    Great video John.
The 25 and later Safrane were unusual being a hatchback in the executive sector but for me were far more interesting designs than the traditional German saloons.
In fact I had a facelift Laguna 2 Privilege from 2006 to 2013 and I always felt it punched above its weight being cheeper than a 3 series BMW but closer in size and equipment to a 5 series.

John, great video, I remember these very well. The leasing company I worked for had a food company client and many of the sales team took these as they were well priced but gave the space from the segment above. However, almost every car had a speedo change and reconciling the mileages was a nightmare with some having several. Finally, when drivers were asking for a price to buy the car we gave them a better price than we normally would simply so we wouldn't have to sell it. For my part I do like the design, particularly the pre-facelift and would love to see one close up again.

I think they're lovely but there is a reason phase 2 cars are more common than Phase 1........ and even phase 2 cars are thin on the ground. Rust seems to be their biggest problem as they age

Very informative John, I’m learning all the time. I love the occasional in-depth history of your chosen car. Keep them coming.

Hi John, I think 'plagued by electrical issues' is a bit harsh. Problems were confined to the instrument cluster where the fuel gauge and more often the speedometer would fail. The rest of the electrics like windows, locks etc. gave very little trouble. Overall they were a very reliable car and much much better than the rubbish R21 that was released a year or so later.

I don't know, Renault CEO at the time found them so bad he went public with his complaints. The Phase 2 R25 was far better but Phase 1 cars had multiple issues.

I had three R25s they were great cruisers and pretty good on reliability too. A few electrical problems but nothing catastrophic. Rattling suspension on all of them over bumps was annoying though ...

Having owned a R20Ts Mk11 and three Renault 25s all GTX spec currently a R25 GTX 3 speed imported specifically to Australia for the 1988 Sydney international motor show I can say the R 20 was a much better built motor, body, interior and finish quality the 20 was far superior.
Having said that my 25 is a wonderfull if not uneventfull quality drive compared to modern day autos. I
