I work on a company that makes wiring harnesses for CAT, CNH, etc. My advice and I hope you take it, is to replace the damaged wires if there are just plugged segments or the harness. Even if it's not completely melted the insulating material of the wires is no longer the same and it will degrade and not behave as it suppose to.

I'd look out for some good used undertrays. If the rest of the car is fully sorted and mint, it would bug me knowing they were like that, and when you come to sell it'll stick out if someone really goes looking round at it.

10000% vouch for the crap washers from audi. My rear one hasn't worked for years, even after blasting the lines and the old pin trick. Will be ordering one off a golf, thanks Dean!
@15:21 bottom left of the video? Is that supposed to look like that? Looks like it's been melted away? I know the arch liner will cover it, but is that normal? Otherwise I'd agree with other comments, probbaly safer in the long run to repalce any wires that have suffered heat damage.

Amazing transformation to the engine bay looks brilliant now. Looks like the burn damage is not that bad overall. Think I would try to fettle those undertrays a bit and perhaps look out for some cheap ones on Ebay - who is going to actually see em? I hate the washer jets on our TT might investigate the VW version.👍

I would replace the under trays if you are selling, if not then trim the burnt bits and seal with some resin, the corns don’t matter as it doesn’t look to have effected the mounting points.
Great job just shows a good clean can do wonders. And with the parts replaced you can’t even see there was a fire top job. Look forward to the rest of the rebuild on this one.

The under trays - would it be possible to tidy them up by smoothening/cutting the damaged parts and then painting the whole lot? Far cheaper and still pretty tidy if looked at from underneath during a tyre alignment or service.
I'd just use those undertrays for now and keep an eye on different breaker websites for new ones. Veedubs in Gateshead sometimes have stuff for topend audi and vw in stock.
Hi Couldn’t help but notice that the Q5 doesn’t come with drilled and grooved brake discs thats surprising. It’s incredible that fire damage wasn’t actually far worse. Good luck with the refit I’m sure you’ll get car back to it’s former glory soon.

Safe to say you got a good stroke of luck there with the damage and personally I wouldn't bother replacing the undertrays I'd try to repair them if that didn't work just get some second hand ones from the breakers
Make sure you get a genuine Audi drive shaft boot. Aftermarket boots are no good, the rubbers stretch and you will end up replacing them again with genuine ones. You can get just the CV boot including all clips and grease for £50. CV joint at the wheel is £395. Driveshaft complete is £575. These prices were for the rear, so the front may be the same or a bit more 😉 The SQ5 is a great car to own, just an all round does everything car. Been lucky enough to have one myself 🙂
Great video Dean. Lots of good tips on issues with Audi parts! They really know how to charge on slow moving parts don’t they? Interesting bit about the mileage fiddles and mileage retained in other modules. A car vertical check for £12 would also verify this and also any damage history. Looks like this one is your keeper 👍😎
Pretty lucky break on the damage 😉 For the wiring there's places like Vehicle Wiring Products that sell pretty much all the different coloured wires with trace colours so you can do a true like for like repair 😊 Good luck with all that fun wiring.
Hi from durham dean👋 more I look at this car it seems more suspicious theifs usually take stuff or steal for parts 😬🤔 I think possible maybe someone trying to pull quick insurance job (speculation I know ) but looks like just put accelerent in vent that melted of scuttle panel just went wrong for them and reported it stolen after (my thoughts like) cos damage more to inside on way down not enough damage up top as whatever has vaporized a bit and ran down wing 🤔🤔 and just repair under trays mate if more practicle and if some pop up then grab them but leave the stealership ones on shelf lol just one thing tho maybe I would change brake flexi just incase collapsed inside burn brakes from none return 👍 lol but great save man hope she flys the test and that inner wing wiring hope fixes light and no shorts elsewhere mate great job cleaning her mate 😍😍 thanks for you time be safe and see you soon👍👋

This one went one way and the other as you dug into the issues. The engine bay turned out well, but there may still be a few gremlins to clear when you dig through the underside wiring and boots, any chance of a piece of second-hand loom to piece in and replace the main underside wiring damage and avoid a wire by wire job?
I suppose you are getting the info for repairs from emanuals.. i would like to ask you, regarding one of the videos about the RS6, did you also learn about the functions of the intake hose for the air charge through these manuals or just spread across the internet? can you maybe recommend a good website about functions of specific systems of high horse power cars?
Dean, is the flexi brake hose ok? The one shot it looked as if it was a little fried. Also and the windsreen trim on a Q5 there is a cover over the positive terminal too.

The wiring may have heat damage. May cause the wire to break internally. I personally would cut the wire back and replace any suspect wiring

Saving Salvage -when cars have airbags deployed, do they usually start and run? Or need a fuse replacing first?

Undertrays, either trim off the burnt bit and remount as they are, or try and repair with some fibreglass repair

i would try source some used under trays its a high spec car so deserves that at the very least.
That’s not as shagged as I was expecting it to be. I’d try and source new undertrays from a breakers (I’m assuming they’re generic across the Q5’s).
As you're planning to keep it for yourself I would just re use the undertrays.
How're you going to clean the underside? I've heard that dry ice cleaning works a treat. Lovely set of wheels :)
