Oh my word, thank you so much for this! Matching patterned fabric is the bane of my life because of working blind almost to try and match up the patterns. 👍👍
Omg so simple , I've been trying to do this for past three hours and this technique is excellent can't believe I didn't think of it. Thank you sooooooo much, will start all over again. 👍👍👍🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Nice tip ladies! I have a couple of other tips. (1) Most of the draperies I sew are 10+ feet high, so ironing webbing to match the pattern isn't a good option. I use a 1/8" double sided cold tape to achieve the same thing as your iron on webbing. The tape allows me to reposition if needle, while still being tacky enough to hold 10+ feet panels together while handling them when sewing. (2) For those of you viewing this the step at the end of cutting off the salvage is an important one. I've also been forced to cut off the selvage before doing the pattern matching on a looser weaved fabric; this is because the selvage draws up the seam enough to make it several inches shorter than the height of the panel. In order to get everything to line up the selvage has to be removed. In this case I simple serge off the selvage using a narrow 3 thread overlock stitch. Since the panels are so long I draw a thin black line to follow as my cutting line when serging. This makes it much easier when you are serging many feet of fabric. ;) This leaves me just enough room to pattern match and my stitch line is usually just inside the serged edge.
Love this! Having trouble on most recent project though because the salvage edges match up to each other exactly at the edges. Hoping for some advice, please . . . and thank you!
I just bought the pattern shown, and this is very helpful! Thanks!

Great video. Just what I need to match up two pieces to make a king size quilt. Thanks.

Not ever hear of double sided cold tape, could you tell me what that is?
Mary, go to www.sailrite.com and search for basting tape. You will find it there.
I sew long panels as well, so I know what you mean. Sailrite is awesome! Their detailed, step-by-step videos are eye-opening.
This is exactly what I needed to see. Thank you!! Starting my first valances tomorrow and the pattern matching was giving me anxiety.
