    This song is about drug addiction and how it ends controlling your life until you are done. The instrumental side of the song is divided in three mayor sections, the first one from start until before the solo, is about the urgency and anxiety of getting drugged, the middle part with the solo and armonic stuff is the extasis after you have consumed your dose, the last part after the first solo when it gets to the second one represents the desperation of the effects ending and returning to reality with anger and anxiety.

    This is Metallica at their absolute peak. Their arrangements and compositional skills were influenced very heavily by the bassist’s love of classical music. If you imagine the guitars being replaced by the string section of an orchestra, the classical music vibe will jump through the speakers at you. Absolutely genius album. RIP to the great Cliff Burton, the band has never been the same without your influence on the bass and in the writing room.

    Welcome to the Metallica journey! Master of Puppets is about addiction. Lead singer James Hetfield: “deals pretty much with drugs. How things get switched around, instead of you controlling what you're taking and doing its drugs controlling you." It's worth to listen for the lyrics again with this context. Some powerful stuff. As for requests, anything from Master of Puppets album (Disposable Heroes, Welcome Home Sanitarium). You can't go wrong, it's a masterpiece and viewers will subscribe and come back. You have opened the door to the Metallica Army. Best of luck in your reactions!

    Most metal music songs are longer than the standard pop type songs. However metallica is known for long songs and long intros. The album master of muppets is the first metal album placed in the library of congress for its musical and cultural impact. The entire album is spectacular from start to finish. And yes they play these long songs live. They are known for their live shows. I’ve seen them many times live and it’s better than a recording always.

    This song is split into three parts. The beginning is the craving for the drug. The melodic piece is the high and the build up to the end is the return of the cravings. The song was written to mimic addiction, and the lyrics represent that as well I’ve been Metallica fan since they arrived on the scene 40 years ago.

  • @scubadoo7951
    @scubadoo7951 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The lyrics are pretty easy to catch. And, "Chop your breakfast on a mirror," is a dead giveaway. You two probably just didn't know to look, because most people think metal is just noise. The hidden gem is how they used the instruments to mimic the ups and downs of addiction. Once you know this, and you can imagine each part as a separate phase of the addict's experience, you'll have a whole new appreciation of the song. And, you'll be able to feel the lead singer's pain.

    Heavy metal songs are normally longer than the 2 minute songs that you get from other genres. Rime of the ancient mariner from Iron Maiden, for example, is about 13 minutes long. Which is based on the poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, writtem in 1798. I think that was their longest track, until very recently. You should really also react to some Iron Maiden, most people start off with their song Hallowed be thy name. Which is about an inmate on Death Row. Most of Iron Maidens' tracks are like history lessons as well, which is cool.

    As far as Metallica goes, I quite like the studio version of Fade to Black; Disposable Heroes is a great song from the same album as Master of Puppets; One is very good, or To Live Is To Die (a tribute to their late bass player)... there are many more songs, but these are the ones that stuck with me the most.

    Yes, they gotta do it live. Indeed. Which is how they sell out arenas 30 years later :)

    The quiet part is when the drug addict gets his fix and feels better for a bit. Then the music slowly builds and builds as the drug addect gets more and more desperate. He gets so strung out that he starts asking the drugs he's addicted to why things didn't turn out as great as he thought/was promised they would. Finally it gets so bad that he yells "FIX ME!" as he needs a fix BAD. The drug/master just goes on to tell him how he's screwed and it actually laughs in his face at the end of the song. This is the perfect anti-drug addiction control song. Metallica rules!

    Welcome to the world of metal
    For more modern stuff I'd recommend giving a listen to Sabaton, The Hu (not a typo) or Bloodywood

    It’s about drug addiction. Oh and James voice is that good! When you hear them play live performances during this time he sounds very good 👍

    I've invented a new game. Search for metallica Master of Puppets reaction videos on TH-cam. Then before it starts try to guess which people have snorted cocaine. Place a bet on each person in the video. Then press play. You will know it immediately when the lyrics "chop your breakfast on a mirror" comes up in the video. Their reaction to those lyrics will be obvious. Plus you get to listen to Master of Puppets over and over again.

    High school, 1988, senior year. It was gym class, and we were in pairs, playing golf, using the school grounds as a golf course. I had my good ole' 1980's radio/cassette player strapped to my back, and BLASTED the entire Master of Puppets album throughout the period, ripping up the sod like a madman! Classrooms were nearby, and students were looking out the windows at me like I was on drugs! I think the teacher did too. Good times!! Thank you, Metallica, and thank you 2 for playing and experiencing this classic with us viewers, I'm gonna check out more of your stuff!!!

    For whom the bell tolls, Orion, small hours, the four horsemen, all of these are great songs by Metallica but fade to black and one are among their best

    Like you, I am not a metal fan, but this is really good. I love the switch in tempo. Like what someone on here said, very euphoric, when compared to the rest of the song. Powerful lyrics. I love how you put them in within the album cover! Clever!

    Great reaction. I highly recommend 'One' by Metallica as your next Metallica reaction. I won't say much, except some people say not to do the music video, but I personally think the music video adds a lot of emotion to the song, and is a great one to react to.
    You'll find that Metallica has some really good lyrics, in terms of message. They are very straight forward, which can be a bit shocking to people, considering the actual topics they dive into, but they are truly amazing. They are so good at setting a mood with their instruments, vocals, and lyrics.

      The music video helps to understand the story much more but its way too much over the music sometimes and it doesnt fit at all. One big example is all of that speaking scene on top of the Last Solo. Annoying.

    • @ktgo4424
      @ktgo4424 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@felipegiraldo8100 I understand what you're saying. I obviously know the song, so I jam along with it, and those scenes only add to the song, and doesn't detract from it. What I like is it creates a genuine conflict for the watcher. You're left with trying to decide if you hate the video because it makes you uncomfortable, or if you love it because the song is amazing. For me, that makes One one of the most interesting and unique reaction videos.

      @@ktgo4424 I respect what your saying, but for me, SOMETIMES, ruins the spot when im focused on listenting, not all time. As a first time whatching its good, but after that i dont think its neccesary to listen to the Music Video. The studio somg itself holds really well and better on the second part. Just as you said, good for the reaction, bad for repeated listening.
