I would argue that, shipping these two together does not take away fron the friendship and devotion message, but rather adds to it, with interpreting khunban as romantic, you end up spending more time wondering about the ways that khun's deep feelings and care to a point that almost cross the line of unhealthy and how these feelings don't come fron a place of only friendship(even if you only see them as friends, which would be a completelly valid interpretation, people need to understand that khun's feelings are more of a obcession than pure loyalty as it is argued by many) and you end up understanding khun's character more deeply, he is fascinated by people with actual good intentions because of the way he was raised and is willing to do anything to try to help them achieve their objectives, even if he himself doesn't agree 100% with it, he ended up building a vision of bam that is very idealized and someday that will need to be disconstructed for him to be able to really keep having this relationship he has with bam, he has to question how his feelings interfer with bam to be able to be a better companion to him, and that is an amazing message of friendship, understanding your faults and how you have an effect of your friends, critically thinking about your actions because you want to be able to undersand better how they interfere with the people you love is a fascinating and beautiful part of being a friend And to be honest many people that consider only platonic interpretations end up missing on that deep message because they are unconfortable with reading further into things as they can get blurry between platonic and romantic implications and it's a shame, no one should be forced to ship characters, but ignoring the many complexities of characters relationships makes you miss out a lot of fascinating things, fiction can be interpreted in many ways and i love to hear others opinions it makes me apreciate even more the story :) Your art is so so lovely it's very pretty! Your style is adorable
I couldn’t have put it better myself - seriously. I wholeheartedly agree with your statement that seeing characters like Khun through a romantic lens can give us insights not only into aspects that are unseen in canon, but also help inform his original character within the original work. Thank you for your comment!
No mater how SIU protrays Khuns feelings (either platonic or romantic) its safe to say that the author knows he made it obsessive. All I want to know is how will this play off when we get to his family arc. PS: While im not a full blown KXB shipper id rather have it over the implication that Khun might have/had feelings for his LITERAL sister (and yes, theres no step to save it).
SIU just reaaaally likes blurring the lines between platonic and romantic feelings. He’s done with with Rachel and Bam, and Khun and Maria, and Khun and Bam.
"While im not a full blown KXB shipper id rather have it over the implication that Khun might have/had feelings for his LITERAL sister (and yes, theres no step to save it" Fascinating. I think both.
Very cute picture! Nice art! Khun and Bam are super fun and awesome in the show. Haven't read the original work yet, so I don't have the whole picture... Makes for fun fanfics though. Can't wait for season 2 to air so I can see more of these amazing characters!
Thank you! I didn't really get into the fandom space and I still thought 👀👀👀 like for real there's just so many lines especially panning over to Bam is just feels way more than just hey this my bestie 🤌 It also kind of makes me sad that people hate so bad on the ship and the people who do ship. I don't mind any ships (as long it's not illegal) I just think if someone's like forcing a ship down your throat then I can see why being mean is warranted. I kind of hated how some people claim that all khunbam shippers just like BL or fujishis (however you spell it, I don't really remember the insults much because it's been a long time since then and I also haven't been active in the servers since 2018/2019) It just makes me upset because not everyone is like that! I like straight ships too and it makes me disappointed and sad that literally everyone is seen like that and that all the sudden your opinion doesn't matter because you like xyz. TDLR; I'm ok with ships in general as long as nobody is being rude/shoving it down your throat and that the ship itself is legal. I don't mind people not liking the ship, but hating on any person who does like the ship is a little too much.
Hey, thanks for the comment! Yeah, it feels like the picture non-khunbam shippers have of the ones that ship is generalized. It’s okay to be uncomfortable or not like the ship but don’t take it out on someone who’s just having some fun, is what I’d say.
@@cheersoli6746 Thanks for the video in the first place! I knew about all the specific parts where khun be saying funnee lines but I don't think I seen anyone (personally) hit the nail on the head about it how you said "the way khun sees bam is just not normal" by the way I'm a follower of your art on tumblr from like 2017/2018, I think I follow your insta too (I'm not sure, don't remember my follows well) and I love your funny vines of TOG characters and art! just thought I should mention :)
@@fluffycaramel3159 Yeah, I mean… I mostly made this video cuz I have seen comments on Reddit or other sites that speculate that Khun is only obsessed with Bam because “SIU is trying to please the shippers”, when… he’s been like that since way before there was an anime or the ToG fandom was big. That sort of comment is why I excluded any evidence from S3 or the anime in my video. Aww, thank you for the support ^^ 2018 was when I started reading ToG, so wow that is a LONG time hahaha
@@cheersoli6746 Yeah I seen that a lot too, and they try to point out and get mad over SIU's official merch literally having a khun x bam sticker. It quite literally, says, KHUN X BAM on the sticker. sometimes I wonder if he actually is just supportive or bi/gay/whatever himself and sees people hating and he feels sad or disappointed. Like imagine this being your intention from the very beginning and just see an absolute war over it.
