeff Porcaro and David Paich went on to play in Toto which is easy to understand when you here this.
Ethan - If you really like jazz/rock bass the one person you really do need to checkout its Jaco Pastorious. He was the bass player with Weather Report and was phenomenal, praised as one of the best bassists of all time - they are arguably the best jazz/rock band ever, founded by keyboardist Joe Zawinul - and Birdland is a really good starting point for another rabbit hole to go down!

This song is so catchy and fun. I remember hearing it lots back in the day and occasionally on the radio still. I have always said that a good bass line takes a good song and makes it into a GREAT song (seriously, I always say that...and my wife and best friends can attest to that haha!) Bass & drums have always just been relegated to "holding the beat/rhythm" without getting much attention, which is a shame really.
My suggestion this time is for a great modern rock band (no, not CLUTCH this time lol!) This is Rival Sons with the song Open My Eyes (th-cam.com/video/WnEZzLSPNZY/w-d-xo.html). Cheers!

How does Father not know Lowdown? It is bigger and better than Lido Shuffle. Lowdown is #2 on my all-time favorite song list. Wait a second, that is probably why Father doesn't know it - LOL.

Oh ...and Steve Miller KICKED BOZ SCAGGS OUT OF THE BAND.
He said, boz was too laid back...and too good. He was too good to be band player.
Not on the books , but I have it on good authoraton that steve helped boz with first steps as solo.
