Hello friends,
welcome back to Swiftlessons for another lead guitar tutorial. In today's session I'll be breaking down a routine that will hopefully shed some light on Jimi Hendrix's unique approach to combining rhythm and lead elements through the use of pentatonic double stops. We'll begin by reviewing four pentatonic positions, before apply them to licks over a standard 1.6.4.5 pop chord progression. Let's get started!

These are all licks I played 50 years ago over a single tonal center but didn't know about playing over different chords. This is the link I was missing. Thanks! Forever indebted!
Thank you. I really like the way that you take the pentatonic scales and apply a real-world usage to them. Makes them feel a lot more in context.

Thanks for the speedy comment, glad you’re enjoying these licks!
@@swiftlessons thank you for your time. Really one of the best I found on TH-cam about these basic soulful Hendrix style licks.cheers.
That was a real breakthrough, just by reaching C/Am I could create my own convincing music from prior ability of the minor scale....sorry I haven't subscribed to your patreon yet, but I intend to when term ends this summer.
Love it
This is such a great lesson. It took me a minute to figure out the timing. Did Hendrix play a lot in 3?
I download this video,,,love u dude
Great lesson Rob, really fantastic. I wish you used SOUNDSLICE. I find GUITAR PRO quite annoying and difficult. Your lessons are excellent. Always fills me with joy and awesome guitar licks. Thank you
I'm gonna play this on my acoustic. Because yes

just using this to go back later on
This is a great lesson. I know the 5 positions major and minor in any key but being able to change positions/key for each chord? Very nice!
Hendrix used to do that all the time - a different scale for each chord. It's not easy... If you stick with it you end up with tons of useful melodic riffs for every commonly used major and minor chord.
Dang. Flippin everyone off at 2:40
Thanks for this, what strat you using there?
Hey Rob, a 90s alternative song lesson would be amazing. Just sayin' :)
Do ye do a backing trax to play it too seeing as you give A1 lesson deluxe
Hey Robb! Great content as always! Could you possibly break down some of Robert Crays stuff? There isn't many tutorials on him
Robert Cray is awesome! Won't be coming home lesson please
@@toddknaster9731 I'm really hooked on Great big old house and I'm done crying
Id never heard of him before, found on spotify because of your comment, wow hes good
What is the average time to get this down? I'm on my 3rd sit down and have progressed to having it down on the 3rd day going over the progression 2 to 3 x per day 20 min sessions. one more day day 4 two 20 min sessions I'll have it down..this is fun I have had a great time thank you "King of the Break Down"...Roland J Gutierrez from Magdalena New Mexico USA 🇺🇸 😀...
What pick ups do you have in the Strat? Also, you using a Fender Reverb Amp?
👍🏻👍🏻

多分すごくわかりやすい動画だと思う、めっちゃ日本語で観たいなー!
Is it just the camera angle or do you have giant Paul Gilbert fingers? I'm jealous of the pinky
They’re good sized hands but I think the camera definitely makes them look bigger haha
Will the pain in my wrist caused by Lick 1 go eventually??

Am I wrong here but is your first lick not based on the C major scale ( Ionion) instead of a pentatonic? I dont think that f note is part of the C pentatonic major. I could be wrong of course. I'm just now starting to get the hang of the pentatonic scale across the whole neck and doing it in different keys. And I don't really know the modes that well yet. Can you clarify?
No you’re right! The major pentatonic doesn’t include the forth interval, so technically it’s the major scale, not pentatonic. Good work!
@@swiftlessons Thanks for replying. I enjoy your lessons and I've learned a lot. If you could do a lesson on Ray Charles-You don't know me- a nice jazzy type version that would be great.

This is a great break down but more wrist action with some muting would give it a more percussive sound and definitely be more Hendrix-y. Loved it nonetheless. Cheers
Звук бомба!!!
Little reminder. The major pentatonic is the classic bass line to "My Girl" by the Temptations.
How on earth does one play the F MAJOR PENTATONIC SCALE ---IN THE G " POSITION ?---2 : 45. --/?

Thank you for breaking this down in an easy to learn format. The other videos the guys talk too much and make everything seem super complicated with too much technical theory.
Over 130000 views..
There must be thousands of smiling guitarist
Using this opus over the turn around..
4 bars of hendrix as tastefully as it gets
Is the 6 chord always minor ?
Deeken Wheeler always
Dutch band The Tielman Brothers played like Hendrix way back in the late 1950’s.
Check it out on TH-cam. Song Rollin’ Rock.
Just watched this one. Knocked my socks off! I have to go lie down now.

@@LostSpringBand but they are more like scotty moore oriented than hendirx honestly
@@LostSpringBand It didn't really sound very Hendrix to me but who matters! The point is that band really rocked it! I wasn't expecting that energy and flow, they made me trip!
You are in e flat tunning ?
Ganglion cyst surgery?
Nah, got in a tussle.
Everyone either tries playing like John Petrucci or Hendrix nowadays
Things definitely come in waves, neo-soul and micro-bending are super hip right now.
You'd be better off using on -screen TABS to show all these weird major scales in un-orthodox positions --this lesson is certainly NOT for beginners !
Man I'm sorry but it just don't sound right to me to try and explain or teach genius.
