Right? I didn't realize just how long I've been watching Jay until this video. I started watching well before this rig but this one, like you said, is so well remembered despite being half a decade ago.
Threadripper really was something special. Even though I would absolutely never want to own one, its still fantastic to look at as a marvel of cpu architecture
The best part about it, is that it was the pet project of some engineers, and they did it in their spare time. Project was green lit until it was almost done lol
Built one of these first gen Threadripper for uni and blew away everything they had at the same price point, two years later used top Ryzen desktop CPU with did the same thing to the Threadripper then did a 3rd build with a Ryzen 3900 and once again got better results, just waiting for a top end 5000 series build to do!....
Totally, it's easy to forget the massive changes we have gone through in the PC gaming industry, i build a pc about every 5 years and every time a lot changes but going back to my first build when i was a teenager, it's insane how much it changed, and it's only when i watch videos of people talking about old hardware to i remember what i used to deal with like in the early 2000's. Having PC's like this in a museum would be interesting and i wonder if there is a PC museum out there where you can see various trends over the years going all the way back to the 80's.. We come so far since my first PC with huge 5" floppy disks, lol.
This was one of the first builds I saw on this channel, and it was what solidified my decisions for my build at the time, which i am still running today. I went with a 1900x, and a 1070 Ti FTW 2 from EVGA. Still trucks along, definitely showing its age, but still plays most modern games on "okay" settings. Thanks for digging this system out!
I am still running that exact setup CPU and GPU wise and it was because of this build that I built it. It's been a work horse and so far has had no issues. Love seeing that thing on the channel again!
This is still my favorite build you've done so far and I can confirm that this behavior with opening windows and programs is totally normal for first gen Ryzen CPUs. I recently build a PC with a 5800X for a friend and was shocked at how much more responsive the system was. A lot has changed in those 5 years and I'm very interested in what you will do with this PC. Love your content.
I remember this system!! It's about the same time I found your channel and when I got back into computer hardware. Surprised its still together! I figured for sure it would be torn down by now like 95%+ of the systems you build because well TH-cam and needing content.
Symbiote is one of the most unique concepts I've seen for a PC build, kinda befitting of the Threadripper name, and is my favourite of yours. Definitely consider upgrading the hardware.

Out of all the Cougar cases this model was my favorite. This build came close to me switching cases. I would mount the rad in back with MNPCTech "Overkill" grills making it like an exhaust. Also solving the fan blowing in face problem.
Really hope you keep the bio-mechanical look to this pc, especially with the messed up tubing and the automotive wrapping on the cables. Looks awesome this way. Having every pc just be all straight lines and clean looking gets really boring really fast.
I just recently watched this build video as I have been watching your old content, this was an awesome build back then, excited to see what you come up with this time.
I love the wire loom. I've got a black and white build so I used white loom to sleeve the tubes for the AIO and it adds a fantastic contrast to the black of the motherboard and the white helps to pick up whatever color I decide for the RGB.
When I saw this build back then. I commented it looked like a modern version of the Jawa Sandcrawler from Star Wars. 😉👍Which would be the coolest case ever! 🤯👈🤣
I remember when Intel was alone...the prices of intel processors were two times more expensive, and the improvement in generations was like 10-15% at most. AMD shook them and made them invest instead of living the de facto monopoly....
It really says something that as soon as he started singing this build's praises, I immediately thought "the symbiote build!?" Damn, it feels like it's been a year, two max since I saw that. Time flies. Glad to see it revived, and super excited to see what happens with it next!
@@MykSShadow I was envious of those with extreme edition Sandy Bridge because I didn't have anything special at the time. I knew multiple TH-camrs with those XE SB, so it's what stuck in my mind as being a proper, high-end build.
I was actually watching some of your videos Iver the weekend and just had the urge to watch the build videos for this system, this build , nebula and the dark Knight builds are in my opinion your top 3 , amazing pieces.
Love the Cougar Conqueror case. Used it for my own gaming rig. Mine is air cooled, so not as cool, and it does get dusty, but it is easy to see when it needs a cleaning and easy to clean!
Makes me cry when you call this system old. I still only have a 3rd Gen i5, 16GB RAM and Windows is installed on a 256GB SATA SSD. GPU is a GTX1060 6GB.
YES!!!!! That project introduced me to the Cougar Conquer case and now I have my build in one. I even painted the side black as well. I have been wanting Jay to do something with this project or case for a long time
This by far my favorite PC you ever built. It was absolutely beautiful. I still remember the way you twisted the tubes to make it look a certain way. I cant wait to see it come back to life.
Just filled with Vue this weekend. Going to see how it does in three months. Drain and refill with new. The list of all the precautions and things you can't do and is long. Like they say you can't have any air in the loop. Reservoir must be filled to the very top. But it does look really good. Went with white.
Love the look and theme of this build! Would love to see a fully updated one once amd comes out with the new series. Maybe Jay can make it in a week like this last one XD
This was one of the first builds you did when I started watching this channel. Love the look with the Automotive loom and kinked tubes. Please keep that look for the rebuild. I do remember thinking that AMD was making a stretch for recognition with its chiplet designs at t his time. Amazing how far PC hardware and this channel have come since then.
Jay, you should look into the company ASML. Intel didn't invest in their newer technology and TSMC did which, in my opinion, is related to the delay Intel had with catching up to AMD who gets their silicone from TSMC. ASML does arguably the most difficult part of making a CPU and seemingly no one knows who they are.

