Blood can be found in the stool for many reasons, but some common causes include severe dental disease, internal parasites, stomach or intestinal ulcers, bowel inflammation, tumors, and "foreign bodies" the pet has swallowed, such as small toys and other indigestible material. Your veterinarian may recommend further testing to determine where the bleeding is occurring. (source: VCA Hospitals)

our vet has said our dog has colitis ,she has been on antibiotics they have not helped.she had the same problem 4 weeks ago and the antibiotics fixed her ,she is now on prekolin which you spinkle over food.nothing is helping so far,its a very small amount of red blood mostly only on the end of the poo.any advice how to fix the problem thanks so much
Here you talk about some treatments that have been tried but you don't talk about any of the tests that have been done. Bloody stool can be caused by a long list of different things. Most of the time we look for different potential causes and then the ones we've ruled a lot of those things out then one of the last things we would look at doing would be putting the patient on steroids. One of the other things is looking at putting the patient on some sort of hypoallergenic diet. Also looking back into a detailed history as to when the symptoms started and they don't always have to be the blood in the stool there could have been other signs earlier that could have been indicating some sort of GI distress. My recommendation would either be to move forward with testing or to get a second opinion

Humans are the only animals that continue to consume dairy after being weaned off their mother's milk. It is not natural for any animal to consume dairy. That being said will it kill your dog most likely not
i live in a country where is like you rarely find vets like you actually....i really dont know what to do...can i treat it at home??
he's really acting normal...normal eating he's running around and this morning he pooped darker blood
If the poop is a darker colored blood that means that the blood is coming from higher in the gastrointestinal tract closer to the stomach. If this continues I would highly recommend going to see a veterinarian. Even now I would most likely consider going to see a veterinarian as I would like to know if the traditional treatments will get this under control and if not then you will need to be more aggressive with the testing and treatment
Omgosh same and that fact it’s so expensive my dads a farmer and my moms a janitor I’m to young for a normal paying job
I need help ! My dog has been to many vets and no one can figure it out. She has bloody stool since she was two months old and I don’t know how she as not died.

I have same issue. I stop feeding him dog food and started cooking he can eat chicken so I do ground meat or salmon with rice sweet potatoes broccoli and or spinach. You can find good recipes online. Yogurt is good for there tummy to plain 1 spoon
I just adopted this 4 months old girl who is having blood in her stools. Along with her vet, I’m in the process to discover what’s causing it. I just ordered the Proviable and starting that on Friday.

My dog is throwing up non stop, pooping pure blood, and not drinking or eating she also seems really weak and she's in pain. I live in the country and its Saturday so everything is closed. please help!
That is not something that can be helped at home. You need to find the closest animal clinic or animal hospital near you, the severity of disease that you are describing requires hospitalization
Did you end up taking your dog in ? What did they say it was ? Mine is pooping pure blood but has so much appetite and drinks water and wants to go on a walk. He keeps trying to poop because he is eating solid but just can’t poop just poops out blood.
@@sahraakyildiz9726 We took her in and she didn’t even make it a few minutes in there and she ended up passing.They thought it was parvo because it’s really bad rn but they didn’t get a chance to even test her because it was to late.. We believe she was poisoned because my other dog didn’t get parvo and she was younger than her. Maybe you want to take your dog in just in case. My dog was only 2yrs old.