Ah! I’m so glad to have found this video 😊 I agree I can see why others would ship them (I mean look at the webtoon lol) as much as I would love it to be end game I’m also fine if they’re not. Also! Your art for Khunbam is so fricking cutee ❤
Putting shipping aside, when I looked at only the webtoon I felt S.I.U. may want the readers, to compare Khun's friendship and obsession with Bam, with Bam's friendship and obsession with Rachel. If you take a closer look at the two different friendships you can start to see how Khun's and Bam's friendship is a lot healthier than his with Rachel. for example, Rachel tells Bam never to betray someone, especially a girl. It's bad and there will be consequences. (the worlds ceiling will fall on him if he do's.) Good advice as betrayal over all is a bad thing. (there are nuances to everything. like is betrayal bad if you are betraying someone to stop them from harming another or themselves. that is what I mean by nuanced. ) From what we have been shown she did teach him how to be a good person and to rely on her. unfortunately, it looks like she also did it for her (Rachel) benefit. there seemed to be a lot of her teaching that also made Bam see Rachel as a perfect person. And his whole world. without her there is nothing. She is literally the only person he has met, for the 1st part of his life. She took on the part of mother, friend, sister, and teacher. and there was no one else to give him different information. no one to tell him, you have choices. You get to choose how you live your life. his time with Rachel in the cave gives me vibes of something like Stockholm syndrome. Khun on the other hand explains the world to bam both the good, the bad, and the nuances. He allows Bam to be Bam. He shows Bam he has choices and that Bam needs to make those choices for himself. And then Khun stands by Bam when he makes his choices good and bad. Bam also sees Khun as a friend and truly cares about him as an individual. and from what we have seen of Khuns back story that could be a first for him. I also get the feeling Khun thought he had found a truly good person in Maria the girl he helped over his sister to become a princess of Zahard. only to find out she was using him and was not a good person at all. Then Khun finds the exact person (as in being a good person.) in a death match, after losing his family. Khun and Bam both have qualities the other needs in their life and they both care deeply about the other. and their relationship is one of the healthier, keeper and more caring than most relationships people see in the real world or in fiction. and I am not just talking about a romantic relationship. They have an overall healthier relationship in all aspects of the ward. whether that be a platonic love, a familiar love, or a romantic love. (though I have not seen a lot that points to romantic love for the two while reading, the webtoon. but that could just be me.) however, I can completely see why people would ship them as a romantic couple. Because they have a platonic one. when it comes to ships for this fandom. I love the Bam/Khun ship. But I also enjoy Bam/Androssi, there is just something about those two I like a lot. and though I have never seen his ship anywhere I think Khun/Hwa Ryun.... just saying his brain and her foresight and their love for Bam. Sorry this got way too long as I started thinking and typing based on your video, I would cut it down but it is all food for thought. thank you for posting the video.
I'm fujoshi alway through....I like shipping but it simple true that if no true canon proof. Then all up to what a fan personally choice how they interpret the character action/behavior and nothing more. I pretty much agreed with you. I do think khun obsession come from his family trauma, with sio setup from beginning. I say real friendship grew over time because this a world does everything set people against each other. So it's hard for people change oppression they face from those in power. I feel both khun, bam, and all other character play large theme wanting social relationship, love, and trust. I also feel khun and bam are do not know how to from a health relationship with others. No matter how plantonic it is. Also there level fanservice maybe in there, as lot writer tend to do without actually making it the real deal. But I will say out all the suppose not real gay ship i send in fiction. This been really heavy over all. From bam side it pretty much innocent, but lot scene with khun. That give me whiplash.
wow i came here too late. I think this is fascinating from the hxh inspiration perspective - although killua loves gon nobody 'needs' it to be a ship because they are children. hxh feel a lot more like it has a clear grasp on it's leads' relationship. khunbaam feels similar (now that I write it out, i can't quite place why) but it feels much flatter - the things they say and do fit their ages better, but their relationship seems the same. while Baam is familiar enough with romance to soft-reject the girls around him, from a romantic perspective he seems completely neutral to khun (as if he doesn't know that's an option) I think this weird vibe comes down to SIU's 'I don't want to write that kind of story' attitude to both Khun and female love interests, although how he treats them differently is very interesting.
@@purplelord8531 eh, you’re never late.