id say with the base black and the available rgb with all components either a neon cyberpunkish build or maybe just a with the aggressive look to the case make it look like a predator tech build with the any display showing the predator numbers.
I still have 2 bottles of Primochill Vue in UV Green that I bought close to 6 years ago, and held off using in my Skunkworks clone that I was building. What’s interesting is with how damaging this fluid was the bottles I have are still perfect, and have not fallen out of solution after sitting in my parts closet all this time. I decided to use RO/DI water and have been using it in every build since.
Love seeing how excited you were about this firing up after being idle so long. Obviously a good build in the first place. I look forward to the update.
I actually do not understand the delay with a powerful system like that, especially on a clean install. My 2500k on an 8+ year old W10 install is snappier.
I feel like something's wrong having that kind of lag. I've got an i5 4570 sitting on a test bench over here and it's instant. Just as fast as a 10700K I have on another test bench, or the 3950X in my main rig. Granted, I get that Haswell has a higher IPC than 1st Gen Ryzen... but still. Seems like there's something wrong.

Yes! Definitely want to see this rig in all it's glory, and a new build on it? new fluid after cleaning? Perhaps some new tubing now that you've learned a thing or two since then... who knows but it's all good there outside the old chunky fluid. Definitely want to see the cleanup if it is gunked up. I second the pedestal... perhaps not even changing anything... who knows. I mean in the end it's a great system and a real history lesson.
I totally agree, i love this build too, the cable runs were so cool and not something i would have concidered untill you did in thus build. An all amd would be cool, and you should print sonething for the front port. I would continue the venom style for the tubing aswell
Boy do i miss seeing two graphics cards in systems. It's a shame SLI and Crossfire were never as good as they should have been This system is the peak of modern gamer aesthetic. It's the HAF with a 5.25" bay res and UV green fluid of 2017 and i LOVE IT

Yeah I mean I love tech reviewers and stuff, but they have so much nice stuff collecting dust after build videos are over. It's really cringe to see they've gotten little to no use as they become obsolete.
Still rocking my 1920x, it did have a 1080 on it until xmas when i snagged a 6800XT for mildly sensible money. Waiting until the end of the year for an upgrade which is likely to be Zen 4 based
OMG... I remember when you built this system. God dammit, Jay; time sure does go quick. Talk about a computer system trapped in a time bubble! Back then I was on a 4790K based rig with two 980Ti in SLI. One SSD and NO M.2. Crazy stuff. You know, I'm almost sad that you want to tear down this system because honestly, it serves as a... monument to just how far PC tech has evolved since Ryzen's initial launch. And if it hadn't been for Ryzen -- if had been Intel who still sat on the throne like back then -- God only knows what abysmal state PC tech would've been in today. Yeah, I am mixed on this, man. Really mixed!

