When I first saw this film I lived in England and thought what a cool place never thinking I would see it 12 years later I emigrated to Australia and climbed to the top of hanging rock, it is equally as brilliant as see the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul my 2nd bucket list destination.😊
A masterpiece. It kind of makes me love The Blair Witch Project more for basically recreating the opening. Both films use the power of suggestion and the mystery of the unknown to masterful effect. If ever there was a film used to be taught on how to build atmosphere, it is this one.
Eerily similar to Tarkovsky’s Stalker, specifically one of the early scenes in the Zone in which the building disappears into the fog before our characters eyes
True, what a good comparison. I would of never put them together, the setting is so different (Aussie bush vs/ somewhere in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic world), but the themes are the same - let yourself be free, loose yourself (free from possessions, free from patriarchy/oppression, free in nature, free to die). There is always a cost though, as we see in Stalker (slowly creeping madness; & peripherally, the death of Tarkovsky & his wife likely from the chemicals in the filming location) and in Picnic (disappearing altogether). Stunning films. What a privilege we live in a time of cinema.
Con il remake fatto qualche anno fa l'originale è tutto più chiaro il film del 1975 ha un merito quello di essere un film che ti fa entrare in una sensazione onirica in cui non puoi più uscire
Oh I remember this so clearly and one reason for falling in love with Anne Louise Lambert and all.girls who looked like her. I did meet a girl from Australia but no sign of corsets near her.
This was a brilliant film

All the cards fell at the right place and time. Lightning in a bottle as musicians say.
everything begins and ends at the right time. and place.

haunting
4:42 someone explain to me why in the left part of the screen, inside the suitcase, there seems to be the spinal column of something.
I’m guessing it’s for a biology class of some sort. Remember one of the reasons for the picnic was to learn about the rock itself.
The girl in the shot is also pressing flowers which is also something often done in biology classes.
What are the poems the girls are reading ?
i think they wrote the poems themselves on the valentines cards sent to each other. sort of highlighting the slight sexual tension amongst the girls.
That one is Edgar Allen Poe quote
One of them is either by Thomas Stanley or Mr W M and dates from around 1651. Search 'Wert thou yet fairer than thou art."
Ahhh actress name PLz plz
