  • In this video, we did a short hike on the Twin Creeks trail in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and hiked to the place called the House of Fairies which is a hidden gem in the Park. We also hiked on a new trail called Painter Creek Trail.
Here’s more information on the history of the Twin Creeks area:

Enjoyed the video. I am from east Tn but now live in Nashville. This makes me miss home. Recommend also visiting the Appalachian Trail. I hiked a segment between I-26 TN/NC line back to Erwin. About 30 miles I guess. But any part of that is beautiful. Here in Nashville, come visit Radnor lake. Nice short hike. Also, Bays Mountain lake trail in Kingsport. You would love it. Enjoy summer!!

I was there yesterday and couldn't find it . A park worker had no clue when I asked about fairy house . Can some draw a map on how to get there . I read follow the creek up about 40 yards while creek splits into 3 section. I went through the double door barn up about 50 or 60 yards and found a few old walls.

I've been vacationing in the Smokies since I was a little girl and I have seen a few bears in my day but when I was younger we did the more touristy things....& now I wanna hike.
Really tired of the city and I want nothing more than a quiet vacation in the mountains. This trail sounds right up my alley 😏 but I'm kinda worried.
The rule of my life is kind of like, "whatever can go wrong, will go wrong as long as I'm there". 😬
I grew up in the country and I know how to not be stupid and make lots of noise... but I feel a little discouraged with the recent bear activity in the last few years.
I don't own any guns or bear spray.
I would never shoot a bear anyway, but I am thinking about bear spray although I've heard it doesn't always stop them. Do you think this is a necessity and if so is it terribly expensive? 🤔
still got a few weeks before I'll be up in the mountains but I'm positive they'll still be fattening up & causing mischief during that time 🐻🐻🐻
(Also... does anyone know why the hell this is the only bear emoji...I need answers) 😌
PPS....I can't believe that deer let you get so close 🍃🍂🍃🍂 that was awesome.

To give you a little perspective, I have hiked 1,000 of miles in the Smokies and I have seen probably around 30 bears. Every single bear was running away in some fashion. You will hear about bears huffing and what is known as "bluff charging" but it is incredibly rare for a bear to ever "attack" another person. In fact, I'm not sure if there's ever been an actual "attack" - a couple of times a bear has been found near a body of a person but bears are scavengers so that could be why. My point being is you can carry bear spray to help you feel calmer but in 5 years I've never ever needed to use it. I think it is better to proceed on the side of caution and carry something "just in case" but be sure you know how to use it. If it's windy, the spray is pretty much useless. Better to just hike singing or talking occasionally so you don't surprise a bear BUT mainly if you do see one just slowly back up without turning around and if the bears seems to try to approach you, just wave your arms in the air and make loud strong noises to show you are "larger" and scarier. I hope this helps but don't ever let the fear of bears be a reason not to hike. NEVER approach a bear for a photo and always try to create distance but having respect for them goes a lot further than fear. :-) . Here's a link to more info on bear safety by the NP: www.nps.gov/grsm/learn/nature/black-bears.htm

@@HikingwithBraids oh yeah that's why I said I'm from the country and I would never ever approach a bear the way some of these idiots do.
There have been a few attacks in the Smoky Mountains and to be honest with you...1 lady who probably shouldn't be alive considering what she went through.
She was actually on the show " I shouldn't be alive" and a bear did kill her young daughter. .... there are a few other cases but I could hardly believe it either. 😔
I've actually seen a few bears over the years as well.
I only noticed the mom-to-be protectively behind her Cubs in any instances.
I still remember when I was very young and my first time in the Smoky Mountains... when the Bears were captively held in the bottom of those concrete pits. SMH
I do think you've given me some insight to whether or not I should be scared.... I really do want to enjoy the natural part of these majestic mountains. My favorite place on Earth 😊

@@HikingwithBraids it was in Chilhowee Mountain.... the one I'm speaking of.
A mother and her two children were mauled but the little girl did not survive.
As a matter of fact I'm not able to find the old videos but they're still articles on this incident, as its baffling as
To why the other people in the trail did not help her.
That's not the only report of attacks from bears in the Smoky Mountains.
I understand there's records of bears attacking whenever they are provoked, but allegedly this was an unprovoked attack.
I'm not here to argue with you or anything...I was just trying to ask a question.