10:40 It is basically water, anti-mold growth, and Mica powder. Maybe a little alcohol and dye. I've mixed my own fluid many times. It'll sit for years, shake it and it's all good again.
Here I am crying with my i7-4770k, 32gb of ddr3 and my 1080 (not ti). That is still chugging coz every time I wanna save to do an upgrade, something else comes up. Every day I use it, is another day I'm thankful that it's still working. Had to replace the aio a few months back - that lasted 6 or 7 years. Replaced with a cheapo air cooler that does just fine. This threadripper although ancient to you, is a killer upgrade to what I have haha
I still think that is a cool case always wondered what happened to it. I bet the cooling is exceptional with the open areas all over. I would buy one tomorrow if decent in price. Call it symbiote ripper. OMG!
Its been such a long time, really puts my own PC into perspective. I can almost throw away all of my warranty boxes, if I didn't keep them to rebox all the parts when I sell it. hoping to move from an 1800x on AM4 to something faster on AM5. Thanks for the 'unboxing'!
Symbiote 2.0 i still love the idea of some sort of h.r. giger inspired alien-ish build in that case. again with the veiny-crinkled tubes that look like arteries.
If I were in your shoes. I would build it into a totally new workstation. A really high end workstation that uses the latest GPU. Those $3000+ ones that aren't for gaming, but can certainly game anyway. And then since the only way to really get any value out of this is to use it. Replace Phil's current threadripper setup with this one. And everybody wins this way too IMO. We get to see a sick build. And a very unique one at that. You could easily drag it out into multiple videos explaining everything, and I would assume get plenty of views. And your right hand man can work faster, and be all happy to come to work since you're so thoughtful. But it's just a thought. Good luck with whatever it is you decide to build. I'll be watching either way. ✌️
@JayzTwoCents I just finished my custom water cooling loop, inspired by this build, I would love to show you some pics of it if you would like to see it. just thought I would let you know I have felt your pain and even worse, the distro panel I bought doesn't have the RGB working and I honestly didn't think to test it so its now full and I'm just gonna suck it up until I have to drain the loop then replace the strip or try and fix this one.
is it odd that the part I got the most excited for was the exhaust being towards the front. I have been trying to find a case/rig I could look into to do that for some time now due to the layout of the room and where my pc sits. it is also nice to see an older rig get some new life I hope to bring mine to new life within the next year or two.
Who else thought PC’s peaked when we watched this build first come together. I remember buying my first bits of ETH after thread ripper launched and CES 2020, definitely cool to know this is gonna come back and be reinvigorated with new components! Keep up the great content jay
this build is the reason i have this case and i still love it - im looking at a personal update myself but trying to find a case that matches this for uniqueness is not easy and i dont want to reuse this case
You tricked me Jay :) I thought this was the new over-complicated build, not an old over-complicated build! I'm a newer subscriber to the channel so I missed this one but now I can see why you like these designs compared to the simple rectangular box designs that other people use.
Cool PC for sure. I like the automotive wiring loom! Maybe get one size smaller or a different color loom like dark gray to mix it up. Also a single 1080 Ti is basically 3060 Ti performance, so I'd expect a bit more for sure where the SLI is actually working properly.

Zen is just a souped up, modernised and modularised version of the K10, not a marvel of a CPU architecture.
my 2920X runs fine for 4 years now. I'll probably replace it next year wirth ryzen 7000, I'll miss the look of quad channel RAM tho...

I really hate the look of the tubing, the split loom (auto. wrap) isn't too bad, it could be done better though.

It is amazing how CPUs have evolved, my i5 12600k (stock) is scoring almost 17 000 in multicore cinebench.
Thought the same, makes it even more satisfying since they joked about the 4 core it's a little earlier.
And my laptop i7 5500U managed to score only 1207 points... This really does show that old laptop CPU's were utter garbage.

The only issue i have with the cables are the cable ties, other then that the lumes are awesome
I agree, the cable ties kinda ruin the look, but when you know the inspiration behind the pc it looks awesome
The Threadripper helped, with a 9900k and SLI'ed 1080TI's I manage 8337 in Timespy Extreme.
Maybe black soft tube (ZMT) would look awesome on this build. New Video Card, Motherboard and storage would do... Stick with AMD!

Yeah I mean I love tech reviewers and stuff, but they have so much nice stuff collecting dust after build videos are over. It's really cringe to see they've gotten little to no use as they become obsolete.
Still rocking my 1920x, it did have a 1080 on it until xmas when i snagged a 6800XT for mildly sensible money. Waiting until the end of the year for an upgrade which is likely to be Zen 4 based
OMG... I remember when you built this system. God dammit, Jay; time sure does go quick. Talk about a computer system trapped in a time bubble! Back then I was on a 4790K based rig with two 980Ti in SLI. One SSD and NO M.2. Crazy stuff. You know, I'm almost sad that you want to tear down this system because honestly, it serves as a... monument to just how far PC tech has evolved since Ryzen's initial launch. And if it hadn't been for Ryzen -- if had been Intel who still sat on the throne like back then -- God only knows what abysmal state PC tech would've been in today.

10:40 It is basically water, anti-mold growth, and Mica powder. Maybe a little alcohol and dye. I've mixed my own fluid many times. It'll sit for years, shake it and it's all good again.
Here I am crying with my i7-4770k, 32gb of ddr3 and my 1080 (not ti). That is still chugging coz every time I wanna save to do an upgrade, something else comes up. Every day I use it, is another day I'm thankful that it's still working.
Had to replace the aio a few months back - that lasted 6 or 7 years. Replaced with a cheapo air cooler that does just fine.
This threadripper although ancient to you, is a killer upgrade to what I have haha
I still think that is a cool case always wondered what happened to it. I bet the cooling is exceptional with the open areas all over. I would buy one tomorrow if decent in price. Call it symbiote ripper. OMG!

This build series is the reason started following your channel . Looks like The Borg assimilated a Cylon from the 1978 series
If I were in your shoes. I would build it into a totally new workstation. A really high end workstation that uses the latest GPU. Those $3000+ ones that aren't for gaming, but can certainly game anyway. And then since the only way to really get any value out of this is to use it. Replace Phil's current threadripper setup with this one.
And everybody wins this way too IMO. We get to see a sick build. And a very unique one at that. You could easily drag it out into multiple videos explaining everything, and I would assume get plenty of views. And your right hand man can work faster, and be all happy to come to work since you're so thoughtful.
But it's just a thought. Good luck with whatever it is you decide to build. I'll be watching either way. ✌️

just thought I would let you know I have felt your pain and even worse, the distro panel I bought doesn't have the RGB working and I honestly didn't think to test it so its now full and I'm just gonna suck it up until I have to drain the loop then replace the strip or try and fix this one.

is it odd that the part I got the most excited for was the exhaust being towards the front. I have been trying to find a case/rig I could look into to do that for some time now due to the layout of the room and where my pc sits. it is also nice to see an older rig get some new life I hope to bring mine to new life within the next year or two.
Who else thought PC’s peaked when we watched this build first come together. I remember buying my first bits of ETH after thread ripper launched and CES 2020, definitely cool to know this is gonna come back and be reinvigorated with new components! Keep up the great content jay

You tricked me Jay :) I thought this was the new over-complicated build, not an old over-complicated build! I'm a newer subscriber to the channel so I missed this one but now I can see why you like these designs compared to the simple rectangular box designs that other people use.
Luminscent fluid with that rgb in the dark would look so sick.

Seriously, this is the most gorgeous pc build I've ever seen. That sentinel aesthetic fits perfect and the Cougar pc case in black looks way better.
Cool PC for sure. I like the automotive wiring loom! Maybe get one size smaller or a different color loom like dark gray to mix it up.
Also a single 1080 Ti is basically 3060 Ti performance, so I'd expect a bit more for sure where the SLI is actually working properly.
Would love to see an update to this build!
